Another "Who To Level Next" thread

Hi all, long time lurker and finally registered. I've been enjoying this game for some time now, and discovered the forum after messing up some of my builds. icon_mad.gif Anyway, I'd like to seek some advice from the good folks here on where to go next with my covers.

I've only got 2 of them maxed, being Thor 85 5/4/4 (I know, wrong build but I already had him max level so I didn't bother to redo it) and 2* Wolvie 85 5/3/5. Here's the rest of what I got (excluding the 1* covers as I think I've progressed past their usefulness):

Rag 5/5, lvl 102
Iron Man Model 40 5/5/3, lvl 100
Grey Suit Black Widow 3/3/5, lvl 100
Spidey 3/5/3, lvl 100
Classic Storm 4/4/5, lvl 68 (yes I messed this one up royally; I actually have another that I started that is 5/5/2 right now, but not sure if I really want to bother leveling her up as I've found that I'm using her less and less these days)
Doctor Doom 3/5, lvl 50
Hulk 4/1/1, lvl 50
Punisher 1/2/2, lvl 41
Invisible Baglady 1/1/1, lvl 30
4* Wolvie 1/0/1, lvl 30
3* Magneto 0/2/1, lvl 21 (this one is driving me nuts; haven't been able to get a stinking blue cover and I keep reading how great he is)
Hood 1/4/2, lvl 20
Daken 5/5, lvl 17
Loki 2/2, lvl 15 (not even sure why I'm bothering to list him)
Captain America 3/4/4, lvl 14 (this is a rebuild as I screwed up my first Cap royally with 5/4/4; still not bothering to level him tho)
Moonstone 5/5/3, lvl 10
Original Black Widow 5/5/2, lvl 10
Bullseye 5/5, lvl 7
Modern Hawkeye 5/5/3, lvl 6
Magneto MN 3/3/5, lvl 6

My go-to team lately has been the old staple of Rag/Spidey/Wolvie. I want to add GSBW to the mix but with her green sitting at 3 she's not ready. My Spidey is also a little **** with just 3 purple, but he's at 5 blue so he's still solid. My original thought was to try and get all the 3*s to level 100, and then pick and choose from there. However, I'm thinking that maybe I should focus on maxing out some of these. Thanks to the current Hulk event I'm sitting on 45k ISO so I'd like to put it to good use.

Any advice on what to do next? Maybe max out Rag and go as far as I can with Spidey? Or save some with the hopes that I land 3 more Hulk covers after this event to get him as high as I can? (It would bring him to 5/2/2; I originally was going to hold out and stay at 3 green but I got the 4th from a Gamma token in the first event and it was the only cover I got from the Gamma Bomb set that wasn't Cap or Wolvie and I didn't want to waste it. I'm still not 100% sure of what my final build for him is going to be.)

Anyway, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys.

  • Kind of depends on your short term goals. For instance do you want to get some more of those cMags covers? If so I'd say focus on Rags and pair him with Wolvie/Thor, grab some diabolical tokens from lightning rounds and try to make a run at the Mag round.

And you probably don't even need to spend any more iso on him for that.

If on the other hand you're looking for more gsBW green covers wait until a tourney pops up again with her as a reward. Then spend iso accordingly.

I'm personally waiting until tomorrow night for three more covers for hulk (well two). Then I should be able to get him up to 80 or so. He's intriguing to me and if he is to you as well then yeah, wait for that.

Your Spidey is probably fine for now if you'd like to diversify. More iso for him essentially just means more health (and small upgrades to healing).

If hood has 4 in dormammu he could come in handy during hood rounds

    They'll be fixed soon

His Spidey is 11/13, I doubt he can level him much more yet
  • Thanks for the quick input, beezer37_84. I believe you're one of the folks that likes to tinker with your lineups and not go with the traditional, run-of-the-mill boring teams? For me, prior to the Hulk events I never knew how great Wolvie was and he was never a consideration for me. I honestly couldn't understand why people would rave about him so much in the forum. Then I decided to level him up a bit and try using him, and wow now I always want him in my lineup. (I used to always look for the quick match 3s of red first for Rags, but now the match 3 green for Wolvie has become a higher priority.)

I DEFINITELY want more cMags covers but I don't feel I have a strong enough base team to make a serious run at it (though I did manage to place decently in one of the Rags LR which gave me a green cover that I needed). I mean, I can field a good lineup but I can't keep up with the onslaught of retaliations.

I've never really run with Rags/Thor/Wolvie as I keep thinking that their abilities kind of clash (reds burned up by Rags, greens by Wolvie; I guess Thor covers yellow?). I keep feeling like Spidey is the better fit for stuns and heals. Maybe I should try out that team though. So you think having Rags at 102 should be sufficient, and there's no need to burn what I'm guessing to be around 30K of ISO to get him maxed out? That's kind of my thinking but I can't help feeling that I should max him out when I see so many others in PvP at 112 or above.

Hulk is definitely intriguing, but at 5/2/2 (hopefully if things go well) he'll still be lacking on my squad.

Another guy that I keep mulling over is Doom. Not sure how he'd fit in my teams though. Hood only enters my mind when I see his LRs pop up, but I guess I haven't really put enough thought into him to see if he's a viable addition to my starting lineup.
  • Kelbris, thanks for chiming in as well. My Spidey currently has a level cap of 115, so there's another 15 levels to go. I'm not sure if it's worth burning the ISO to get him there yet though.

You're thinking Hood might be a decent option? I only see him as being of use during Lightning Rounds as you mentioned, but not for anywhere else. Now that you mention it though, it might be worth it to make a run at the Diabolical tokens which in itself would make it ISO well spent. Hmm....

If you want strike tiles with rags, level up your Daken; he'll create two each green match which your 2 AP claps create plenty of, and you save the green for GP

They synergize quite well, but you've gotta get Daken to a high level (50 or so)
  • I thought that Daken's strike tiles were a lot less powerful than Wolvie's though? Is he really worth leveling when I already have Wolvie at max? (And yes, I realize that I would need to level Daken up for him to be useful. I'm thinking that if I were to add him to the starters I would go ahead and max him out.)

You get two for 38 (each) at max level, and you can easily generate 1-2 on every thunderclap. They add up quickly, and one you have about 5 the clap cascades can get brutal. Your also getting them for nothing, which helps a lot.

He's definitely worth a try. If he had a third skill (and therefore can get another 16 levels) he'd be pretty dangerous on his own.

I think if you start with diabolic tokens a Rag at that level (with the crazy buff), Wolvie and Thor will serve you well. I like Spidey much more than Thor in general but in lightnings he slows you down a little too much (but subbing him for Wolvie to heal Rags/Thor every once in a while is fine). No harm at all in leveling Rags some more but if the ultimate goal is LRs he is fantastic where you have him.

I like Doom in LRs but he is slow to ramp up, conflicts with your Wolvie (red tiles) but packs a solid punch when leveled. I never use mine outside of LRs though. Hood on the other hand is definetly high on my to-level list, probably right behind Hulk.

If we're strictly talking about LRs skip Daken. He is a significant downgrade to Wolvie all the time but especially in LRs.

Yeah, I love my max rag but I like it more when I'm forced to use other teams. It was the Venom heroic event that made me fall in love with Wolvie.

I'm having a lot of fun with my Punisher right now. Completely different type of game with him/Spidey/Mags. I miss Rags speed when I use them but meh, maybe I can ween myself off.
  • I am DYING to level my Punisher but I can't seem to get his covers. Mine is only 1/2/2, which is why he's stuck at level 41. I'm thinking of going 3/5/5 but I'm not quite sure yet.

I'm still not quite sure what to think about Hood. Of course, mine is only 1/4/2 so I'm not sure if he's even worth leveling for me in his current state. What exactly is it about him that puts him high on your "to level" list?

I'm thinking I'll probably follow your lead and level my Hulk tomorrow night, but he still won't be optimal given the lack of covers. His relative high health should still be an asset though.

Thanks for the additional input re: Rags/Thor/Wolvie. I may try out that team in LRs. My worry though is that I think my MMR might be a bit high as I'm only seeing 3 100+ level characters on every match that comes up. Will a 102/85/85 team still hold up well in the LR tournaments? Everyone is all uber-buffed so I'm thinking the 2 85s are kind of limping in there, but maybe I'm wrong as I never tried that combination before.

I'm going 3/5/5 on Punisher and no regrets so far. If they ever buff that black (lower countdown or something) I might regret it but even then we'll see.

For me Hood is intriguing because he is the *** ap thief and battery that well, doesn't stun himself. Since speed is such a big part of the meta right now I'm curious to see how he would do with slowing down ap generation for opposing teams. Granted 1 ap stolen is nothing when Rags sets off a gazillion cascades on turn two but anything helps, especially to fuel your own 2ap powers (thinking Spidey specifically) or to get that extra ap or two for 7,8, 10 or 11ap, etc... powers.

And yeah, a high mmr will hurt that team significantly in LRs. But I've decided I'm going to stop feeling bad about telling others to tank. When they fix pvp hopefully there will just be no need to do it anymore.
