What's up with the Empiricists and Mystique

I don't understand what's going on with the Empiricist goons in "run this town".

On the boost selection screen right before the fight it says they run greentile.pngblacktile.pngbluetile.png .

In the fight they say they are running greentile.pngpurpletile.pngbluetile.png .

And in the fight they are getting 2 of each blacktile.pngbluetile.pnggreentile.pngpurpletile.png .

So they are iso injecting using purpletile.png to hurt on the merciless crush on greentile.png while still feeding Mystique blacktile.png so she can masterstroke me to death! Is this supposed to be happening?

  • Now that I'm looking the Control goons that only run bluetile.pngpurpletile.png are also collecting all 4 colours the Empirists are. Am I loosing it or is this new?

Weirdness with the color generation of some of the ISO-8 mutant goons has been pointed out before, but these screen shots and details really help illustrate the problem. I'm going to post about this in the dev Q & A thread and link this thread.

Mutants generate off color AP. They just do. They all generate black they don't even need since the ones with black powers costs 0 blacktile.png

The color change of the power from the attack screen to in game is in fact a bug, but the color generation is afaik working as intended. If the Hood/Muscle nodes of last round are any indicator, the Shapeshift Masterstroke AP fed combo is also intentional.
  • I get that there will be synergy between a goon and a character sometimes like with Hood last time around. But for a game with no instructions and just an implied set of rules I find it weird that these goons don't follow the rest in only producing colours that match their ability.
The subjects do this so why not the controls and the empiricists? If the Devs want to have that synergy to feed Mystique blacks they should team her with a character that does demolition on black.

    This is just unfair.
  • The iso 8 brotherhood mutants are all cheaters. They'll generate AP for the color they've no ability in, like the guy without a green ability will generate green AP and the guy without black ability (not even Detonate) will generate black AP.

I guses it's somewhat made up by the fact that their abilities minus Detonate are relatively tame by goon standards.

Have the devs ever stated that this is intentional? Until they do, I think it's open for debate as a bug.

Especially with the Empiricist having his power show as different color in different places, it feels to me more like these characters had their colors changed in the design process and never got their AP generation cleaned up to fix it. Similar to how GSBW used to have the "wrong" colors for match damage. People generated fan theories for how that was intentional as well, but eventually D3 came along and normalized her colors.
  • It happens throughout all three phases. I'm sure it's intentional. Wouldn't it be designed to promote health pack purchases? Do you think it's a coincidence that the Hood update landed on the first run of the event?

It's rage inducing. I've been considering just uninstalling the game all together because of nonsense like this. This game has so much potential, and the devs keep treating it like a cash cow instead of a prize bull.

It happens in all three phases because it's inherent to the design of the Empiricists, not the event.

If the devs want to promote health pack purchases, there are far more straightforward ways to do it than to make one or two characters generate AP in a different way from all other "goon" characters. And Hood is in a ton of PvE content, so the alteration of his skills was likely to affect PvE pretty soon after his change.

I don't like the change to Hood's yellow skill, and I don't like the way some of the ISO-8 mutants generate off-color AP, but I don't think either of them is intended as a direct stab at your wallet.

No I don't think it is either. It is just convenient coincidence. Personally I haven't used much hp, I spend the iso to get boost to try and get my skills to go off before theirs.
  • More direct ways of promoting health pack sales such as removing permanent healing, adding characters that purge health from themselves and overtly adjusting matchmaking to try and lessen the "farming" capabilities of pvp under 600 pts? Sure, there are more apparent ways of doing so.

If you look at the overall scheme of how the game has progressed since it started, it's more and more apparent every move they make is driven by micro-trasactions. (Obviously). There's nothing wrong with making money, don't get me wrong. But when the NPCs generate yellow for Hood, Black for Mystique's Masterwork and Doctor Doom's Summon Demons all within the same event, it's pretty apparent there's a theme. I don't think the devs are scratching their heads wondering why the NPCs are generating off-color AP. They obviously know that's happening. By simply creating the team combinations in these events with the AP generation as it is is a blatant fish for change; certainly not a happy coincidence. Don't be naive.

As for Hood's Twin Pistols. The change doesn't bother me. However, I think it's wildly unbalanced when you compare it to other 3 star character's skills (Beast, She-Hulk, etc..) which are obviously under-powered.
