What is a Merc and how does it work...

I'm curious what players mean, when posting looking for a "Merc" and "50k" for player to join our Alliance for PVE.
Also I was wondering how members have 25+ characters maxed (even the newly released ones)? I know the game has been around a little over a year. It seemingly hard to level them up, and most rewards seem to be the same 2*. With Gold tokens rare. I just don't see how this is possible...
I've earned every reward on all of the Squirrel Girl PVE, even bought covers and only managed to get 4 of her. In PvP it is hard to get high ranking. Forced to fight people level 120+ and up having only level 94- team. Even with 24-48+ hrs of gameplay. Despite the time and money invested (which helps somewhat). I've noticed a lot of players with 20+ characters maxed including the most recent. I've played for 6 months (somewhat new) but the instructions don't address discussions outside the game nor the terminology used by players, I.E. "Grinding" and "Merc".

I'm not sure if this is just a really incoherent post, or if the bots are getting a lot better at trying to sound human.

No idea about the paying thing (not sure what you're asking really) but a merc is someone with a high score in a given PvE/PvP who joins someone's alliance just for that event to get the placement reward and improve the alliance's ranking.

As far as people with lots of maxed heroes goes it's just a matter of being ahead of the curve. Cover packs used to be a lot more generous AND there were less heroes AND in lightning rounds you earned covers for the featured 3* hero for top placements and you would get cover packs with a guaranteed random 3* cover for a number of placements under the specific hero covers.

As far as maxing heroes out who have come out more recently its again not the hard if you already have a good roster. Take squirrel girl for example. I got 4 covers from her initial PvE (3 for me and 1 from alliance), I have 1 from the fairly easy to get 22k progression reward in the hunt and by the time the Grocket PvP is over I will have 4 more since i'll do what's needed to get top 5 and i'll have an alliance cover. So that's 9/13 covers for a hero who's been out for a week. Also the next PvP will feature her so that's one more cover for 1100 placement as long as it's not a yellow which i'll not want so not bother to get.

That leaves me 4 (or 3 if progression in her pvp is useful) left to get on her just from her initial release. The last covers will come from tokens or next time she's a PvP reward. Sometimes that comes round fairly quickly, other times more slowly. If you are hitting Lightning rounds, getting to 900+ in PvP and grinding PvE you get a LOT of tokens. Even those low draw rates eventually give covers you need.

Other ppl buy missing covers with HP of course but players from top alliances can easily do what i've outlined to get heroes covered.

Yeah, what Bonfire said. Unfortunately, you just don't understand the game yet. It is possible to have a nice roster being F2P, but money does come into play. Also timing of obtaining new characters. Stay ahead of the curve!

Punctuations. Sentences. Paragraphs. Please learn how to use them. No one knows what you are trying to ask because they have no idea what you are saying.

My WAG is that they saw a "merc needed. 50k" thread and don't understand what it means. It's not payment; it's the amount of points the alliance needs the merc to bring in order to assure a good placement.

Same thing with the two alliance thread. Jumping to conclusions. A person must leave one alliance before the can join another.

My advice: Take some time to read for a few weeks and learn. All, okay not all but more, will be clear.

They were posts that I saw on Facebook and didn't understand what they meant..

Also I thought considering this is a general discussion board that you were supposed to be able to ask questions and get advice not be insulted...

Well, that explains the repeated paragraph. If you want others to understand what you are saying, you need to put some energy into making it readable. If you don't do that, all the readers need to spend that energy trying to decipher what you meant instead and there shall be much confusion.
It probably helps to understand the subject matter before you start ranting about it. If you had just asked "hey, what is a merc?" you would probably have gotten an answer quickly.

Thank you for the explanation, I appreciate it and the lack of patronizing and rudeness on your part.

I did ask..and I was riding down a bumpy road..
It's ridiculous to be insulted and ridiculed over lack of punctuation and grammar, this isn't high school, I'm not trying to earn an "A". Possibly try comprehending "context clues", if how you entertain yourself is trolling posts and being malicious to new-comers.

You're correct that I don't understand a lot of things especially the wording and jargon that a lot of players use. Also this is only the second or third time that I've actually posted on the forum. I've only been playing about 6 months, so from time to time I do get on here and read other people's post to try to understand some of what's going on and learn new strategies. I thought it would be okay to post questions on here concerning the post that I had seen on Facebook because I didn't understand what they were talking about. I apologize for the inconvenience this has evidently caused other members. I appreciate you taking the time to respond my questions.

I wasn't trying to ask you to write a perfect prose, but simply was asking you to put in some effort into making your post readable so people can actually understand what you are trying to say and answer your question. No one is trying to troll or insult you.

Yes, this. If you don't ask a comprehensible question you can't expect a good answer. We need to understand the question before we can answer it.

  • I understand what he is saying... somehow.

In regards to your first question concerning "how can someone afford 50,000 for a merc..." you are misinterpreting what individual players (mercs)/alliance members are discussing. When an alliance says, "We need a merc for The Hunt PvE to get Top 100. We need 55k," the alliance is referring to looking for one merc that has earned 55,000 points in The Hunt PvE, and the alliance needs his score (either there is an empty roster slot in the alliance or someone in the alliance will leave the alliance to be replaced by the merc and rejoin after the alliance rewards for The Hunt PvE have been given out). The benefit for both the alliance and the individual merc is that they all get the Top 100 Alliance cover.

There is no possible way in this game to transfer your Hero Points or ISO to any other player in the game. Does this clarify it for you?

Yes, Thank you. I didn't think it WAS possible but when I read the post on FB, I was genuinely confused as I hadn't heard the term "Merc" previously. .Thank you, once again icon_e_biggrin.gif for taking the time to clarify this for me.
  • I have edited my post so as to hopefully clarify my questions. I greatly appreciate those who attempted to answer despite the repeated text and lack of punctuation, grammar, and misspellings due to using "Talk to Text" on my phone. This is the first Forum I've ever joined and first time I've posted for myself. However I have been sufficiently, rudely, and most enthusiastically "School'ed" on the use of "Talk to Text". It was nice to see although that some kindness still exists in some. Once again my "Thanks" to those who don't discourage people from joining and asking advice and/or answers to questions not covered in FAQ nor the instructions; from those who have more experience in the game.
