What do you think "preview edition" really means?

We all are looking for changes, improvements, new content, new characters and more gameplay fun. And I'm sure that will all come, but the current game version is called a preview edition for a reason which I'm not sure has been spelled out for us.

So I pose the question in the title. Also, what do you think we will see in a non-preview (full edition) of Marvel Puzzle Quest? Do you expect the devs have 3 more full chapters of story/pve in the works that would be released all at once? Perhaps they have 15-20 more character all ready to go that aren't a part of the dark reign theme...

Sure they could continue the current trend of adding characters one at a time and putting out small to medium patches as they have been (which has been good), but it seems like there's something bigger on the horizon.

  • My guess is that once the Steam version is all the way live, they will drop the Preview moniker. I'd love to see more permanent PvE content, but mainly just looking forward to getting an influx of new players into the game to keep development moving nicely.
  • What I hope (but don't expect anytime soon) is that we will get more permanent PVE missions. This is what the game needs to help noobs get more covers, iso, HP so that they can hope to be competitive in tournaments. I feel like after the prologue, your team is not anywhere near where it needs to be to complete some of the last levels of the prologue as it is, and certainly not good enough to do much in tournaments. They need something to help bridge that gap
  • Just a warning or a scapegoat. Anything can change so complaints hold less weight. Support has seemed pretty generous though.
  • I don't think it means anything at all.

Based on what the FAQ says it would only make sense to remove the "preview" if it's 100% completed... in which case I don't see much point in playing beyond that point if there's not going to be more characters, new content, etc.

Plus support will go way down at that point, since it'll be handed off to the secondary development team.
  • It's probably like how Gmail was in beta since forever.

The tag of a 'beta' or anything else does not absolve the developer from their normal obligations, though it does keep the expectation low.

Zathrus I'm not sure what kind of development you do but as far as non-devs go I figure you'd be the best person to comment on this:

Does the preview tag give them any particular benefits as far as apple/play stores go? Since it's in preview can they maybe get around wait times on updates by pushing their own like they have been? Or is that something every game can do regardless of a preview tag?

I haven't done any iOS development yet, but AFAIK that doesn't buy them anything in the Apple App Store. They certainly won't get to bypass any of the safety and security checks that are part of the developer agreement -- that would just be a huge gaping security hole in the platform.

I can tell you for sure it doesn't carry any weight with Apple -- if you have a new client release, you still have to go through their approval process to get the update listed in the app store. If your update doesn't require a new release, you can update whenever you want (although I think you're technically not supposed to do that either).
