Losing points when giving up on a fight?

I'm not sure if this is a new feature of if I just never noticed it before.
During a PvP fight I walked into a hostile thor cascade and lost the match. so now when I look at the screen I can still skip the opponent, but apparently a the cost of 4 points...was it always like that?

Yes allways been that way, but it is some times 0 points to skip.0
