pvp defensive teams

Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea how the PVP system works. I am actually quite confused as to how defense works in PVP as whole.

Could someone explain whether the team you attack with (say storm, thor, obw) is your defensive team for that particular match (vs player 1).

How about if you hit player 1 with one team, and player 2 with another, which one is your defensive team then? The last one? Both? Individual to player? Random?

Does PVE team (presuming you play PVE and PVP at about the same time), or team you play with in Simulator affect your defensive team in an event?

Is the only way to set a defensive team to play them against another team? Or can you go into the "select team" screen and select who you will be defending with?

Anyways, clearly, I have many questions. If there is a guide out there explaining these, I am willing to read it, but I haven't found anything with these answers. Any help is appreciated.

Lastly, can you decide which boost/team up the computer chooses to use for you on defense, and how?

EDIT: I think I found the answer to some of these in the PVP guide (see : http://www.d3pforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14693&hilit=pvp+guide - also mods, please star this topic for us newbies so that we easily find it on the front page), but I don't think it answers all my questions. I think the questions on which team others will see still applies, and I hope someone can answer this.

    For retaliations, the defensive team will be the team you used to beat them. Other than that, the defensive team is the team you last won a match with. It is possible to have different defensive teams in different events, and changing teams in one event will not have any effect on other events.

    I'm fairly sure (almost 100% certain) you cannot affect which team-ups are used in your defensive matches. Boosts are never used by the AI. I think (hope) that if you have no Team-ups that one is choosen at random, otherwise the AI selects one from your available pool.

    I think the TUs are always chosen at random, regardless of what you may have stocked. I've seen way too many Force Field Crushes for it to be based on what you have.
