I'm noticing a trend with PvP

I'll do really well on PvP for the longest time. I find opponents who are fairly simply for a while, it'll ramp up to something trickier in the last day usually maxed 3*s and such, challenging but do-able. Then within the last few hours all I get is level 200+ X-Force and probably a Thoress, maxed Hulk or something similarly insane.

So I go from quite comfortably sitting in the top 20 (I only usually want top 25 finish, I don't go for top spot or even top 10) to strugling to break top 30 if I'm lucky because all the game gives me are these level 270 X-Force users. And *maybe* a level 166 Patch/CMags combo every now and then.

And this only happens in the last few hours. Dr Doom's PvP has 7.5 hours to go for me and that's all I can find. Until then I'd been sat quite happily at around top 15.

  • The trend I'm noticing since Shield Cooldowns became a thing is that I'm now hitting the 166 wall at about the 300 point mark...

Which really sucks considering I'm a 2-3* transitioner...

I've shielded once in an event, so thought the cooldowns wouldn't effect me much, but I guess I was wrong. I'm really hoping its just a couple runs of bad slice picking, but it seems less and less likely that that is the problem as more PVPs come...

The simple reason is that the nearer the end of pvp, the more people are shielded (to protect their points). Those who are unshielded are those with max Xforce and thorina.

This explains why the later you play, the more 166/270 you see in your nodes.
  • So you're telling me people have shielded when I hit the 100-150 point mark and all I see are matches against people I have absolutely NO CHANCE of beating, is that it? Is that the reason? And here I thought it was because MPQ wants me to spend more money on covers, shields and ISO to level my characters up. icon_lol.gif

You're hitting them at the 300?! I've been getting pushback around 200-250.

I've run into that a few times as well. I found that if I just skip 2 or 3 times that the "wall" goes away and the matches get back to normal.

I've joined the Doom event today, started when it had around 12 h left and played until 100 points without problems facing 94-120s. Tonight I played with 4h left and went from 100 to 400 points fighting teams between 94 and 140, some 166 but not much. After I reached 500 points I started to see 200+.

I normally try to stay over 600 points or break 700 if I can. It's been increasingly difficult to do so lately.

How does match making work, exactly? Surely putting me up against people with level 200+ X-Force and Thoress against my level 166 team isn't realistic without some insane luck on my side?
Hey, game, just because I have every character and a few max level 3*s doesn't mean I'm capable of taking on the top 100 alliance players.

I've always hit "the wall" at around 300 points.

I played the Doom PvP today in the slice that ended at 4pm (I think it was 4, anyways, somewhere in that whereabouts) and joined in the last 45 minutes. Got 277 points to secure #19 and earning two Punisher covers, 1000 ISO, and 50 Hero Points.

My girlfriend played in the same slice, starting with a little over an hour (ten or so minutes, she said) left in the event and snagged #1 with 449 points. Worked out really nice for her because she already had five Punisher covers.

W...what? 449 points won your slice?

I got 458 in my slice and placed 194th.

Not his slice, his girlfriend's slice.
She probably is a new player so she get's put into the own little world of new players, where enemies are fluffy and 449 wins a PVP bracket.

But don't worry, she's in the vet pool now, so she won't break T50 again for 6 months.

But he said a mere 277 gave him #19. That sounds like the same bracket to me.

We were in the same slice, like I said, we both joined late, so we were lumped into a pissing pool bracket of mostly new players.

Not so hot for season score, but neither of us are in a big Alliance, so we don't really care.

I might need to try that once or twice this season, whichever event has patch covers.

I can make up the season points in other events or shield sim.
  • This is why I have never bought into the "wait last 2 hours to play PVP". It works if you are XF/thor, but for the normal transitioners the DEVS take money from but do not care about...it doesn't work.

The only point in joining late is to game a broken game and try and get into a bracket with only 50 people. 99% chance this doesn't happen and you are left trying to take 2 steps forward while getting knocked 10 back.

I've Noticed The Same Thing. I'm A 2-3 Transitioner And I Can't Get Much Further Than That Without The Luck Of An Enemy Trying And Failing To Beat My Team. Also, Depends On The Luck I Have, But For The Most Part I Can't Get Anywhere Near Top 100 To Get A Cover With Those Numbers. My Girlfriend Just Got T 100 With Less Than 200 Points.

I don't have any fulled covered/leveled 3*s, let alone an X-Force or a Thorita (and neither does my girlfriend).

That being said, this is her first #1, so yeah, that doesn't happen often. That being said, it's very rare we don't get at least one 3* cover. It usually means we needed the 2* for whatever reason (respeccing and Marvel, mostly). I've personally netted two covers 5 times in the last three months or so; Falcon, Thor, Captain America, Doc Oct, and now Punisher. She tends to do better because she has her Thor and Ares fully level and she tends to use Boosts and such more than me.

Also keep in mind, I probably only play every other PvP, so yeah.

I'm a transitioner and am getting ready to give up on PvP. I don't get top 100. Usually 125-150. I spend hundreds of ISO skipping for matches to play, spend at least 75 HP to save what points I manage and burn through health packs for no reward I can use. I'm starting to wonder why I should bother now.

Guys, you should tank. There's nothing wrong to it, we all had to tank before becoming the top dogs ourselves, roster-wise.

Could you explain for me, how to do so and the most efficient means? Is it just "go in shield sim and lose some", or do I need to lose a specific number of games...to specific opponents...etc?

Not really sure what works currently, but you should try and see what works for you. Some tank in SHIELD Sim only, some tank every PvP event. Tanking = losing to adjust your match-making ranking (MMR). Losing while shielded counts. Losing can be active (when you go and lose on purpose) or passive (when people beat your team).
