R65 Data usage? - Update 2

I just noticed that post the new R65 update, running MPQ uses 10x more data than it used to in Android. What the heck??

Playing an hour used to take about 10mb of data. This morning I played and it used 100mb of it. I can't play this game anymore if it eats my data like that. I don't have unlimited data to play a game that will eat my month's quota in a day.

Is anyone else having this problem?

UPDATE
Hi all, I've been checking in on the other thread about this, but wanted to drop a note here too. We think we have a fix for this in the works. I'm pretty sure it's related to our chat problems on PC and Android. If any of you are seeing excessive bandwidth on iOS, please post here; that would suggest it's not related to chat, but is a separate.

I know this really sucks for you guys, and we're working hard to fix it. We'll have an R65.1 update out as soon as we have it tested. I can't give a timeline yet, but it's one of our top priorities.

I probably won't have time to reply to anything here, but I'm keeping an eye on the thread.

Ugh yeah, MPQ is at 229MB for Nov. 18-19 on my phone (and it's only around 2pm on 11/19 now). I dont know if this is just from regular usage or if there was a huge daily update or whatever but I can't eat up my data plan like this either.

I played a lot on the train yesterday and have 100 MB of data use. That's nuts - more than it would generally use in a month previously. The hell?
  • Hi, i have a serious problem.

Everytime i start and play MPQ, the game start consuming bandwidth around 120-170 KB/s.

This already consume 2GB in just 2 days. This is never happen before.

Confirmed, before i start MPQ, i close all browser, applications, background process, disable apps auto update .

Already send ticket regarding this issue. But, has anyone experience this before?
  • I started a post and sent in a ticket on this too but for Android.

Is it happening for PC versions as well?
  • i'm playing via steam, pc version.
so MPQ is now a malware?
  • well thank you for this post, i experienced the same viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19411
what so annoying that it keeps consuming even when idle.
  • I've noticed the same after the last update. More than 100 MB / day, playing 7 to 10 PVP matches.
  • My carrier just sent me an overage alert and I'm only 2 days into my billing cycle! it's used more in the last 2 days than any of the last 4 months according to my phone's logs. This is nuts! Now I'm going to pay at least $10 in overages, normally 10 bucks at least gets me a roster slot.
  • Not sure about r65, but the previous version was already causing my Samsung tablet to overheat and oftentimes it would shut down mpq in the middle of a game because of the overheating. There is no reason why mpq should be using so much data and cpu. Please fix it. Thanks.

Okay, seriously, it was bad enough when R61 switched over from loading images at install to loading them on first run, but this is crazy. Substantially upping data usage without a warning is tantamount to literally removing money from players' bank accounts. Well beyond "not cool."
  • 18-20th Nov - 410mb of mobile data used by MPQ, that's as much as it used during the entirety of October.

    Wow.

    I'm on a Galaxy Note 2 running 4.4.2

I just confirmed this by looking in windows task manager. With MPQ open it's constantly hovering around .65% network utilization (54 Mbps wireless network), with MPQ closed it's at 0

Hi all, I'd love to hear more details about this. I see Android and PC users reporting in this thread; any iOS users having this problem? I'm asking because if it's PC and Android only, it's likely related to our chat problems. If iOS users are seeing this too, it's probably not related to chat.

I probably won't have time to reply to anything in this thread, but any reports are welcome.

    Thanks!
  • Android here, same issue. Maybe it's related to why the game stutters so badly and the audio drops out completely on my Nexus 7 (2013). That, along with the no chat and no points for Smash Hit problems, have made the game all but unplayable. If it weren't for the Thick As Thieves event, I wouldn't be able to use this app anymore.

If you want my details, I'm on Android 4.4.4 (KTU84P), Nexus 4. Here's a screenshot of my data usage from 11/17 to now:

  • Stumbled across this thread, and couldn't agree more. Since the update, my data usage has gone through the roof. I play plenty of the time on my Android phone, without wi-fi access, and it's eating up bandwidth at a pretty unsettling rate.
  • Thanks for the response Kevin.
From windows resource monitor (MPQ idle).

This may or may not have anything to do with the reason for the bandwidth loss, but on Tuesday I was on a subway that has cellular service in the stations but not in the tunnels. A few times previously I'd played MPQ on the same train by loading up a fight in one station, playing it most of the way through in the tunnel, and then finishing it after I got service back, because the game doesn't use data during a fight, just before and after. This time as we went into the dead zone the fight froze up and crashed.
