  • Though we might never know, I wonder what the cover sales of Starlord will be at the end of the event, since most of the winners will be noobs or transitioning players who have other priorities in game than Star-Lord.

Hi, your post isn't "flagged," it's just been edited a bit for general audiences. Please see forum rules #4 and 5. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss it further. Thanks.

Should we remind D3 that some of the Marvel Universe is not for all audiences ? That some of the comics have a warning for explicit contents (violence, words...) ?

That MPQ is more of an adult game than anything since you need to put money in it ? (Most of the players are in their 30s-40s)

And a piece of caricature is being edited so that it suits "General Audiences".

Daveomite has used play on words (except for lube, but I doubt a kid knows what lube is) and refined humour to make fun of the situation. I see nothing obscene or worth editing here.

Mayhaps I should remind you this is a public forum anyone can view, not a comic book or a CD with an explicit content warning on it.

And, for the record, your reference to Je Suis is in horrible taste.

EDIT: Someone mind sending mea message with what was in the "subtitle" of the title, I didn't see it before it was removed.

it was (lube not included), you can find it in the first or second answer.
  • They edited out a word that is slang for ****. Starts with a D. I think it would be an obvious censor on most public forums. I don't see the problem.

This is getting out of hand.

A publisher's forum is a PRIVATE space, run by a private business, which expects its patrons to behave in a certain manner. If a restaurant were to tell you not to swear (or kick you out for not having a shirt/shoes) it would not be an impingement on your human rights. You'd still have every right to go out there and protest, make your own restaurant, and swear as much as you want in your own private space. This is a very similar situation.

Secondly, please do not compare this so called "censorship" to Je Suis Charlie. You are by no means victims, you were not tormented by gunmen or hunted down like animals. A post was edited to fit in with what is expected of a privately run forum. That's it. To compare the two is disrespectful to the dead and wounded, their families, and the rest of society.

I don't think anyone is disputing that. For me, the issue is whether or not the post actually violated the intent of forum rules, or if the real problem is that the satirical viewpoint expressed in it were a little too true and a little too embarrassing. Sure, we all bash the game, but we've already seen that there is not unlimited tolerance of high-profile critique (just ask an ex-moderator).

It's a little painful to see such outrage wasted on something so trivial. This isn't "censorship," but here's the catch: even if it were, that's 100% absolutely ok, because "free speech" doesn't mean "I get to do whatever I want," especially in the confines of a privately owned/operated environment. If you come over to my house and scream obscenities at children, I get to throw you out, and that isn't violating any of your rights. (Not a metaphor for this, just using an example.) I don't know why people get so incensed at the word censorship on the internet, which is also super-ironic considering the majority of the world DOES IN FACT use a censored internet, while the people who are screaming about it are not.

Personally, daveomite, I think your gif is hilarious but it's ALSO pretty easy to see why it would get spoiler-tagged. David [Hi-Fi] Moore even went to the trouble of clearly noting which forum rules it obviously violates. (No, that wasn't a pun.) Please don't stop making them, though!

I don't think you'd need the lube if it truly was fitting...

The biggest problem is there are two popular beliefs of what "censorship" is. Censorship isn't walking up to someone and telling them something isn't appropriate in a certain environment, but a lot of people like to think it is. Censorship isn't your boss telling you not to talk about how hot somebody else at the work place is, but a lot of people think it is. It's simple etiquette, manners, respect - whatever you want to call it.

Censorship it taking away somebody's right to express themselves. Censorship is a regime. Censorship is totalitarianism. Censorship is the FCC vs Artist Rights. Censorship is Corporate Entity vs Fair Use. Censorship is mercilessly torturing and murdering someone for their views, as a tactic to prevent people from expressing that view in the future.

I can't fathom how anyone believes it's "censorship" in any means. His message is very available for all to see. They only thing remotely "censored" was the removal of a line that was in direct public view and references, what I'll call to be somewhat professional, sexual paraphernalia. It should be clear why that was removed.
