A f2p journey to 1300 points and lessons learned

  • Grain of salt and perhaps a sliver of benefit of doubt to D3 until the disappoint us. . .

Devs said they needed to measure scores to figure out how to change progression rewards. This in theory should only take 3 or 4 events with varying attractive covers/featured characters.

So although people spending 2k+ hp to get 1300+ or whatever crazy scores doesn't help this any, the number of people reaching these plateaus has dropped drastically and forces people to spend a lot MORE hp for the same reward prior to CDs

When they lower progression tiers - hopefully by 200 pts each on the high end and hopefully not removing either the hp or the token awards, people will most likely like this change a lot. The vast vast majority of people could care less about their pvp score or season score other than reaching a progression tier and finishing 1/5/25 etc. The actual points you get are all arbitrary and mean nothing beyond these thresholds and season scores so in the end shield cd shouldn't be so bad.

They still need to change CD's to be less than the actual shield length so you don't have to keep cycling through shield lengths. 8 hour and 24 hour were already a discount over 3*3 hour shields or 8*3 hour shields and that should have been all that was necessary

The thing I'm most impressed about this post is the exact account of amount of points won or lost after every hop. Did OP just take screenshots at every possible chance just to plan for this post or does he have photographic memory? icon_razz.gif

I totally understood my teams weaknesses on defense and those losses were expected. What I didn't expect was getting whacked by the same players 3 or 4 times within a hop. Even when on offense and selecting opponents there are just so few options now.

I didn't go into this expecting to spend what I did. I thought maybe it would top out at 1000 hp. With better shield management and some better value match ups it can be less.

As much time as was spent I still feel it was way less than the time I spent grinding out I think it was another blue cover when Simulator was last run.

Previous attempts at 1300 have consumed considerably less time and resources. With all the 2000+ point scores 40+ point matches were all over the place. It used to be very easy to get 80 to 120 points each hop. So once you got to 900 or 1000 points and started shield hopping you could do it with 3-5 shields and after you got any hp rewards that cost was next to nothing. The last time I attempted and reached 1300 was in First Avenger at the beginning of last season.

Several times during Unholy Outlaw I wanted to quit and cut my potential losses short. Very early on I had strong doubts about reaching my goal and as you can see I very nearly missed. So my doubts were legitimate.

I had built up a nice amount of HP and essentially treated this as an experiment. If I did miss I would've been sore but not totally devastated.
  • Props to the OP for achieving this.

As a 6 month transitioner with a couple 166s only, this sadly shows me that the top progression rewards will be out of reach for me for forever. I can neither spend the HP nor make my whole life evolve around the shield cooldown times in order to get such scores.

The most frustrating part anout it however is that devs are apparently ok with how the metagame turns out to be icon_eek.gif

My memory is **** now. I've developed a habit of taking screen shots of my play. Also a good portion of the text was just copied and pasted from dialogue on the alliance's Line chat with a little editing for tense and structure. All the details are accurate.

Your goal should just be top 100 and the key is to get into a top 100 alliance. From there you will begin to accumulate the covers, that's the one advantage newer players have over the older players is that decent alliances can basically get you 4 3* covers per week and a 4* at the end of the season
