The new update and your data rate

The new iOS update to the game is only 79MB. The game was over 200MB before. This means the rest of the data will have to come in your data plan.

This has already happened for Android users, so nothing new here. As to why d3d is doing this, the only reason I can think of is keeping the download at under 100MB, so it won't pop up a warning when a new user wants to download the game.

This, of course, will mean the existing players will have to download a lot more data while playing the game, and thus swallow the higher cost coming from the data plan. To me, the developer has sent a clear message to the long time supporters of the game: screw you and screw your data plan.

Just watch out for your data usage if you are on an iOS device.

Oooor you could just update, then right away open the app so it will download all the other assets while you are still on wi-fi. Those are not downloaded every single time, you know; that's why the first time after an update there are longer loading times.

But nah, doing so is harder than simply blaming the Devs for maliciously targeting you personally out of some bizarre, unexplained hatred.

You can't do this every single time you know. Also the way smartphones work, the app may or may not stay in memory. What you said would only work if you don't do anything else major with your phone. And god helps you if someone decides to call you and somehow your app just got shut down. What are you gonna do then, find some wi fi spot to download the game?

Not to mention the game will always crash if you are in battle, and you switch between wi fi and cellular.

    http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5888&p=108301 From last April.

Basically, it was done to get around Apple's hardcap of 100MB app download over cellular.

Also, I don't know what funky iPhone you're using, but mine saves the d/l into documents and data, not RAM. You should not have to repeat the download. The only time the game pulls more info is when they release a hotfix.

    Relax, take a chill pill.

I used to have many of the problems you describe. When I switched to a newer phone with more ram they all disappeared. Another person from my alliance experienced the same.
  • Okay, cool. I really hope that is the case. At least I hope that would be what happened on iPhone 6.

Cause when it was on my Note 2, my data rate soars like 3x. It was more than a real annoyance.

There was a glitch a couple months ago for Android, that was causing higher than normal data usage. They should have fixed it.

The problem is that the game requires persistent connection for everything you do. Check the leaderboards, use data. Finish a match, use data. Open a token, use data. If you play a lot, you can easily run half a GB a month just on that kind if thing.

I have a 2GB plan, shared with my wife's phone and parent's iPad. I monitor it every so often, but haven't had a real problem yet. As long as you do all app downloads over wifi, you should be okay.
