First post. Apologies if this has been discussed or inappropriate.
After scraping for a while, I may have enough hp to purchase a 3* power? Is it worth it to do so?
I have hulk 5-1-5, and Sentry at 3-2-3.
What do you think?
Thanks!

Mostly everyone will say not to purchase a cover. One cover is not as valuable as using the HP for additional shields. But to each his own. My opinion would be only do so if you could get a full maxed in one swoop or youve been waiting forever to get that one last cover. XF Black is insane. IMO worth the cost. Hulk, not so much. Sentry yes possibly but only if you already had 3/4/4 or better.

Thank you! I did find a similar post saying the same and I'll follow your advice icon_e_smile.gif
  • Using HP to buy shields assumes that:

    1. You'll be around to compete for the event.
    2. You'll be able to compete well against other guys who are also waiting for the said hero.
    3. The hero you want is offered as a prize in the first place.

Over a very long period of time it's probably the best choice provided you can indeed win reliably, but that's a very long time. I don't think being able to hit 5 is as big a deal because the covers got to come from somewhere. I wouldn't buy a cover if it'd leave you under around 1000 HP which is about the amount you need to be on the safe side if Sentry is offered next event. I don't think Sentry was even offered as a prize for PvP in season 7? So how are you supposed to save your HP to win someone who never showed up on the prize pool? Sure, you can win a lot of heroes who are not Sentry, but they won't really help you much if you want to be competitive at the top in the current game.

Now since it is believed Sentry might be nerfed it might not be the best idea to purchase his cover regardless of anything else, though this is an issue of timing. We were told there was going to be a Magnetic nerf a long time ago, but it took a very long time and certainly anyone who bought his covers prior to the last 2 months or so of the nerf got more than their HP's worth back in winnings.
  • Don't spend a single dime on this game, or use any of your HP, until they retract the changes to PVP matchmaking.

We, as a playerbase, need to make a statement about this.

Only purchase a cover if it'll make you more competitve. I waited forever to get a ldaken black. It really took me a long long time. I finally got it in the gauntlet 2 as a final reward. Then I got him from a heroic token which was kind of annoying. I then bought two black covers to get him to 4 as I had 5 purple and 4 blue and now I can climb to nearly 700 without using health packs and shielding.

So it was worth it. Even now I still haven't received another black cover. Who knows when I would get the next two. The drop rates are terrible. And It is extremely difficult to reach top 10 now in pvp to win these covers cos of bombing and shielding which cost HP, even for boosts and health packs.

Don't go crazy with purchasing covers but it can be worthwhile to get these guaranteed covers. More worthwhile than buying 10 and 40 packs with their abysmal drop rates.

The thing with shields, and many people who are up there forget, is that even if you shield, your roster could be so bad you can't even find winnable matches to hop with when you get to top 50.

I would not buy a cover until the purchase would give you a very competitive optimum character, for example don't buy Xforce Green until you can move it to 5, buying a cover to go from 2 to 3 green would not make a difference, so just save the HP for later.

Getting the last covers needed to have a sentry that can let you shield hop is a good spending because he will earn his cost ten-fold in better finishes.
  • The game doesn't care about the order you bought your cover as long as it ends up in whatever the best combination is. Let's say you started with a 1/1/1 X Force, so you spent 5000 HP to buy 2 black covers for 1/3/1, and then some time later you were able to win enough covers to make him 5/5/3. That's no different than going to 5/3/3 and buy the last two covers for 5000 HP. There are 3 reasons you wouldn't do this:

    1. Buying the cover would put you at a too low of HP to make a serious push for the case where a useful hero is offered for a PvP event. If you only have 2600 HP, it's probably not a good idea to buy a 2500 HP because you never know who is the prize for the next event.

    2. You think X Force is going to be nerfed.

    3. You think your luck is going to be awesome enough that you'll end up wasting covers.

Of course there's no logical basis on #2 or #3 even though they can both happen. Sure, I remember the time I bought a cover and then immediately got the same one on the next token. But in general people aren't so lucky to be able to complete 13 covers in the ideal configuration by just luck. If it was that easy nobody would need to be asking these questions. Now you might want to consider say buy cover up to 4/4/3 instead of 3/5/3 for X Force starting at 3/3/3 because that way it gives you a 100% chance the next X Force cover you pull is going to be useful (even the yellow can at least let you level your character), but if you look at the odds of pulling an X Force at all it's just not very good unless you got several 10-pack tokens saved up. When it comes to ability that are character defining it's generally better to have that level 5 in Surgical Strike or World Rupture and then end up wasting some HP, versus being one level short and never getting the cover you need and thus getting very little value out of the said character until then. Remember as soon as your character has the covers he can start earning value for you. Even a 1/5/1 X Force is quite potent and certainly better than many generic 3*s.
