Cover Gaining Advice

I have read a couple of post on roster advice and even a few beginner guides for building a solid roster from the transition stages of 1* > 2* and even 2* > 3* but what I want to know is there any info somebody could share on the best way to obtain individual covers for a specific character, or even the average time it takes to get 13 covers for a 3 star. Is it best to save hero points? Or try my luck at a 10 pack cover draw featuring a specific character? I understand after reading most posts that this will probably all be personal preference as the draw percentage for a specific character are rather low. But what works for the mass users of this game because building hero points (over 1250-1500) for one cover takes forever and doesn't seem very strategic in the long run.

Patience, to be honest, is best. If you're in the 1* -> 2* transition phase, the covers will come surprisingly quickly, particularly via random PvP match reward drops. I wouldn't spend HP on 2* covers.
If you're in the 2* -> 3* transition phase, my suggestion wouldn't be to focus on a particular character, unless you're prepared to spend a fair amount of HP purchasing covers. My strategy was to try and place reasonably in PvE, and let the covers fall where they may. Between the PvE rewards and random token drops, I ended up with usable characters. In retrospect, all of my usable transitioning 3*s were kickstarted by top ten PvE wins.
I'd recommend against a 10 pack cover purchase. By all mean, play to a Season score of 4000 to get the free ten pack there, but you're likely to pull only one or two 3* covers from a ten pack, and maybe none at all, and your odds of picking up useful covers, given the number of 3*s in the game, are pretty low. Ten packs are possibly useful if you're transitioning from 1* -> 2*, since you'll be able to use the 2*s, but they're really expensive, and you're far better off saving the HP for roster slots, or cover purchases.
My general advice when it comes to purchasing covers, is to only spend the HP on purchasing a fourth or fifth cover of a 3* where it really matters, and will make a significant impact on your ability to perform in PvP (which is where the majority of your 3* covers will eventually come from). An example would be purchasing a fifth yellow 3* Thor cover.0 -
Thanks that info help I already have two fully maxed teams of 2* characters and I'm.currently working on gaining useful three star covers. Right now I have close to 7 covers a piece for blade and R&G and they are solid so far I just need more ideally I would like to start gaining more covers for those two Hulk, Thor, Daken and Lazy Cap but I'll have a long way to go with only one c over for each of them. Smh. Thanks for the reply.0

In which case, the only reliable way of gaining covers for (in your instance) Blade, and Rocket & Groot is via PvP. If you have two maxed 2* teams, a top 100 PvP placement in PvPs featuring them as rewards is certainly feasible, and it's also much cheaper to drop a 3 hour shield, than buy covers or tokens. My transition wasn't all that dissimilar, I had 8 or 9 covered 3*s, and topped them up via top 100 PvP placements.0 -
The average time it takes for a new player to get 13 covers without purchasing these covers?
8+ months easily.0 -
8+ Months!! Wow. Ok well now I don't feel so bad patients is the key here. I'm so ready to improve my roster. I grow tired of getting stone-walled 500-600 into pvp by fully powered 3 and 4 Star teams when I'm only working with two teams of fully powered 2 stars. And two mid-power 3* (around level 80 and 114)0

I had my first 3* at 166 in about five months, buying no covers.
I'm currently on day 253, roughly eight months. I have 13 3* characters optimally covered, five 3*s at 166, and an X-Force at 221. I bought two covers, a final x-Force black, and a final Laken purple. The rest were earned. At one point, a few months ago, I spent $50 on hp to be able to shield jump to get some covers, but other than that, it's been free play. I could have played without it, but I figured for the time I was playing it, I may as well make a little jump to be more competitive, and give a little cash back to a company that had provided me too many hours of play.
If you play regularly and are in a helpful alliance, you will have a lot by the eight month point, and it doesn't require money.
The first two characters come so slow, but the moment you have a decent PVP team, the covers just flow in, you should be able to get more than ten 3*'s a week for the rest of your game playing days.0 -
Well unfortunately I'm not allowed to join alliances any more the developers sandbox my account and told me I was cheating which makes no sense because all I did was add my account to my iPad to redeem iTunes gift card I got for christmas so I could by hero points. So unlucky for me I can't reap all the great benefits. But I play every day only about two months in. If that. I may have my account reset and start from scratch I would hate to lose the money I have spent in the game so far this. Even if it was a Christmas gift lol0

Contact the help desk and explain yourself. They should be able to fix it if you weren't doing anything wrong.0

If you ever see LDaken covers up for grab in PvE or in PvP then really fight for it. Use shields, boosts and time to get those covers. He was easily the best 3* in the transition phase for me and he is still my top 3 most used. After I got Ldaken it was easy to climb without using health packs. He works well with everyone. Ares, OBW, any other 2* because he doesn't really synergise with anyone. Also the fact that his colors are traditionally support colors (blue and purple) he can tank colors for your weaker characters.
A cheap blue that has decent damage and lots of utility (e.g. 5 blue is easy to get enough. I like to always have it on hand and will pull the trigger to finish off a character. Like if OBW just got enough purple to do aggressive recon I will finish her off. Otherwise I may save it. Does about 2.5k damage at lvl 4 with 4 strike tiles out.)
Ldaken and Lthor lets me finish top 25 in pvp whenever I want to put time into it for 2 3* covers every pvp event. Top 5 if it isn't a killer bracket for 3 3* covers.
Also try to win Steve Roger covers, specifically red. Really helps in PvE. Also pvp. Steve Rogers and Lthor with Boosts lets you punch way above your weight whether against a high level pvp team or a hard pve/survival node.
In essence, if you see Steve Roger's Red, LThor's Yellow or Green and any Daken covers you fight to win it. Really go for it.0 -

The only issue with this at this point in time is that Daken (Classic), and Cap (Steve Rogers) are both vaulted now (as of Season XI). I would certainly agree as to their value. Patch is obviously a good climbing character, as are Rocket & Groot. Obviously their colour coverage isn't as favourable as 3* Daken's in terms of the pairings you're suggesting, but they're certainly viable alternatives.0 -
That's a shame that they are vaulted. Patch is good for climbing because of true healing but for transitioners reading, I don't suggest 5 in green for strike tiles shenanigans. It is too risky and there aren't really any 2* that have cheap powers that you can unload all at once to win the match. I guess Ares green is cheap but you need the green for Patch. Perhaps there are other 2* with cheap abilities but it isn't worth levelling them just for Patch. Best to stick with Ares, Thor, OBW, MN Mag, Storm.
I was never one of those that were all doom and gloom about the 2>3* transition but it really is tough. I still think it is worth it to spend ISO on boosts as a Mag+storm and Ares combo with boosts can definitely punch above their weight and take down 3*'s. So just keep boosting and shielding once to get top 100 at least and the covers will come. At least that is what I did and it worked for me. There may be better strategies out there.
Keep in mind I never really went for it in pve. I liked gauntlets. I got my first Ldaken purple cover in a gauntlet. But PvP is where the covers are for me. PvE last too long.
Good luck buddy.
EDIT: I've noticed I have been talking a lot about boosts. Obviously there is an opportunity cost inherent in boosts. Spend ISO now for the chance to win covers which basically comes down to sacrificing levels in a bid for covers.
Boosts has really helped me though in getting placements in PvP and you learn whether to judge if you need them, when to use them and whether it is worthwhile to use them (if you aren't going to get placed anyway)0 -
I'll add my 2 cents. I've been playing a little over 8 months and I just got 2 3* that I didn't buy (Blade and Storm). Like everyone else, I started with maxed 2* but mainly focused on PvP. I definitely wouldn't buy 10-packs, too costly, too little return. Hit 4000 points during the season and get it for free. I was fortunate enough to win 3 Thor covers and get 6 through tokens, so I bought the final 4. Best decision I ever made. I went from not finishing top 100 to always finishing top 100. My team was 3* Thor and OBW. Next was Daken. I had black and purple. The day I pulled a purple from a token, I bought the other 4. Huge difference. Those strike tiles tear teams apart. Now my favorite team is Thor, Daken. So I was getting 10 covers a season regularly but the transition is super slow. Then, I joined a top 100 alliance. The best decision ever (aside from buying Thor)!! Now, I get 10 additional covers per season and the transition goes a little faster, and I'm not even counting PvE. My advice is be patient, don't buy packs, get your hands on Thor if you can (easily the best 3* there is), and join a top 100 alliance when you clear things up with D3. Good luck!!0

getting T100 on pvp and the final progression on pve for 3*s until you have like 9 or 10 covers for a good 3* and then buy the rest. but with some notes:
do not, absolutely not, buy covers to complete a sub-par character. aim for the top ones only, always.
also do not complete a character with the wrong build. using money. so if you have a 523 lazy Thor you can get 13 covers buying three, but would actually need two more to respec to 355. this isn't really a good idea IMO.
and for last but not least, even when you met the previous requirements do not rush to buy covers if you don't have enough iso to max that character. you never know when you will end up pulling a gold from a token, sometimes even standard token. there goes 1250 gold wasted to become 1k ISO (selling it).
just imagine that by the time you got enough ISO to max it you could even get more covers on another character and could have the option to max the other one instead? for example, lazy Thor is the best option but then you collect some lazy cap covers while saving enough ISO, isn't that also a good option? Lcap is a God on pve and high tier pvp hero (maybe not top tier anymore but still very strong), so while you make the enemies harder on pve due to maxing a 3* you can also improve on both pve and pvp.0 -
I'm on day 120. I have one 3* with 12 covers, and 8 others with 9-10. I've been playing regularly in all events. I initially focused on PVE, getting a couple top finishes, usually finishing in the top 20 (getting the second 3* cover). I played PVE to farm iso, and eventually started moving up the point total to better rewards. Joining a good alliance was key. Not only did I get advice, but access to additional team rewards have helped. I'm on the bottom of my top 100 PVP alliance, but finish in the top 5 of ours alliance PVE scores. It's a trade off that some commanders are looking for which helps all of us. This has also helped me push for higher scores in PVP (550-600 is usually good enough for a top 100 finish and helps the alliance without dragging too much)
I've kept track of all the 3-4* covers I earn and on average earn 1.5 covers a day. This number has slowly crept up as my team gets stronger. I did spend an old iTunes gift card on hp to boost my roster size, but don't spend money on boosts or covers. I wish I had remembered it earlier in my career, so I could have saved a few more covers.
Daken/Wolv, OBW/Ares and Mag/Storm are my PVP bread and butter. For PVE I have all 2* characters except Bullseye and Spiderman at 94. I'm soft-capping my 3* at 103 until I have the characters with covers and the iso to grow. With all of the 2* maxed and earning an average of 11500 iso a day, it will take me about 2 weeks to earn enough iso to max a 3* from 40. I'm going with the diverse roster of evenly leveled characters to combat scaling in PVE. Levels are great for getting people to skip you in a PVP match, but how people check to see how many covers a level 94 3* opponent has? The right covers are more powerful than levels.0 -
If your account is already sandboxed, and contacting CS or Hi-Fi or any of the devs on the forum doesn't get you unsandboxed, just hack your account and buy all the covers and ISO you want. If I'm right, if you are sandboxed, you can't even get covers from PVP or PVE, and you might be relying solely on token pulls.0
