Feedback needed: Tips for joining a top 100 alliance

I added a section to the "single player looking for alliance" thread on what it takes for an individual contributor to get into a top 100 alliance. I thought it might be helpful for those seeking "top 100" to see what it really takes to accomplish this.

I'm re-posting here so that I can get feedback and see if anyone strongly disagrees with any of this.

How to get in a top 100 PVP alliance
Now that seasons are underway for 4* Thor, and now that alliances are defaulting to 20 members, I thought I'd offer some tips for players seeking to get into the top 100 alliances. This is based off what I saw in season VII, and I expect it will only go up as more alliances get to fighting strength. If you don't feel you can maintain this level of activity, then don't join an alliance aiming for the top 100. You will only be setting yourself up for future discord as the season comes down to the wire.
  1. Average Versus score needed: 600+. This should be the average that you shoot for to keep your alliance in the top 100 for any given event. Fail to meet this score and you'll risk upsetting your alliance leaders and set yourself up to be replaced.
  2. Average Season score needed: 8000+. Keep an eye on where your fellow alliance mates are. You may have some in the 7k range, and some in the 10k range, but you need to keep your average around or above 8000. If it drops lower than that, consider pushing the simulator to boost your own number.
  3. Average Sim score needed: 1500+. Sim is padding on top of what you earn in the versus events. It can be lost which makes it very hard to gauge how solidly in the top 100 your alliance actually is. Aiming for 1500 points is a solid and maintainable margin of points to help keep your alliance up in the rankings.
  4. Average HP spent on shields per event: 150-225 Depending on how smartly you play, you can get away with less than this amount. However, expect to buy at least 2x 3 hour shields, and quite probably a 3 hour and an 8 hour. This can add up so plan ahead for your HP expenditures.

Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated.

With the new influx of alliances that have popped up, I'd say the minimum score is going to go up to at least 700.

Holding alliance mates in check is key and don't be afraid to replace non-performers if you're serious about placement.

Based on the seasons rankings thread, the 100 line seemed to be just shy of 180000 points. It will be helpful to continually revisit this metric as the scores have been growing upward. It would be even more helpful if we could get recaps midway through the season to see where the border scores are.

I think 1500/SIM is a good score. That leaves 15000/alliance/event or 750/player/event. I think if players can keep themselves within the 700+ range they shouldn't have any problems finding a spot in a top 100 alliance.
  • The Next Best just raised req to 650 from 550. We were making top 100 with 550 req but required more top players in 2nd alliance to balance it out. Also no one cares if your top 5 or top 100 in pve or pvp. That tells recruiters like me absolutely nothing. We need to know how many points you can get per pvp, how many points you had last season and for some how many points you got in last pve. Also I like confident players, my goal is to get 40 players pvp rewards and 60 players pve rewards. If you can't make req then don't join a top 100 alliance, join a top 100 sister alliance so you can learn from better players and have an easier way to transition into a top 100 alliance. Getting line chat also helps, there's some great mpq rooms to ask questions and learn from. If you want an invite download line chat and pm me. Line id: junebugkiller1
  • I think all your score points are completely valid (although for top 100, 7500 may be enough as we had a couple of members around 5,000 and were still 69th for the season). I do think you should drop the HP requirement though.

I rarely shield unless I will miss the end of an event (and I want the covers), and I ended up with just under 10,000 for the last season. I have never shield hopped (although I probably will try the next time a Black X-Force is 1300 progression though and i don't have plans for that evening). I am unsure why spending HP should ever be a requirement from any alliance.

I have that in the "general" tips section for how to advertise yourself, b/c you're right as a recruiter, I want to know if you posted 800 points in the PVP, not that you squeaked in to a top 5 in the last 20 minutes of an event.

Perhaps you are right. How you get your score is up to you. I agree that you shouldn't have to pay to score well, and I do mention in the blurb that you can get away with less, but I also want to prepare people for the possibility that competing for top 100 is a potentially expensive business. As the number of well-organized 20-man alliances goes up, competition is going to increase as well, which I think will drive down the possibility of doing shield-less high end pushes. The number of people competing for the top is just going to keep going up.

I should also point out that I did say "average" for the amount of HP spent. I have gotten away with less and I have spent more. I'm not sure that I've ever had a top 50 finish (with at least 600 points) where I didn't have to shield (or fight to maintain my standing, let alone advance it).

I think the big take away is we want results in terms of points, regardless of how you get them (as long as it is in a legitimate way). If you can push at the end and get scores of 1300+ with only spending one 3-hour shield, great! If it costs you 1k HP to do the same and you're ok with that, to each their own. In the end, we just want to make sure people are producing.
