Steam players at work

How do you do it!? It's like I need a support group. I went to bed last night in 1st with 600-something, and threw up a 1-day shield, and while I know I'm not going to be anywhere near 1st anymore when I get home, I'm dying to see where I am and whether or not a few timely matches can keep me in the top 50.

The fact that there's no sync between the phone version and steam is brutal on the nerves sometimes.

  • I guess this depends on your home situation as well. If you can hit a few matches after work then throw up a shield it usually works.

Personally, external life and this game were conflicting too much. I quit my alliance and no longer take the game as seriously any more. If I don't want the prizes for a given tourney, I don't try hard and don't shield. The MMR is much better when I'm not pushing in every single tourney, and if I grind and shield I can hit top 50 in the ones I want. It's definitely a sacrifice of some 3* covers but gives much more free time.
  • I usually play at night, and then play a few rounds while waking up (retaliations are usually few at that hour). I usually use an 8 hour shield for the events that end midday but try to avoid overnight shielding. I do ok, but am not part of the 1300+ club I think trying to force that as a Steam player would drive me crazy.
  • 1. Dump your Steam progress.
    2. Install the game on your phone.
    3. Play the game everywhere (Work, home, out with friends)
    4. Win big rewards.
    5. Say bye bye to your social life.

1st on any day but the last means very little. It's usually not worth the shield, especially around 600. If you only have one day to climb, better to do it on Tuesday and then throw up the shield and pray. Will save you HP expense.

In general, it just means identifying what you want out of the game, and finding time where you can to get there. There's no cookie cutter answer, people have different lifestyles/priorities, so what works for me may not work for you, and vice versa. Lots of people interrupt sleep to grind these things, I see that as insanity, but to each their own. I'm sure there are elements of my playing schedule that others would think equally crazy.
  • Most of my complaining is about the "Why only steam!?" than anything else. I don't have a strong enough roster to break 800, so I don't expect to ever be 1st, or even top 10 in any PVP. But if I could go to work and crank out 3-4 games during my lunch break, I'd be a happy camper. I've already invested so much time into the Steam version, though, that to just dump it all to play on my phone would be a huge waste.
  • I actually started on IOS, had trouble managing my own addictive tendencies while having it available at all times and found myself playing at work too often. So I uninstalled IOS, and started a steam account where I am only tempted to play on my own time. Might be worse for placement, but was a large boost to QOL, no regrets. Now if I can just figure out how to keep myself from checking the forums so much...

    I work at home, part-time.
I live an extremely poor but happy lifestyle.

It's perfect for an absurd amount of MPQ steam based gameplay (typically while watching webshows, listening to podcasts/audio books/music).

You settle for chronic underperformance and try to find peace with it.
  • Really surprises me they haven't brought back linking accounts between the two yet. They did it for about a week when the steam version first released and it has worked perfectly ever since. It has been a year now and they still don't want to do it for some reason. I know if i wouldn't have had my games linked I prolly would have quit by now! Maybe if you guys bug them enough they will give in!
  • I'm a steam player and haven't really had too big of an issue with it. I do tend to bring my laptop with me when I travel, but I would have done that anyway.
PvE can be an issue, but I figure that if I'm able to the crazy thing and hit every 2:24 while at home for 7-8 hours after work, grind nodes before bed (that sort of sounds dirty?), then grind them again before I leave for work, it should usually be enough. And it generally has been.

PvP - I play in bursts. The ones that end on Wednesday are tougher for me and I usually finish with a lower score in those. If it's something I really, really want, I'll use an 8 hour shieldgrey.png before bed, shield hop before work, and use another 8 hour shieldgrey.png . Most of the time that is good enough. Friday/Sunday night endings if I'm around I can do the same with 2 3-hour shieldgrey.png , which turns a small imcoin.png profit unless I go boost crazy. Or if I hop more than that for 1st or a 1300 reward.

Unless you are planning on playing the game as if it's a job (and the amount I just mentioned that I play is already a whole lot, and is more than is necessary at times), you shouldn't have a lot of difficulty.

    currently as a steam player...
My game crashes after being on the splash screen for about 3 seconds.

It says "loading" (no percentage however) the logo spins a bit, and them BAM. CTD.
So it makes no difference to me! I can't play at work or anywhere else. Whey!

  • I think the points required to be put in top 5 in steam is less than on the android or ios version? Its possible ive been put in very easy brackets cause im new or people can just generally grind less since they dont have access to it all the time
  • I'm not sure if this helps, but Windows Updates sometimes interfere with my playing of the game, particularly on patch Tuesdays. Often if I install patches and restart, it lets me play again.

No. Steam players and mobile players are pooled into the same brackets. There is no difference.

And because of this you're no longer a part of the system. You're changed; unplugged; a new person, thanks to those CTDs.
    Congratulations.
