Am I the only one who longs for the return of environmental

I actually liked the game function with those tiles (although the city tiles could've used an overhaul.
Anyone else with me?

I liked them too, though they could be a little broken - Oasis + C.Storm for example. It might be nice to have them back as team-ups; maybe goons could drop them?

I joined MPQ after they were changed to team up tiles. I like team up tiles and find them quite useful, but I'm still curious as to what environmental tiles were. What were they?

You used to collect environmental AP which depends on the map you're in, so if it looks like desert then it's the desert environment where for 25 environmental AP you get Oasis which adds 6 green tiles to the board. Note that environmental AP can be critted and have a base of 3-4 depending on who it is, for example The Punisher has a base environmental AP of 4 and 4X modifier so him matching a crit into 2 environmental is 48 AP, and make one more match and you can add 12 green tile to the board which likely wins you the game on the spot. People liked them because it allowed you to easily win the game if you use certain characters (like The Punisher), or alternatively you can fight the computer in an environment that is weak, like the city environment where for I think 40 AP you get heal every for 50 HP, so you get a free turn whenever the AI matches that while you obviously never do it. There are a couple of power that's interesting like the Arctic one that's ~90 to turn all red into blue + 3 turn stun but for the most part they're either way underpowered or way overpowered. Forest environmental had Thorned Rose which I think is 50 AP (remember Punisher crit on enviroinment is 48 AP) for 5 AP of all colors and you take 100 damage is another common one to abuse.

Only thing to add is that matching environment tiles did not deal any damage, which is why phantron says skipping turn to match environment. I've won a few matches at like 100 life cause ai decided to match environment instead of just killing me, giving me enough time to power up an ability to win the game.

They were interesting, but they were also problematic. I don't miss them even those I discovered more than one fun exploit using them.

I too liked them, but the small problems added up to too much of a problem for them to fix. The biggest was MStorm collecting them by the armful. Plus some were super powerful and some totally sucked.

They could have been fixed by limiting MStorm (which they did) and then balancing the abilities, but it proved too much for them. I do like Team-Ups as well though, so there's that.

I'd like to see them back for ever board as a default teamup. So if you don't feel like burning a good teamup, you still have something simple to do with the AP.

Environments were terrible. You were completely at the mercy of whatever map you were on, and if you were in the city the game turned into "get the AI to take the environmental AP" or "take all the environmental AP before the AI".

Team ups are fun and promote strategy and alliances. I was very happy when these were introduced.

Or they can just randomly assign you a random one for each slot you've available like the AI always gets.

I agree, they could easily reintroduce them as free teamup abilities.

I think it'd be fun if they brought it back as some kind of automatic trigger. I have no idea how exactly, but say you pick Oasis, it automatically generates a green tile occasionally. Or City means all characters regen 50HP a turn. Something like that. Then maybe if the game lasts long enough, it triggers the bigger ability. Heck, it can be new abilities all together, but something where there's an extra bit of strategy involved, like needing to bring a blue user to take full advantage of the winter background, etc...
  • Cold Snap? System Failure? Sandstorm? Of course I miss them icon_e_smile.gif I prefer them be gone though. It evens the PvP playing field. It's not fair if I fight a guy on Forest and he has to retaliate in City or Latveria.

    Trip down memory lane? http://marvelpuzzlequest.wikia.com/wiki/Environment_AP
  • I remember inquiring about it before in one of those monthly Q&A things, but it never got answered. My proposed solution (would obviously require some balancing) was to reintroduce them as something you could win on that map that would be essentially a Team-Up. So for maybe 8 TU-AP you'd get the ol' Hot Dog cart (but with some better scaling). For 30 TU-AP maybe you get one of the more severely overpowered ones (the Forest +5 AP one...or maybe that's still too powerful to have), 20 15 AP you get Desert's "turn 5 tiles green" thing.

There were some interesting and unique abilities in there, and I think there is design space available to reintroduce them in some fashion.
  • I like both environmental and teamup tiles, but i believe teamups are better for overall gameplay. They provide more consistency and balance than the environmental tiles do. Also, environmental powers helped players a lot more than the so (punisher, mstorm). I like the idea of environmental teamup and would love to see it implemented in a future update. It shouldn't be too hard to bring in as the devs already have all the powers,
Just need to change ap cost.

I like the idea of them being the "default option" if you leave a team-up / boost slot empty.

Team ups are not perfect, AI use them 95% of the time, but I would like a type of OFF button.
Personnaly, I don't use them much, say 10% of the time, but the big problem is AI still.

I never played them, I started after they were gone.

Maybe they can do a sub during an event that uses Environment tiles, so you use them for a 12 hour sub, or something. Throw some spice into a PVE sub.
  • Environmenal tiles had their fair share of issues but Team up implementation is really much worse.

Damage from all the tiles is fine but the team up use is way to micromanaging for almost everyone for a 1 time use and lose effect. Meanwhile the AI always uses the teamups when they have no business being in the fight and it causes a lot of damage. IMHO they were implemented to cause more damage against you to force more regaining and hp use. Also to balance out the neutered AI, they needed something to make sure you don't finish battles unscathed. I just love when you're about to kill one of those non-maxed 2* teams and a Rage of the Panther knocks off 2-3k from your whole team, don't you!

I still wish they implemented this with another permanent collectable TU version of abilities, perhaps they're completely different or less effect than the real abilities on alts but without the need find and equip one every time one is used.

or much worse option but better than what we have now:
Alternatively sell stacks of 3 for basic level ones for like 200 iso
  • Doing something with the environments might be fun, even if it's a simple thing like each environment gets assigned a color and gets an automatic, say, 10% boost to matches and powers on that color.
  • Enviro tiles for desert or forest made any enemy beatable with M Storm and OBW. This was more of a pain in PVP, than PVE. That is what used to make Heroics so bad because all enviros were cities. Hot Dogs? No thanks.

The only thing I really miss about enviro tile days was when storm 5 red could get rid of all of those tiles like Grocket Yellow or C Mags Red does now. Storm used to be one of the best characters in this game. Changing her ability to yellow, increasing its AP cost, and and severely limiting the tiles it destroyed essentially gave her the Sentry/Spidey nerf treatment. She went from of the best to only situationally good now.

I'll be honest nothing miffs me more when the developers overnerf characters. By which I mean, any of those changes would have made storm worse. However, making her worse was not good enough, just like Sentry and Spidey they had to make multiple changes to try and totally break her.
