"Event Ending" Question

Haven't started Prodigal Son sun yet, and the tab says "Time Left: 8 Hours 10 minutes". Now, I know the first end time ends in that time, but thats only the first of the possible end times.

If I don't join a bracket within that 8 hours, can I not participate? Or will it just show the next bracket end time after that?

Should I join before that first end time, or if i'm not really going to be able to play till a later push, can I wait till tomorrow evening? Thanks!

As long as there is an event with ending time left you can join it regardless of whether the first shard has already finished.
