Forumite opposition; attack, avoid, or...

When you open a node and see your opponent's name, and it's someone you recognise, what is your natural inclination?
I often see forumites at the top of leader boards, but only occasionally does one appear as a target. When it happened yesterday in SHIELD Simulator I skipped and moved on. DrStrange-616, ships that pass in the night...
Then I wondered what other people do.
(Of course, some (most) forumites have teams I probably couldn't beat anyway, and it's not worth the effort for 4 points, but that's neither here nor there.)
Edit: another option for h4n1s

The only thing I check is the points. I don't check name of opponent, nearly ever. So I can't vote.
I am a bad boy, I know...0 -
obviously its a very sensitive matter in the mpq world.. there are many postures: some will tell you that they ll hit anybody outside the alliance.. some will say that they 'll whack anyone who is worth the points.. some will set up some truce between alliances.. some will go according to past individual interactions (history of sniping being the main factor).. as far as im concerned i follow some personnal rules: never hit without warning :ex-teammate and ppl i shared bc with.. outside of this, i try to not hit ppl multiple times on my climb to avoid bad blood and let forumites i reckonize names (except the ones i cant stand) ..on the other hand, there are some rivalries with some well-know "snipers", and then its no mercy time.. hits coming back and forth until i got no iso or hp.. to be honest, its one of the best part of the game.. i will never back down from a "good ole" retal wars..0

Retaliation is always fair game. Otherwise, I'll usually try to avoid hitting a forumite unless I'm just not finding any other viable targets.0
-
I just feel really really guilty!!0
-
I don't even bother looking at names, I just hit if they're worth enough points. No honor among thieves. Then again, most forumites have teams that could decimate me, so I probably skip them without thinking because the team is too strong. Also my game id is not the same as my forum name, so you'd never know if I hit you anyway.0
-
If I notice, I'll usually hold off unless I'm in the middle of a hop and don't have time to skip through. Whether I notice depends on how much time I have to play and/or whether it's my initial surge. The more casually I'm playing, the more likely I am to pay attention.
As others said though, hit me first and I stop caring. Though I'll also usually hold that retaliation until late in the game, when I know they likely have more points than when they hit me, and are also likely shielded.0 -
Sometimes I click on a player name to see their roster to know if they are sand bagging or not, and even then, I still have no idea what the player's name is. Right now, in this thread, I have no idea who I am responding to.0
-
I really don't take much of this into account when playing PvP. The only automatic skips are my fellow alliance mates. My rule when climbing is to try and only hit each opponent once. Even when I get barraged with retaliations I don't respond because there are other targets. In the Human Torch PvP I had two of the people I hit while climbing retaliate by hitting me six and four times each. It is nothing personal it is part of the game especially in these new days of shield cool downs. You have to take the points where you find them and if they find them six times from me....ces't la guerre! If you're worth points and you come up on a node it is pretty likely I'll be pressing the "Fight!" button. As I expect the same of anyone for whom I am worth a decent amount of points.0

I usually don't notice names, click look at time/roster/points, decide if I want the fight, move on. All is fair in love and war, right?0

That's mine. Sorry any team-mates I've hit, and I mention to them with a wink when they hit me. It's a quick glance at roster and points. The only time I look at name is when I click on who attacked me, to see if I want to counter.0 -
I believe I mostly fight seed teams. I reckon that most of the fellows on here that play PVP have better rosters than I and I will likely not be matched with them anytime soon.
I seldom fight a match worth more than 30 points. I have to conserve my health packs for PVE, and I'm only climbing to 300, maybe 400.
When I finally cover some good 3* characters to where i can use them, I'll have a small shot at PVP, then I'll worry about Alliance mates, forumites, who is hopping and who isn't, etc.
Right now, seed teams have no feelings.0 -
I didn't vote, although I fall in the something else category.
I'll usually give a skip to forumites I recognize or have interacted with during my climb up to the 600's unless I'm out of skip tax because I skipped low value targets.
When I do my surge up into the 800's/900's, I'll pretty much hit anything with points other than my alliance.
After that, I usually try to queue up opponents while shielded and then break later for a hop against them (at least 30 min). I figure they reshielded by the time I hit them.
I typically don't hit someone more than once (unless I just haven't noticed), unless it's that later shield hopping stage where I can assume they are shielded.0 -
Once I'm past the 700 mark or so, I will check the shield status of people I talk to on Line. If I'm not in a rush, I will wait a few minutes after queuing people I do not know, to give them a chance to shield if they are hopping.0
-
I somewhat pay attention to names mostly to avoid hitting alliance mates. As for avoid other forumites, nah. It's all part of the game, you make hits and you take hits. If I'm worth the points to you then I certainly can't hold it against you for attacking me and I expect it to be the same the other way around.0
-
It really depends on the points, and where I am in the PVP. If I am shielded and am setting myself up for a hop and I line up someone from the forum I will wait 15min before I attack so they can be shielded. If they are not shielded at that time oh well. If it is an early climb before a lot of people shield it really depends on the points and roster they are using. If I see a 2* team for 25 points and X-force-Cmags for 25 points I will go after the 2* team and possible skip the forumite who is 3*.0
-
As most said, it usually depends on the points, but if I see a name I recognize its usually when I'm shielded and lining up battles for my hop, so I won't be hitting the person right away. Hopefully this means that when I do actually get around to attacking, they are shielded by then. I want those points, but I'd prefer to not steal them from anyone else0

This is me too. I will usually quene and if it is a forumite I will hold and save them for the end when they are most likely shielded. The added benefit is most climb pretty high, so if I wait a while until they are shielded the points have increased from their hop and the courtesy of not detracting from their point total.

When i'm first climbing i'll avoid forumites because there's plenty of targets anyway.
When i'm doing my push to my first shield i'll hit anyone not in my alliance because i'm basically trying to win matches ASAP and skipping to anyone worth over 25 and hitting them. If I slow down it's more likely ppl start hitting me so...
As for shield hopping I always try to queue targets in advance and wait a while before I attack any in a hop. That way it's pretty certain they are shielded. As a general rule I prefer to bounce of ppl's shields when hopping irrespective of who they are. Firstly it means no retal node and secondly getting hit when unshielded in a hop SUCKS. I don't feel the need to inflict that on anyone .
Having said all that I don't really check if ppl are shielded. I just assume they will be if I wait at least 30 mins after queuing them given the shield CDs.0 -
Being relatively new to the forum, I used to just hit anyone worth lots of points on the way up. Nowadays, if it's a name I recognise with a smile, I tend to skip them. Having said that, there are a fair few of you with 270 X-Force/TGT, and I mostly just cower in a corner while I hit skip in that case.
It does get tempting if you're worth more than 40 points, though.
There's some good advice here about avoiding hitting people in the middle of a hop, though. I think I'll adopt it.0
