HP spending advice

Do not spend any HP on hulk/punisher. I'm not sure if this was always the case, but it seems like the rewards for all tournaments barring lightning rounds in the past month have all been heroes such as hulk, punisher, iron man 40, spidey, GSBW, etc. If you were to invest HP in something, go for the villains that don't have tournament rewards (mags, rags, doom, etc). Since mags is the only top tier villain and has an uncertain future, I would max out on cover slots (which you've probably already done), and just hold onto it for now.

I think this is the worst possible advice. So horrible in fact that I don't even feel the need to point out why. Everyone should already know.

Please enlighten us, Psykopathic. I simply suggested that he shouldn't spend HP on the heroes whose covers are being given out the most right now as tournament prizes: my hulk is 4/3/4 and punisher is 2/4/5 solely from tournament prizes. My 3* villains, on the other hand, barely have any covers by comparison (0/1/0 mags, 2/1 doom, etc). I guess I didn't make myself clear in my initial post: from a rarity standpoint, it makes more sense to invest in villain covers since you can only get villain covers in the lightning rounds (which are far harder than tournaments). However, none of the villains are really worth investing in right now (rags got nerfed, mags is going to get nerfed, the rest aren't as good as the top characters in the game right now), so I think you should either go for cover slots or hold onto the HP.
Lighting rounds are far more consistently available than any particular tournament. what was it, 4 rounds per villain per week?

I guess it depends on how developed OPs roster is. I've tried getting diabolicals without relevant villain covers with a 85 thor / wolvie / o widow, and while it's doable, its still really challenging to place in the top 25, and so to me grinding lightning rounds feels a lot harder and less certain than the weekly tournaments that I can always place well in.

Last week, someone placed fairly well with thor/wolv just to show it could be done. I forget the exact details (and I'm sure that's out the window in a few weeks when their nerfs go through)
