FaustianDeal wrote:I was in a different place when true healing was implemented. I was playing what seemed like a largely casual game; and I wasn't reliably placing all that well in PVE or PVP. True healing was a tough pill to swallow at the time because it definitely felt like they were taking away my ability to 'just play' whenever I wanted and for however long I wanted.
What True Healing drove home for me (in a way that hadn't really managed to sink in up to that point) is that this is more like an arcade game than a console game. Bringing a console-game mentality my assumption was that I would just click the 'accept' button on the "Game Over" screen and go again. (Take a beating in a match, swap over to story and heal - same thing.) True healing didn't make me a powerhouse in PVP; no one running a small Spider-Man with 2* thor and wolverine is going to be killing it in PVP - even back in those days.
But if you view it more from an 'arcade' perspective. Being met with the "Game Over" screen means if I want to keep playing then its time to drop in another quarter. Having a health pack cost 50HP semi aligns with that metaphor if you figure a Stark Salary makes 50HP translate to roughly $0.25. The metaphor fails slightly since that quarter only restores one my my characters to full health, so that makes the game more like one of those "3-quarters" games.
I want to say I have matured to the point that I recognize the value that true healing brought to the game. But I have to confess that my primary PVP team for the first 400 points in any event is Patch/Daken/Loaner -- and I do still take a goon fight in story mode if Patch/Daken are looking a little low on health. That strategy isn't guaranteeing me any placement prizes though - if I want to win something that team gets swapped out in favor of something less durable, but more high-powered.
There where many ways around true healing but they dropped the ball. they just butcher the system and cause alot of players to quit and you think that is value added. Players always try to find ways to beat the system. Like with shield hopping , choosing regenerators for long grinds, or sentry bombing before nerf, RIP. Or my fav, in super mario rpg where you can endlessly fight dry bones and one shot everyone with the lightening ability on mallow and grind for exp to give your team an advantage.
I am an adult and i don't need some stupid system knocking me off a game every 20 mins just cause they got lazy. this game is all about penalizing you for playing more. seriously what kind of model is that?0 -

I'm upvoting you not because I condone your motive, which is somewhat immature. But as someone who's had his dream crushed before, I know how it feels.
Since realising your dream will not cause hurt to anyone, so whatever.0 -

Dang I thought this would be a cake walk, all it takes is few people to like my posts in this thread (one stop shopping) and mission accomplished. Do people horde their likes their health packs? i give out likes everyday i'm on the forums like it was candy. It only gets slightly annoying when you like posts that back to back. Also, I wish they had a stat on the side--> that showed how much reputation each user granted. The only thing I can see that would hold people back was having to login (and their attitude). sometimes the "keep me logged in" button decides not to work. Also, I figured most people would have nothing to do while waiting on refresher timers on nodes.0

Your sense of humor alone could lead you very high in the reputation scale of this forum...

Won't upvote, because the absurdity of asking people for upvotes so that you can then go and downvote someone ... is not lost on me.
Won't downvote, because the absurdity of downvoting someone solely because they're asking for upvotes... is also not lost on me.
But really, you thought coming online and asking people to give you reputation was the best way to go about obtaining it? Have you... met the internet?
Getting to 25 rep can be annoying (and as someone who was mistakenly purged from the forums and had to do it twice over, I know of what I speak) but... just get involved with discussions.
Rep will come. But probably not this way.0 -
I always thought the rep system was for hiding offensive, trolling, or just plain stupid posts, and showing approval for intelligent, contributory, or informative posts. That's the way I've always used it anyway. Unless a post just made me laugh, then I'd upvote those. Of course there are those that use the rep system in a childish way. Those I just ignore, they ain't worth the time it would take to worry about them.
To answer the OP, the best way to improve your rep was already stated by others on here. Take part in discussions with polite, intelligent, interesting, humorous, well thought out replys. In time, it will come.
Quick word of advice though... holding a grudge such as this is not very healthy. Why are you still upset over some one having an opinion different from yours 6 months after the fact?0 -
808SpicyToro wrote:Also, Downvotes effectively hide comments. Therefore, I feel like downvoting someone you merely disagree with is a form of censorship. I don't think that was the intent when it was implemented.
Aye, I hear ya. This is the one case where it can be used as quasi-disciplinary. Generally speaking though, the only posts that get enough downvotes to be hidden (-5) are explicitly inflammatory. It can also be a way for users to hide spam (if we still had visible spam! ) before mods can get to it. It's definitely a multiplicative tool.
Like for me, I don't usually downvote something I just disagree with, it usually has to be someone either being rude with their argument or someone that's using the same argument over and over again (or repeating themselves endlessly) without actually adding to the conversation (essentially circular argument). I'll also downvote anything that's explicitly an attack or is simply rude or demeaning in nature.
I'll usually upvote something I agree with, especially if it's something that's not a popular opinion, because in the age of the internet, having an unpopular opinion can be rough. I'll also upvote posts I see, that even if I don't agree, if they present their argument tactfully and respectfully, because I feel like proper netiquette/manners is something to give thanks for.0 -

So if you got the ability to downvote said post, then we all upvoted it...
...HOW HARD WOULD YOU RAGE?!?!?!0 -

I never got to play before true healing or respec-ing characters, so I have no leg to stand on regarding the change, though I agree that being able to respec your characters is wonderful and I can't imagine not being able to.
I can see you have a good sense of humor, that will help in your reputation quest.
When I first started I had an opinion on the game that others didn't seem to agree with and my post was downrated... a lot. It bothered me a lot that my opinion was seemingly invalidated and I so wanted to be able to downrate the opposing opinion. But as I got closer to 25, I found that you can do more by promoting the behavior you agree with than retaliating with behavior you dislike thus becoming a change maker rather than a hypocrite.
When the magical 25 hit, I found I really didn't want to down rate anyone. Opinions are valid, even if they don't coincide with mine. An opinion is how a person feels, and nobody can tell you that isn't how you feel. I may not agree with an opinion so I will either not rate it up, or I will reply to it with my contrasting opinion and my reasons for it. I find it just as effective to leave a reputation at 0 on a post I don't agree with than to rate it down. Like another person on this thread said, I sometimes uprate comments I don't agree with because they present a valid point and I can see how they reached that point even though I don't agree with the sentiment.
I'm no veteran, but it doesn't take long to recognize names and who seems to think similar to you, as well as who seem to be polar opposites. Even though there is a "Friend and Foe" list on this forum, essentially blocking "Foe" comments, I don't recommend it as even someone that can rub you the wrong way many times can have some really good points in other areas of the game.
My goodness I have meandered in this post. Sorry about that.0 -
Update:
Mission accomplished on 02/4/15 @ 1140 PM.
Thanks for all your support in this manner. This post allowed me to get to know the people of the forum community better and had a good time doing it plus i got to learn how to post picture post some pictures. This was a welcome breath of fresh air from the suggestion and feed back forum, but back i go.
For all the people that lent their support, thank you for making my dream come true.
And to all the people that tried to down vote this post to oblivion, thank you as well because without the struggle it wouldn't be as meaningful.
Enjoy the 8hr refreshers, and have a good day0 -
I almost want to downvote you so you're stuck at 24.0

What's funny is this guy hasn't logged in since Christmas. If he comes back, he is going to find all these upvotes on a post from 6 months ago and be so confused.0 -

I'm almost tempted to make a "I need your help, too..." with the objective of making that post go green. How awesome would that be?!0
