Silly question regarding end times and alliance rewards

Lets say that for the current event, my alliance is most likely taking it relatively easy. One or two members, however, are not, and wish to merc themselves out. My question is, when do they have to merc themselves out by, in order to qualify for the additional alliance reward? Is it before their own personal slice ends? Or when the final slice ends? If it's the former, can they put themselves back in their old alliance before other peoples slices end, and still maintain their merc'd out alliance reward?

    It's the final end time in pvp, so I expect it's the same in pve. Similarly, sub rewards for alliances come out when the last time slice has finished the sub.

    Just to clarify (because I think I have the same question), even though an event has completely ended for someone in the first slice, that player could then merc out their score before the 5th slice ends to try and get the best reward?

    Each time slice gives out individual award as each time slice ends.
    As the final time slice ends the alliance award is given out.
    So everyone who has finished in the previous four slices can conceivably merc themselves out right up until the last time shard ends.
    At that point the alliance awards will be determined.
    As soon as the last shard ends the merc could return to their original alliance and compete with them for the Deadpool PvP alliance award.
    I wouldn't make the move back until I received my cover even though D3 says this has been fixed in one of the recent updates.
