So far I had believed that my bracked affects both with whom I'm ranked as well as the opponents I get.

Today by sheer luck I got to the top of my bracket with 707 points. But now I find wuming7966 as possible match wh already has 857 points...Does that mean that opponents don't necessarily come from my bracket?

Getting opponents from your bracket is very rare.

Matchmaking and brackets have nothing at all to do with one another. And yes, that's something we all learn at some point icon_e_smile.gif

Correct. Your ranking bracket is determined by when you finish your first fight in the event. Your opponents are determined by your Match Making Rank, or MMR. Winning matches increases your MMR, getting beaten lowers it.

But my MMR will affect what Bracket I end up in? or is that not related either?

Unrelated. What bracket you're in is determined entirely by when you FINISH your first match.
