How do determine the strongest color?

I know the highest valued color will be the enemy team's strongest color, but how do you determine which one is the strongest color if two colors share the same highest value? Too many times I've had two enemies with the same highest value but with different colors and I can't seem to determine which one outranks the other. Thanks.

Been wondering this myself, since (to my chagrin), X-Force's black can go off to no effect if there are no such tiles on the board.
  • Check the placement of the heroes before you go into the match, I guess.
  • I believe the answer to your question is the order your opponent line up is. So for brevity I'll reference a line up as Left (L) - Middle (M) - Right (R), this is the lineup you set when you go into a match. For example in featured hero matches like the Gamorra one occuring now, Gamorra would be in the middle and you would place your characters on the L and R. Your question is who makes a tile match when two characters deal the same amount of damage? The answer is to look at the line up. The order of priority if the damage is the same goes M -> L -> R.

    Thanks Tropic!
  • What about for NPC who have the same damage value on all colors?

Not sure if i understand this question, if you're talking about Maggia/Hammer/etc guys that just lay down strike tiles then the principle is still the same. The order of priority of damage dealer goes from M -> L -> R. On a side note some patches ago they made it clear who the countdown timer is attached too.

But every single color has the same damage points. So red does 70, black does 70, etc... So which is the strongest color then?

(And can they finally add some simple logic, maybe changing the text color to the strongest one?)

For the NPCs that do the same damage across all colors, look at their abilities tab... whichever is listed first is their strongest color.
  • For clarity purposes, L-C-R only shows up properly on the boost/team up screen.

Plus, there are hidden decimals. So while all 3 stars at 166 have the same value for strongest color, a 166 and a 225 have strongest colors at 79 but they will not be tied - something else to keep in mind.
  • After the nerf to high level match damage this is considerably more complicated for PvE. For very high levels (say, 300+), based on my testing it's something like:

    If tied for level and value, the tiebreaker is 4* > 3* > 2* > 1* > center > left > right

For 1/2/3*, there are some levels where an increase in level results in NO increase in match damage, not even the decimal point. That is, it is possible to have Ares at level 300 in center and Moonstone at left at level 301, and the strongest color will be green because Moonstone gains no extra match damage for going from level 300 to 301. There is no way for a player to know this other than finding out the hard way. In this case you'd be better serve to wait until the board has both green and purple in significant numbers.

One side effect of the high level match nerf is that until they reach around level 300 or so, the strength of match damage will generally look like strictly 3* > 4* > 2* > 1* and you wouldn't even need to break down to the decimal point level to see that.
