Just a few quick questions, for those of you that tank in the Simulator to lower your MMR;

How many times are you tanking before you go into a PVP?

Does it have to be done before going in or anytime during a PVP?

My Simulator score is 969 right now, used those points to get to 4000 to get Heroic 10 pk, since I can't finish above 600 pts per PVP. If you use the Simulator to tank, I assume that you have no score or a low score in the Simulator and don't use it except for maybe the last days to add to your season score. Are those assumptions correct?

Tanking means actually losing, not just retreating, correct?

And for anyone that feels extra charitable, what kind of scores should I expect with my roster as it stands? Sentry is 2/5/4, but Hood is 2/1/5 and LDaken is 0/4/2. What would be my ideal team to leave on defense, since right now, don't really have the HP to shield?

  • My best advice to you is :

    - you are the only one to be able to test your roster,
    - you will have your own playstyle, and you will learn by losing/making mistakes,

So, play as much as you can, experience teams according to your roster's content.

You will get a lot more satisfaction learning by yourself than by getting a Plug and Play recipe.

The more you play, the better player you will become.

Thanks for the advice. I may be the only one able to test my roster, but there are plenty of people on the forum that would know the advice that I'm looking for. I play plenty. I know that the only way to win the Top 2 prizes in PVE is to grind. That is how I've placed Top 2 in the past 5 or 6 PVEs, ridiculous amount of grinding.

There are mistakes that can be avoided, if you know about them beforehand. And there are mistakes that you are unable to go back and change. An example is leveling, in regards to scaling. If I would've kept leveling my 3*s, I would've scaled myself out of being able to play PVE competitively. I may have been unable to complete The Gauntlet, if I was scaled out. There's no way I would be able to level characters down. As it is, my 3*s are soft capped at 104, but if I would've known of scaling, I wouldn't have leveled them past 94. Although there is no conclusive proof of that, I am going off a general consensus of posts I've read on the forum, and the experience of my alliance mates.

I will get a lot more satisfaction by getting a Plug and Play recipe, because there's some things you just can't figure out on your own. Heck, I didn't even know that healthpacks regenerated or that Sentrybombing required a Sacrifice tile. Personal satisfaction from learning on my own, isn't that gratifying and doesn't get me higher in PVP. Being self aware and knowing where my weaknesses are, and being able to ask for and receive help, gives me gratification. More covers from higher rankings in PVP will get me a lot more satisfaction, then continuing to do what I do and end up in the same position PVP after PVP. I may have hit my ceiling in what I know or what I can figure out. There are things that others can fill me in on, based from their experience, that can help me.

Again, thanks for your input, but hopefully others will be able to contribute to what I'm asking for help with.

I don't have an answer for this really. Tanking is just something I do when I've run out of health packs. Just lose games while I watch tv.
Does it have to be done before going in or anytime during a PVP?

Not really sure about this either. Alot of people seem to believe it does though. D3 has never really given us a write up of how their MMR works.

Alot of people push SIM scores near the end of a season, yes. Also if you only tank matches that are 35+ points, you only lose 1-5 points per match.

Yes, lose. Retreating either doesn't lower your MMR or doesn't lower it as much.

some combination of Thor, Ares and OBW is usually a skip team for a transition player. Some 3* teams might look for easier prey too. You're never gonna score above 600 without a shield though.

Regarding Tanking - if you're seeing teams you can beat in the 0-550 range (up to 600 or even 650, depending on how everyone else is playing,) you're probably doing it right. Past that point I don't think it matters - you're going to see 3* teams regardless of your MMR. I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not tanking helps - I personally don't think it does.

In the Season Simulator that probably translates to somewhere between 1300 and 1800 - I'm at 1500 right now and are definitely seeing bigger teams. This might move up, though, as more people get into that range. Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on getting the 3*s out of the simulator unless you can beat 3* max teams (and even then, you'll probably just get pushed down again.)

Tanking means losing a fight in a normal PVP - the Season (or between Season) PVPs or the Simulator. I can't really cite the reference, but I do recall that someone once said that the Lightning Rounds have a much lower impact on MMR - tanking there will be much less effective.

As far as your roster goes - there is a certain level in a particular skill that you should get to before leveling up that character. There are no real hard and fast rules - you need to decide what is good and what isn't. The Hood, for example, his yellow is neat, but too expensive to be anything more than an afterthought, his black is good for Sentry Bombing (and that's pretty much it,) but his blue is amazing. That means yours isn't so great - I'd leave him where he is until the rest of your roster is much higher.

I don't think you've screwed yourself - 102 is not that much of a difference from 94, but I'd definitely wait until you have more covers in some better characters before you level anyone past that. Your Cap is nice and maxxed, but he can't carry PVP by himself, he's just too expensive. Your Sentry is pretty good, but you just can't climb well with the Sentry.
