AI cascades must be addressed

I believe that the AI has about the same luck as a player when it comes to getting match 5's. However, when it comes to getting tiles to drop down from OFF the board to create a couple match 3 or 4's sometimes even two or three in a row, the AI has the advantage. I don't know how to classify those. I don't consider it a cascade unless it makes a crit tile, maybe I'm wrong in that regard.

If it's 44% you and 56% AI then it's a huge advantage to the AI because the human always goes first, which means the human always have the first pick on the initial board and quite often the first major cascade also kills the cascade potential of the board by taking all the good stuff. Without having a further breakdown of the matches it is impossible to tell whether this is because the computer is better because it's more skilled, or the human is less skilled, or that human fatigue has a far more effect than most people think (there are a lot of times where I thought I'm supposed to get two moves in a row without stuns), or whether fights against guys like Ragnarok or Juggernaut naturally greatly favors the AI in terms of cascades, especially if they've the appropriate AP pump.
With the amount of data he generated, the 5% swing either way is well within error.

My paper note that i record when playing at home has me at more 10+ cascades than the ai. The ai currently slightly leads in the 20+ap cascades.

Did not quite do the 14K damage I needed in one turn to kill the whole team and this was without any boosts on my part. I have cast Judgement x1 Molotov Cocktail x 2 and Retribution x 1 before my turn finished. Never seen the AI pull that off in a single turn and I still have a match to make but I could not find one to do the remaining 1400 damage to Rags the purple match at the bottom with espionage did not quite do it.

Oh yeah. I love it when this happens. I've been playing MPQ for about 9 months now, and getting multiple critical cascades in the first turn only happens once every few weeks.(if even as often as that). But when it does, winning a match on the first or second turn is soo sweet. icon_e_biggrin.gif

Part that is also, as Phantron pointed out, human fatigue. Just a little while ago, in Hollowpoint PvP. I matched 3 green so I would have enough to use Xforce green ability. As soon as I hit it, I noticed a row of 5 yellow going down the side for critical match 5 in far left column. I should have hit that, then hit the green match 3. Instead, the Ai got it. I am bad about getting so fixated on collecting a specific color that I sometimes will miss better moves that the Ai will take.
  • The margin of error/sample size thing is quite misunderstood on the Internet. It is sufficient to ask about a couple hundred guys to have a very high confidence of who will win the president of the United States as long as you're reasonably sure your sample size is unbiased and reflective of the electoral base even though the number of voters might be close to million times of those you polled. I don't know how many games were sampled but if that if it's more than a few hundred it's sufficient, and the bias in the data doesn't really matter because suppose the bias is due to facing Juggernaut/Ragnarok in PvE, this isn't ever going to change unless you stop playing PvE so unless we start seeing more non DA PvE content you can assume this bias is simply part of the playing field. Likewise if the problem is fatigue, unless you're going to take a Korean gaming boot camp to work on your gaming endurance we can assume that people do get tired when playing at the demanding pace PvP/PvE demands. I'm pretty sure I routinely get beaten up badly on AI cascades for the very early morning and very late night refreshes I'm doing, but if you want to be competitive in PvE you don't have a choice of just not doing those so even if that data is biased, it's not something you can do about unless you don't care about placing well, and if you don't care about placing well you shouldn't care about AI cascades in the first place.

While waiting for Thick as Thieves nodes to reset I decided to run a couple Sims. First match, 2 moves in I've generated 6 ap. The AI in the same number of moves? 47 ap! In 2 turns

This is not an unusual occurrence

Every once in a while I get an epic cascade... right when only one match is all that is needed to kill my opponent.

So I get 10+ matches while my opponents are already long since dead, while I continue to dance upon their grave, taking an extra 30 seconds before the match actually ends.

Clearly you're the AI, humans never get these cascades

Most of my epic cascades seem to happen after the last opponent is dead. Round ending x-force or surgical strike and I'm cascading for a good 4-6 moves for 30+ AP. When the AI gets cascades they are typically in the early to middle rounds of the fight and the only reason I notice them is because they last for so long my screen dims because it thinks I'm away from my phone.

Its comforting to know that we have so many psychologists playing MPQ.

Would you like to talk about it?

Course that was, ummm, how long ago was that. Let me see, ..... uuhhh, add those, carry the 2, divide the remainder, pie R squared, minus the year I graduated and it was .... WoW. I'm old. icon_cry.gif

Wait, what were we talking about icon_e_confused.gif ?

How do you feel about the number of psychologists playing MPQ?
  • Somewhere in the dark recess of the servers of MPQ, a couple of AI are chilling out after a hard day's work over pints of cyber Guinness. Usual complaints and mutterings can be heard.

"Gawdamn awful job we have.... Facing human players with boosts or THREE TUs. Mind you THREE when we only have one."

"Whats up with those human cascades?? Got my rear socket wiped by turn 2!"

"Those players have cool names whereas D3 can only come up with B4conMagic. Bad spelling too."

"No statutory leave or rest periods. This is abuse of cyber labour."

Not so bad when you get to start every match at @100% without health packs and have goons feeding you free ap
