2* to 3*, where to invest ISO with respect to scaling?
Hi guys,
I'm in the middle of my 2* to 3* transition. My question is where to invest my ISO with respect to scaling in PVE, I don't want the nodes to scale too hard because I've levelled one guy above the rest. Here's some details:
2* @ lvl 94 right now: Daken, Storm, Thor, Wolverine,
2* fully covered, not at 94: Ares, Hawkeye
My Steve Rogers Captain America is also Level 94 and I could bring him to level 117 with the covers he's got.
Question: Do I put ISO in Steve Rogers or ARES/HAWKEYE? I have no other 3* with enough covers to come near level 94 for now.... so I don't want to have PVE nodes become too hard due to scaling because I've brought a single guy to level 117... if that's how it work.
Thanks,
Keops

I'm hoping you have an OBW (Black Widow - Original) because she's the queen of dealing with PVE goon nodes.
As for Steve Rogers, don't level him up if you've got mostly yellow covers since that skill is pretty useless due to the cost (his ideal build is 3 yellow 5 red 5 blue for the ability to overwrite any tile type)
Please note that heroes tend to be boosted in PVE more often that villains so expect Hawkeye to be featured more often than Ares or Daken (often you won't be able to use them because they are enemies in the Story nodes or being used as enemy Team-Up) However for PVP, Ares is very good on defense so maxing him wouldn't be bad.
Hope that helps!0 -

My OBW is Lvl 78 with 5/2/4 and my Steve Rogers' covers are 1/5/3, and yes i like his red to overwrite enemy tiles.
Any thoughts on scaling? Will the nodes scale different if Steve Rogers becomes lvl 117 versus other 2* rising up to 94?
Thanks,

I hope you can build your OBW as 3/5/5 for fastest steal, slows timers while burst healing your team & Espionage is very effective with Strike tiles (Punisher/Patch, Astonishing Wolverine, Daken when she can tank blue/purple etc.)
You'll probably encounter enemy scaling as you level up Steve Rogers, but his red is a powerful move so it can definitely be worth it. I've heard (but haven't really confirmed) that your personal scaling is set when you start an event, so I try to wait until midway through PVE before I add a few levels to useful roster members. I'll be boosting Falcon from 120 to max before I join in his PVP so I'll see what happens.
If you tend to overkill your enemies don't level him, but if you sometimes leave an enemy with < 300 health, then the extra levels will improve his skill strength and match damage. That extra turn can sometimes mean an enemy pulls off a skill, a cascade or a timer tile going off.0 -
If you're only concerned with PvE you should not bring any 3* higher than 94. We don't know how scaling works exactly but it seems like a safe guess that a 3* that's at or equal level to a 2* shouldn't lead to additional scaling. A roster built this way tends to fare poorly in PvP, though.0

Thanks! I play this game daily but casually so progression rewards are my main thing. My alliance is private with my two kids, my sister and a friend. In PVP for now I can get up to 400-500 sometimes but always get knocked back down a bit when the event winds down. I don't have the time or resources to make the competitive shield hops, etc... I could probably grow a lot faster in a better alliance, but...

While this is true, a PVE where LCap is buffed, like the one before The Hunt, will make LCap go even higher than your 2* even if he is at lvl 94. The enemies will scale pretty high because of that. Happened to me and I was in the same situation as you are. So if you want to avoid scaling do not take any 3* above 94. Keep in mind that the more 3* you level though, the more the scaling will go up.0 -

Thanks. I'll try to spread the ISOs around for now, bringing Ares and Hawkeye up to 94 at the same time. I'll likely make top 5 in The Hunt overall, for now this is fine by me and I'll get going on PVP in the next few months... I also got a bunch of 2* in the 70-94 range, if I get those covers they'll get the ISO...

Don't bother with Hawkeye until you get Magneto (or Marvel if you're feeling adventurous), he is waste of Iso until then, even boosted. When you get match 5 he is awesome, but I wouldn't count on that without other char that can make it happen, and w/o it you're left with mediocre aoe and bad stun. Wouldn't get Ares up either until you get Widow, he is powerhouse but Thor serves same role. Just bank ISO until you get oBW and MNM first, then think of Ares/Hawkeye.0

I use Ares/Daken in PVP and they do fine. They even get me def wins. Ares can use AP stealing, but he can sustain himself pretty good without it. I'd say he's the best offensive 2*.0 -

The scaling does not account for boosted levels. If it did, no 2* would ever have a chance of being competitive with 3* since even having the base level 40 3* would bring your scaling to 130 when that guy is featured but without him you'd also have no chance either due to the essential nodes. You can occasionally see guys who has only say the featured character and virtually no one else at the top of the scoreboard. It'd be practically impossible for a 1/0/0 level 130 3* to even have a chance at beating enemies scaled to level 130 opponents.
The reason why you see high levels when a powerful character like Captain America is featured is because this tends to lead to a lot of overall victories for everyone, driving the community scaling higher. But the game most definitely does not treat your level 166 major boosted character like a level 256 for scaling. If it did you'd start out with nodes in the 300+ range which, thankfully, doesn't happen.0 -
Having 1-2 powerful guys has definitely hurt me in some of the pve, and I routinely end up with unbeatable nodes.
Losing to those nodes (legitimately or tanking) never seems to change the levels, but sometimes if I win a close battle, it drops the enemy level a little bit. Because of this, I am wondering if tanking pve is at all possible - can anyone shed some light on this?

The game indeed allows 'tanking' on a 'close call' but without seeing the code it's pretty much impossible to tell how close a battle has to be considered as 'close call'. Besides, most of the hardest nodes will just stomp you and give you no chance to engineer a close call because you already lost, and if you happen to be winning those it's generally best to just take the win rather than take a chance to take some hits and risk losing the fight with nothing to show for it.0
