Maybe they need to make the playing field more equal by giving absolutely everyone easy access to all the information they are currently gathering outside the game now. In other words: at any time you can tell if someone is shielded, and you can look up anyone at any time and see their current (well, as current as possible) points. I'm not a big PvP player so there's probably other stuff people talk about - just give all that information to everyone. That would reduce outside communication and level the field.

I will give D3 credit, though: shield timers is the first "don't be evil" choice I think I've seen them make - in that it almost certainly affects their bottom line in a negative way but they felt like it would really help the playerbase. Then again, maybe it doesn't affect their bottom line too much. Impossible to know. But still: this was definitely an attempt to help their players out, and that was great.

My interest in PVP is purely early progression rewards, token or HP. I play as soon as it starts to maximize the number of seed teams I can grind through. I then come back a couple hours later or day 2, get the rest of my points to hit maybe 400. From that point on, I have my progression and I start getting hit, I never retaliate, I never intended to go further, so if others can use my points, great!

Though, when I finally get to where I can actively compete in PVP for placement AND progression, I may have a different view of it, but hopefully they will have fixed the point loss problem by then.

I define sniping as purposely putting someone from the top 10 into your queue and waiting for their shield to drop and then hitting them to bring them down while bringing you up. If you get points for hitting someone while they are shielded just the same as when they aren't, then courtesy and respect dictate you do it while they are shielded. A shield indicator next to your name when in the queue would be helpful to people who wish to be courteous.

Is this topic about hurt feelings, essentially? What you define as "sniping" seems to be the game itself. I find a target and attack. I win, I gain points, the victim loses points.

Is there some other way to advance?

Can someone please explain to me how communication helps you place higher in the standings? I'm normally content to land a Top 25 spot and 2 covers, so I've never had to go all out and "snipe" or interact outside of the basic chatroom.

However, I am very curious about the technique and how collaboration helps you advance in your brackets - especially if your alliance mates might not necessarily be in your grouping.

You either get your whole alliance to join the same slice and shield hop off each other (see: Crewsaders) and/or you join a battle chat on Line which has a lot of people from a lot of alliances and use that to coordinate hops or at least prevent unshielded hits.

Thanks for the info, BG. I'll look more into it. My alliance isn't so hardcore to go this far, but I am intrigued by the strategies.

When it comes down to it, most players you attack aren't even in your bracket. It won't affect your placement one bit if they're shielded or not. There are a lot of players that realize it's better for their own score to hit someone at 1102 three times at 1102, 1130 and 1156 than to hit them at 1102, 1058 and 1020.

Now, I've always defined sniping as looking for a specific player and deliberately making sure they are unshielded to take the loss in points. This is the sort I would take personally. The vast majority of players just don't fit that description.

And I support the very valid point that retaliations overwrite prime nodes. Use it or lose it when you break shield.

Just be aware letting a node sit for a few minutes before you get going can ease someone else's frustration.

    Hey Moral!

This thread caught my attention. Just an interesting read to me, and not what I initially expected.

I took sniping as what I do...which is join pvp's late to get the covers I want with minimal effort. I've become a lazy player, the game burnt me out, so now I just try to get the covers I want at my own pace.
