Newbie mistake?

I began playing this game a little less than three weeks ago, and I know I made several noob mistakes in that time. Such as getting rid of 2* characters for 3* characters just because of the higher level. I have realized my mistake and have began building 2* characters up. I have a lvl 94 2* Daken but he is my only maxed 2* character. I have a 2* Wolvie but he is only lvl 38. I have a few 3* characters with several covers. Such as Cap (4 covers) Spider-Man (3 covers) then several 3* characters with 1 or 2 covers.
With all that said how big of a mistake have I made? Should I continue trying to build my 3* or should I try to build up some 2* characters and put my 3* on the back burner?
Any advice is welcome!

this is the best guide to playing this game. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939
so definitely put your 3 stars on the back burner, build a solid team of two or three maxed 2*'s before you move onto putting any iso into 3 stars, cause it'll be a while before you start getting enough covers to get your 3 stars to the level where they're better than your maxed 2*'s, which isn't till around 105-110 range.0 -
I notice a lot of newer players pumping ISO into low cover 3* or 4* characters. you're better suited waiting to level them once you have enough covers to get them past the 100s, til then 2*s will be better.
Try to hold on to 3* covers if you can, they'll be useful eventually. Save up hp for slots. There are trash 1*s and 2*s. Sell those without fear. Read this to get an idea what you should be focusing on

Go, read! Shoo!0 -
Thanks to both of you! I figured I made a big mistake after I found the forums. That guide looks very helpful, though I skipped the 1* character step
Wished I would've found the forums before making mistakes. Lesson learned!0 -
While it's possible to slow your progress, it's pretty hard to make a mistake in this game which you can't retrieve.0

I think the only 'big mistake' you could really make would be buying iso > HP, if you were going to spend money on the game.
Otherwise, eh. Everything is reversible. Might just take you an extra two weeks to... get to the end of the line. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.0 -
Don't worry about it. To make you feel better, I was seelling Black Panther and Hood covers on my 2nd-3rd month of the game because I thought they sucked. And I have sold more than one! To this day, I am in a T50 alliance and I now have my 1st 3* at lvl 127. I have been way more casual that I should the first 3 months of my gaming and I still got to progress. It just takes longer.
In your case, you will need to sell 3* unless you get top tier covers only. Check the thread for the transition players and see which are those. If you have 1-2 max 2*, sell all your 1* and only keep Jugs for the events that come once a month. After 2* are maxed, you will need to collect covers for 3*. They will come very slow so in the meantime, focus on gathering some more essential 2* that make crazy combos to help you go higher in pvp. Best 2* combos that I use them myself at the moment are: MNMags/CStorm, Ares/OBW, Ares/Daken. These are top class (Also Torch is very good I hear, but I never got to level him and I don't think I am going to very soon). Also you have some medium combos: Thor/OBW, Wolverine/Thor which can help you too but they are way slower than the ones I said earlier.
Do not be afraid to max 2*. If you manage to get the covers for them, go for it. Avoid Cap**, Moonstone. They don't suck that much but they will not help you much either. After you have 2-3 2* maxed you will be able to go into the 500-600 pts thresshold and compete for that 3* cover reward in T100. That's the moment to join a Top 100 alliance to double those cover rewards and then kickstart your transition.
You are in your 3rd week and you have a maxed Daken. I am impressed, that is not an easy thing to do. I think the anniversary double ISO and rewards helped. Prepare to slow down your pace from now on .0 -

I don't think you should regret keeping 3* covers - you will definitely want them one day.
It is a nightmare picking what covers to keep in the early days - I would pick now the 2*s you want to keep having read the guides on here and then chuck the others as you get their covers. I consider the following 2*s worth keeping - OBW, Ares, Thor, Storm, Modern Mags, Daken, Torch, Wolverine and Hawkeye, though you don't need them all and so if you are pushed for cover space I would probably keep 4 / 5 that work together (e.g. Ares, Daken and Torch or Storm, Modern Mags and Hawkeye), regardless keeping OBW. I don't think you will regret chucking 2* Cap, Moonstone or Bagman0 -

Agree with all, but Thor and AWolvie are very often buffed and featured for PVE. So you should keep that in mind before you throw them away. Especially while you transition, PVE is the best playground for you.0 -
Thanks for everyone's help. I was worried when I first posted because I've been on forums where everyone is rude, especially to newbies, but you all have been helpful and nice this is a great community. I will be working on leveling up my 2* Wolvie and the OBW i drew today.Gonna try to get an Ares to combo with my Daken
At the moment I have 13 roster slots and only one open. Do you guys think I should clear a few slots by getting rid of 3* or should I just get Ares in the last slot and go with it?
If you think I should clear 3* here are the ones I have that I don't think are top tier: Falcon, SHe-Hulk, Storm, GSBW
I also have LCap, LDaken, Spider-Man, Panther but from what I've read those are all good characters to keep
So if I should clear space who should I get rid of?0 -
Keep the 3*s unless you absolutely are forced into making space. They will all be featured at some point or another and even having that one cover can be a big help. A few dollars into the game early to buy more roster slots is not a terrible idea either.
Maybe move spiderman into the low tier 3*s for now. If you have 2* Daken falcon might become a strong ally early on depending on what covers you have.0 -
You could easily drop She-Hulk and Spiderman. I still sell them whenever I get them. They are low tier 3* that should not be high priority for any transitioning players. However, they might be needed for some PVEs in order to hit those Essential nodes. It is a risk you might have to take. In order to keep track of who is the next essential in the next PVE, check out the cover reward for the Top 100 of the current PVE. The one given out as a reward, is the one to be essential on the next PVE.
Your roster should never have an empty spot hanging around. I know the red thing is annoying to look at, but you will get used to it. Roster slots should be filled at all times because that is what they are for. Furthermore, never use HP for anything else than adding roster slots. You should have at least 30-35 slots in order to give yourself some choices. Do not buy covers or tokens with HP. It is a waste of resources.
Do not dump ISO into 3* unless you get at least 9+ covers into them. And even if you do get the covers, make sure you have them speced correctly because they can be useless with the wrong cover distribution. (Like my Hood is at 9 covers but he is 3/1/5. Hood without 4-5 blue is just some guy occupying a roster slot).
Make sure to join a public alliance for some ISO rewards. When you become stronger you can find better alliances. Play PVP as much as you can because you can get random 2* drops. If you can push to 300 pts and get that token is really good for you. Never shield in PVP unless you are in the Top 100 and you want to save your position until the end of the event.0 -
My own bullet point recommendations for those newer to the game:
-> Spend ALL hp on roster slots. This will be your tightest resource for a very long time especially if you intend to remain free to play.
-> Lightning Rounds are your key source of ISO. Take advantage of this as much as possible. Join them within 45 seconds of the events opening up (they open every 2 hours Tuesdays through Thursdays). You fight the easy seed teams as quickly as you can to gain ISO at a rate that completely dwarfs any other mode of play.
-> 2 star characters or worth:
- Ares: The best ** character on offense and on defense for PvP's. Your best long term choice.
- Original Black Widow: Absolutely invaluable AP steal and support for all modes of play. She'll continue to be useful even when you have established 3 stars. 3/5/5 build a must with her.
- From here your favorite 3rd is optional. Classic Storm is extremely useful in PvE's and it's always great to have a source of stun and AOE damage. This is my personal recommendation. That said, characters like Daken 5/5/3 and Hawkeye with 5 speedshot are also great choices. Hawkeye and ** Magneto also lend to a natural synergy for fun times.
-> Focus on PvE. Early on this is really your only choice for a good rank. Focus your health packs here. Once you get Ares and OBW maxed out you might be able to finish top 100 in PvP's with scores around 500.
-> Don't be afraid to save up bulk amounts of ISO after your 2 star roster is established. This way you can boost one or more 3 star characters once you finally have enough covers to make them worthwhile. Great standalone 3* characters that can help carry your team are as follows: Black Panther, Captain America, Punisher, Thor, Patch, Sentry (drains health packs). That's not to say the others are worthless...far from it. Characters like Psylocke, Magneto and GSBW are great but alone they are often too slow to give you long lasting roster.0 -
Everyone has been very helpful. Thank you to all of you. I will take all the great advive and put it to use.
In other news: the Unstable PvE lasts sooo long! I want it to end now!0 -
