Suggestion for tweaking "Required" Nodes in PvE

A lot of people are upset about mission pins being locked behind required characters a lot of the time. I was wondering if there was a way to resolve this "problem" while keeping everyone happy.
In most (all?) PvE events, one of the early nodes usually includes a fight where you have to use 3 specific characters. These are usually three of the featured/powered up characters for that event, and you are provided with a "loaner" version of each or you can select your own version. Often these "loaner" versions are only at a medium level, although they still benefit from the Powered Up buff. These missions are actually a really great way for players to experience how a new character plays, but the enemies are usually relatively low level and the mission is not repeatable.
My suggestion is change the required nodes to copy this format. Force the team lineup for those three nodes, but provide loaner characters for each. For these nodes, you can leave the loaners at their lowest level, and perhaps even with only a single cover. This would still give an advantage to the people that have that character, but it would give everyone a chance to experience the content.
It also lets players have some more "hands on" time with a character they might not have - which could be the incentive they need to add them to their roster - and rewards roster diversity - people with those characters are likely going to be able to make repeated attempts on that mission even after scaling kicks in.
