Roster Advice - How many 2* is enough?

So I'm setup with the following lineup and about 60k iso in the bank. No gold and about 30ish roster slots. (bought gold to avoid discarding more 3* than I already was)

94 Marvel
94 Torch
94 Magneto
94 Storm
94 Thor
79 Widow (11/13)
59 Hawkeye (13/13)
15 Daken (8/13)

As you can probably tell, I'm reluctant to level up Hawkeye and I plan to level up Widow once the last 2 purple covers finally show up. I don't have Ares or Wolverine. It's definitely a glass cannon lineup that relies very heavily on Storm combined with either Magneto or Thor or both depending on the type of event. Marvel occasionally fills a Thor-ish role. Torch is basically never used, but maybe should be a bit more as I'm probably burning a number of health packs topping up Storm/Magneto when I could just be wearing out Torch.

So...

Widow obviously a great addition. Daken vs Hawkeye vs Neither is where I get conflicted. I'm getting the feeling that I'll be slugging things out in 2* land for a very long time and I should at the very least max Daken. Thoughts?

...and please don't tell me I need to make an Ares. I've destroyed so many...

  • I've gotten by pretty well using 5 2*s that make up two teams when added with a higher level 3* or maybe a 6th 2* if you don't have a 3* at a good level.

    I have

Wolvie - ok healing to keep you going, lots of damage and strike tiles that work great with OBW

OBW - Great healing and AP theft along with added damage with Strike tile easily the best 2* in the game as you still see here with 3* line-ups and I don't plan on dumping her anytime soon. 3/5/5 is the way to go with her.

Storm - Windstorm is great for team damage and stun, and her yellow has saved my bacon alot over the months

Ms. Marvel - A bit underrated for a 2* IMHO, maybe i would have gone with someone else if the covers came that way, but I like her and use her with Hawkeye to speed up Speedshot

Hawkeye - Can be a bit of a risk with low health and CD tiles for all abilities, but again, Speedshot has saved me a ton in matches.

The others I was not getting covers for quickly enough to make me want to keep them over the 3*s that were trickling in. Part of me regrets not having Mags or Ares as I hear so much good stuff about them, but honestly, aside from a few PVE's where they were boosted and my roster was not, I have not missed them.

So I guess, in short pick the ones you like the best and fit your play style (with the exception of OBW, ALWAYS keep OBW) and make up two good teams and scrap the rest as needed to make room for 3*. 3*s come slow, but you never know which ones the Token gods will smile upon you with and give you more than the rest. (Im on day 119 and I have a nearly maxed Blade (10 covers) while others I've had longer sit with 3 or less)

Sorry, you made a mistake when tossing Ares. He's one of the best 2*s in the game.

I'm assuming that you're focusing on PvE. If so, you should keep every 2* that scale well and can carry your squad when PvE boosted. OBW, Thor, Ares, Daken, Human Torch, Wolverine, and MNMags/Storm combo all are capable of this.

OBW: best support at 2* level, even unbuffed
Thor/Ares: HP tanks, and their abilities scale really well
Wolverine/Torch: High-damage reds can carry you through tough nodes, especially if you can pick up an IM40 yellow
Daken: Surprisingly high nuke ability, true healing
MNMags+Storm: Best PvE combo at 2* level

Not sure about Ms. Marvel or Hawkeye, but my gut tells me they are worth keeping as well. I actually really like Hawkeye when boosted, when he can carry hard (though it requires some luck).

I haven't used any other 2*s, even when boosted. I was really disappointed in Captain America when he was boosted. You should start shedding them and your unused 1*s.

For me, keeping a deep 2* squad was essential to my PvE successes while transitioning. I'd definitely recommend it.

    There's basically three "major" teams;

Magento + Storm (if played right, you can beat 3* teams, also great for quick clears)
Daken + Wolverine (sustained play, lots of potential damage output)
Ares + Black Widow (great defensive team, lots of damage potential/negation, lots of room for comebacks)

Outside of that, there is just the single outlier that is Thor. He's a damage powerhouse and goes with basically anything you want him to.

Worth note is Human Torch, who plays really well with Daken, since Daken can cover Black for him and create Strike Tiles for Torch to dip into for his Black and Green abilities.

Last but not least is Hawkeye. Speed Shot is a beast, especially in combination with Thor or Magento, but he is not anywhere near mandatory. I will say, he's good for tearing apart those Hood teams, since you can focus Hood and then drop Polarity Shift => Speed Shot and put a serious dent into their damage dealer - and Wind Storm too, if you're able to bring Storm - and if not, you can put the Blue to use with Electric Arrow for a stun or Iron Hammer for board shakeup.

If I had to pick five, I would pick; Ares, Black Widow, Thor, Daken, and Human Torch.
  • - Torch is even more of a glass cannon, especially when boosted and he tanks everything.
    - Daken and Wolverine are weaker overall but great for longer play sessions and not using health packs. If you lose a battle with them, you can switch to another team for 10 mins and then prologue heal them. Daken/Thor can be a good defensive deterrent if your OBW is out of action.
    - Hawkeye: I ended up tossing him as he's just not reliable enough. If I use him with MNMags and CStorm, an early 5 can clear the necessary Purples that I need to generate Blue. He can be used with Thor, but even then, he rarely pays off. He's too random for me, but you might like his unique style.
    - Cap I am in the minority in the forums, as I think a X/5/5 2* cap is incredibly useful against goons in pve, along with OBW and MStorm.

    My main 2* teams are:
    Daken+Wolverine (sustainability, early PVP climb)
    MNMags+CStorm (glass cannons)
    OBW+Ares/Thor (well rounded team)

    Cap+OBW+MStorm(Goon PVE)

I really haven't been able to fit Captain Marvel or Torch into any of the teams, though Hawkeye and Marvel do go decently ok together. However, as AI likes to match team-ups early on, her yellow isn't as useful until mid-game.
