Holy tinykitty. 2400 progression....

Previously, the progression max rewards were at 1400. And even then they were literally unobtainable.

Now, with shields, they are actually within reach.

So in response to that, what do the devs do? They decide to raise it to 2400 to make it totally unobtainable for real this time.

It's not cool that the progression rewards are so unachievable, though, and I'd like to fix that. I expect that upcoming changes to PvP events in the next major update will both give you more options for protecting your rating and raise the average score for everybody. After I see how that plays out, I expect to revisit the progression reward thresholds and make sure the best rewards are within reach.

The only thing he fixed was us. He really fixed us.

    2400 is attainable though.

    Very much so.
  • dat grind...
  • It's achievable. You will just have to play in multiple sessions (then shield) over the course of the tournament.

o, you have to make the determination if spending 200-400+ HP in shields (and your own precious time) is worth getting that prize.
  • Man you post a lot of whiny threads and your last sentence is dumb as hell. 2400 is not all that hard to achieve anymore, plenty of people are doing it. First place in my bracket was about 2400. Progression rewards became too easy. They are not meant to be.
  • I'm going to guess the problem is you're still in an early stage of progression. You shouldn't expect to jump to 4-stars instantly. Work on your 3-stars, and soon you'll find 2400 easier.
  • Glad I got IW at 1800 yesterday. At 2400, I don't think I would have bothered.

it used to be progression was a struggle, a competition to not get hit, now its just a grind and time consuming.

so luck versus grind. either one can take longer or not.

my poor phone battery if i try for high progression, with battles being slower, my phone deded.
  • Wasn't easy for my case. By the time I hit 1200+, the opponents were getting saturated.

It was very difficult to progress ahead, because either the opponents have a score too low, which will give very little score and even provoke them to retaliate, or the enemy has a good score, but a team too strong, that even if you use boosts, will take too long and even wipe out one or two health packs.

There are no easy teams by the time you hit around the thousand, and any match can easily cost you a health pack.

It took me 3 and half hours non-stop grind to reach 1400. Can't imagine how long it would take to hit 2400.
  • 2400 isn't unreasonable for the top progression prize. I almost broke 2K this 2nd Hulk tournament with my cookie cutter Hulk/Thor/Wolverine team. And even that was done with me joining the tournament with less than 24 hours left. A full two days is plenty of time to hit that point, assuming you are willing to shield up between pushes.
  • Maybe we should all start putting in scrub teams when we shield, so others can climb then do the same. That helped me get to 1800 yesterday.

I dunno, I personally had no problems at all finding proper opponents last night in the 1200 range, sure maybe some teams were pretty ridiculous, but put that maxed spidey you got to use and quit belly aching that you actually have to grind an opponent down! :p

(last i recall you were complaining about 85/85/x wolvie/thor/x)
if you plan to hit 1400+ expect the 85/85/x teams to be the easy ones

-edit- however with all that said I REALLY wish that they open up the steam/facebook linking to the masses so that my poor nexus wont eventually die a horrible death at the hand of the rebellious battery.
  • I don't see why people compare it to before given in the past the highest progression wasn't a struggle. It's just plain impossible.

If you spent enough points on shields you'll almost certainly be able to hit 2400. If you don't spend enough then it becomes a calculated risk, which is fair given the 4 star cover is worth 2500 HP. So far I haven't spent any HP on shields other than at the end of the tournament and can hit the 1800 rewards fine. Of course that takes a lot of time but I figure I need to grind out the Iso 8s (though I ended up losing quite a lot of Iso 8 due to boosts, which is needed to keep up with the rate I was getting hit).

Finally I wouldn't expect Wolverine **** to be some kind of uber character. IW's changes made her some kind of damage prevention but damage prevention doesn't help you win game faster. The whole point is that she's a superb defensive character but she really doesn't do anything to help you win faster, which is why her defensive abilities are so strong (and still weaker than Spiderman's, though that's likely to be nerfed soon). Wolverine **** is going to be an offensive character and you shouldn't expect him to put up 15 strike tiles for 100 or anything along these lines. I don't think he's even going to be stronger than the current Wolverine ** overall (who is certain to be nerfed too).
  • @Ferret

I noticed. The previous tourney for Smash Hit, I was stuck in MMR hell. I really could not progress beyond 700. This time I tanked a little, otherwise I would never have made it to 1200.

Most of the teams in that range have a 85 wolvie and thor, along with 70+ Hulk. Not fun to fight...
  • It's easy to hit 2400. Just spend 400+ on sheilds and play at off hours no prob lol totally worth it progress rewards are great
  • How are people really achieving such high goals? I typically just hover around the 400-700 range throughout tournaments. I typically have to skip about 15 opponents then I find one actually worth fighting (25-30pts) then repeat. Once you break 1000 I'd imagine it would be a real pain to find anyone worth fighting considering 95% of the players sit well below you. 2400 is a loooong ways away if every match is worth +/- 10pts.
  • It actually becomes easier after 1k or so, because that's when you start finding a lot of opponents who are shielded and won't retaliate. If you can shield into that range late in a tournament, very few of your opponents will actually be unshielded, so you can climb with impunity.

Phant, correct me if I am wrong here. But getting to over a thousand will not just be a matter of grind or patience, it will also be a matter of luck.

It's not just a slow grind to progress. It's more like climbing a tower, the higher you go, the higher your risks.

That was my experience at least. Even as I was climbing, I kept getting attacked quite a few times. Get 25 points, lose 33, get 25 points again. And the higher you go, the more dangerous it gets. The higher your scores, the more they will drop.

Basically, we run the risk of getting attacked as we climb. The higher we go, the higher that risk.
  • You just have to time it right. If you really want the progression rewards without tanking or having an unattackable team, you should start early with a lot of small pushes and 3hr shields to wait out each wave of retaliations.
  • I find the 3 hour shield is a good way to 'get over the hump'.

Make your move into the 400-700 range. Throw up a short shield. Most of the retaliations will come and go and then you can progress again to the 900-1100 range. Throw up a day shield once you get there and then come back a full 21-24 hours later.

This will allow "the pack" to get past you and give you targets and also will allow all the straggling players who are retaliating your earlier attacks to get their shots in.
