Why the Rag nerf keeps me motivated to play

  • Maybe I am taking it too hard but my desire to play this game has waned by half, if not more since it seems they are determined to nerf everyone that is good... I have not even finished a single sub bracket in the hunt ares (didnt even start Florida and not sure I even will). Did play enough of alaska to open up 240 ares to see what he looks like but I took him out before he got any moves off and not sure I want to slog thru another 8 min match... I enjoyed the game and the forumites here for a few months at least but I see myself slowly checking out with the direction the devs are taking it. Spideys heal will probably require 3 tiles min and blue ap will go up to 5 for each stun.
  • I am so happy to see so many folk being reasonable. Yes... it sucks to have your easy win nerfed... but we ALL knew Rag was broken as hell. The Deva owe it to the community as a whole to look long term at balance. It is an approach aimed at overall game health, not the interests of a single character.

You got to whoop butt and own for months. Be glad you had that. New players never will. And honestly, Rag is STILL great. He's just more in line with everything else now.

I understand the burn if you just spent cash. I felt the same when Classic Storm went... hours after I dropped a TON on her. It blows... but it happens. In any game. Refs make calls that cost championchips. Still... The game is fun. The core remains. If this is the worst our day has to offer... we are pretty blessed. ^_~

I didnt even had a Rag, but I still have to agree with what Nemek said.

I downloaded this game because actually I love playing match-3.
I dont want to end all matched within 5 rounds and I dont want to play against the same team with the same team over and over again.

I really hope this will give room to some more uncommon teams, just to keep this game interesting! :3

Ok guys, time to pull out the Hawkeye's (Classic) and roll with the punches. I'll all for making more teams viable and I've been experimenting a bit with some covers I have. Hawkeye had been really good to me since his change.
  • You're doing it wrong, you aren't supposed to accept the new status quo and adjust accordingly.

No, you're supposed to whine and cry like a baby and make stupid demands
  • Heh. I had a max Rag... still don't mind the change. We KNEW he was broken. Besides... it's a game and still fun. Fun is the part that matters to me.
  • Amen to this brilliant post and all of its supporter's!
Who the hell wants to live in a world ruled by a red tampon Rag!
    Long live MPQ!!!
  • As I said a million times before the nerf...I've had a max rags for ever and was hoping.I could.drop.him from being a neccessity. I'm glad he was nerfed because, well, it was boring to see him on every team. I do think they were a bit heavy handed though, as now he has no place on my teams unless I'm throwing up high hp as defense when I sleep unshielded.
  • With Rag being Nerf and more characters being as well in the list.
I feel that it's much better as more and more people will start using others characters - not more same old characters that's we play against.

We will tend to take notice on other characters as well - Finally i start to enjoy using higher ap to kill the game - IM40 instead of picking the same Thor / Wolve in PvE mission. I might even pushing him into my A team as well.
Punisher - instead of gg into 5/3/5, 4/4/5 - I am thinking of gg into 3/5/5 due to his strike tile and fearing of Wolve nerf as well.

As times goes by, I guess this game will definitely be more challenging and fun to play with. I can see it will slow down the game yet I can see good things coming soon.

But, I believe that completing neutering Rags is good for the long-term success of the game for the following reasons:

Your reasons are well thought out and valid... but it's missing an important point.

If this is the balanced power level for 3*, what does that imply for every other character in the game?

This logic is flawed, stars are irrelevant to balancing. Higher stars are always better investments due to higher level caps. In other words, 4 star and 3 star skills should be as good as 1 star and 2 star.

players HAD to use Ragnarok in order to be competitive
I agree that it was overdone, but now its just Thor/Wolvie. I just cycled through about 50 teams in Double Shot...and there were only a couple that were not IM40/Thor/Wolvie (and those were lower ones with either M.Storm or OBW, and were targeted immediately). I was hoping the impending nerf would result in more diversity, not less.

This is because they have yet to be nerfed. They will be nerfed along the lines of Ragnarok.

    Battles were getting too short.
I agree something had to be done to lengthen battles. The tough thing is that with the sub-standard AI the outcome is rarely in question, so the only unknown is how much damage Ill take before I win. And if I take more damage or lose more Im going to play less, in part because I hate waiting for health packs to regen or using spidey to heal.

It's only fair to those who use support/healing to prolong their game play. If you have time, I would invest in support characters, if you don't have much time for the game, invest in damage dealers. I imagine we will see an influx (like invisible women) of good support to do this.

For guys like this, just be happy you got to ride that train to its end. I'm sure you got a lot of comics out of it, even during the progression of your Rag. icon_e_wink.gif

Nemek - Thank you for this post, it is intelligent, enlightening, and well said. I would have done it myself, but you have saved me the trouble. icon_e_biggrin.gif
