Excessive lightning round point losses

Lightning round point losses can seem excessive at times:
  1. Entered a 19 point battle with 211 points (iirc)
  2. Won the battle
  3. Discovered I was attacked by a single player during the battle
  4. Lost 26 points and ended up with 204 points
  5. Report said attacker only had 203 points.
How can so many points change hands when the two parties involved in battle are so close in points? Is this some edge case where the point loss algorithm has gone haywire?

Comments

  • If you have the same number of points, the battle is worth 25 points to each side. The attacker had slightly fewer points than you, so it makes sense that the battle would be worth just over 25.
  • I understand that is how the system currently works, so I suppose I should rephrase my point as follows: is such a direct exchange of points actually intended for lightning rounds?

I ask because this will greatly exaggerate fluctuations in points, making it take much longer for points to stabilize around a value that properly reflects a player's ability to win matches. While such an algorithm would be fine for the simulator or even slightly longer PvP events where the total score can accumulate into many hundreds, it can be very disruptive in lightning rounds where large number of players will have similar scores due to time constraints, and a 25 point swing could easily drop you down two or three reward tiers.

If everything is indeed working as intended, I suppose I could repost this in the suggestions forum instead.
  • If you're asking what I think you're asking, it's working as intended. Lightning Rounds are kind of weird that way; I usually aim for the 26-50 award tier when I'm actually trying in a round, and that can be such a narrow band it's impossible to hit (the difference between 25th and 51st can be 15 points sometimes).
  • Lightning round reward tiers really need an overhaul too. The rank 9-25 reward tier of 1 featured token is just plain worse than the rank 26-50 reward tier of 2 heroic tokens. Even if one is actively hunting for the featured characters, a single roll at 1% is far worse than two rolls at 0.7%. The design is just baffling.
  • Some data for point losses in the High Stakes PvP that is currently running:
    1. Started with 202 points
    2. Got attacked by player with 192 points (it is possible this is their point total after they win)
    3. Lost 6 points
    4. Retaliation is worth 27 points
The point loss algorithm in the High Stakes PvP is clearly more reasonable than that used in the lightning rounds. Why would a short lightning round use an algorithm that admits large point losses, while a longer PvP event use one with smaller point losses? This seems to indicate that there is a bug or design oversight with regard to the point loss formula in lightning rounds.
