Smash Hit and other PVP Tourney Questions

Hey there all,
I just want to say I really appreciate all the postings everyone does. The sharing of information on here is really great and I feel like there really is a sense of community. I know there are the top people who really take the time to help out novice players, which is super cool of you.
I've been playing for a few month, having a ton of fun.
I participated in the Hulk Smash Hit round 1. In my bracket there was a guy call crazyeyedkilla or something like that. He had like 2300 points on the last day!
I struggled to get 800. It seemed like when I won a match, I get attacked by 2 sometimes 3 people and lose 50 points. It felt like I was going 1 step forward, 3 steps back.
So I am wondering, do the people who regularly finish in the top 5 AND get all the pvp rewards along the way just go crazy playing the entire 2 days? Do you wait til the last day?
Do you just have to have a super beast team to just grind it out or a few max characters so people are less likely to attack you?
In this event I am using a 50 hulk , 69 daken and 85 wolve. I sometimes swap out to my 75 spiderman when I need heals.
I have some iso saved up, should I try getting my spidey or hulk up more to be more effective or would that just be a waste in the end?
I am eager to hear your thoughts.
Again thanks a ton!
I wouldn't mind trying to get all the pvp rewards this time around since I don't have IW yet.

To get high points it's important to identify who is shielded. You probably won't see too many shielded guys until around the 1000+ range, but you should at least pay attention to who in your bracket is shielded in case they showed up.
Unless your team is unbelievably strong, getting high points is mostly about finding the shielded guys and playing when there are few others playing (so you can get to that range in the first place). I see quite a few ordinary looking team in the high 1000s, including my own.0 -
With 800 you would have won my bracket. I finished with 1600 and the second person had 750 O.o. The key to have a good bracket is to enter at the right time, and the right time is neither at the start nor at the end of an event, but in the middle. If the event ends in the evening, enter it in the morning. If it last 3 days, enter it in its second day.
Beside that, if you get attacked a lot, look into shielding yourself for 3 hours with your lowest level characters. As a lot of people will attack you, I assume, but am not sure, that it will decrease your match making rating and give your easier opponents.
Beside, I achieved my score with a similar team to yours, 85 wolverine and 75 black widow. I felt a lot of pressure too at around 800, and then again at around 1100. I had to use two shields to get past these levels.0 -
Sometimes when you join a tournament is just as important as how much you play in it.
So, usually the hardest of the hardcore players will join the tournaments immediately and most will join in the first 24 hours. You might want to lay back and see if you can get an easier draw by doing your first match later on.
Also, if you want to break through that 800-1200 range, you need to really commit to grinding through it (which could mean 2 consecutive hours of playing). Or throw a shield up at your high water mark, wait for the retaliations to hit, then resume playing at a later time and make your march onward.
A lot of people quit trying once they reach certain levels of success. They will shield or just quit playing. You can use this to your advantage in the higher levels by attacking them continually. So, quite often the road from 1200-1600 is much easier than the one from 800-1200.
You just have to reach that 'escape velocity' and get past the pack.0 -
Last two posts touched on very key points. Good posts.
I like to save my main push usually >3 hours before the tournament is supposed to end. I feel that there are less people grinding it at this time than would be at hours. I like to be far out in first at this point and then I save one shield for the 3 hour point for 50 HP. I keep checking to see if people are catching up or not. If not, I ride it to the end. If they do, i get back in there and try to grind higher.0 -
I feel like this would be great information to put on a "How to PVP" thread in the Tips section.0

I tend to find that there are significantly more people grinding on the last day at around 3-8 hours. My current strategy is to grind 200 points and tank, and then wait until there are 11 hours left in the tournament, at which point I grind for progression rewards. I spend 150HP on shields: 1 for the 8 hour and 1 for the three hour, since I notice that the frequency of people increases dramatically when there remains less than 8 hours. This lets you prey upon all of the people who grinded during the first couple of days and are shielded, so you'll always have someone to attack for significant points.0 -
So I took everyone's advice and......
I came in 5th (1650ish) place this time, which I have rarely done AND I got all the progression awards except for the 1800 IW. I probably could have pushed at the very last to get the IW progression rewards but I had a feeling a lot of people were playing right at the end like they always do to try and place better, I didn't want to lose my ranking by getting attacked 3 times before I had a chance to finish one opponent. I did have to break shields and attack a few people or I would lose my 5th place but just didn't have enough time to do the 1800. I will probably try next time and see how it pans out.
I learned a lot more this time around. And you are correct, once you get up into the 1000's it's a little easier.
So thank you so much! I really appreciate it!0 -

Extremely good summary. Of why this arena is so much broken.0
