AI cascades and losses

Wasn't really sure what to call this and I'm just posting to see if others have noticed something similar or if this is just confirmation bias.

I have noticed and confirmed with one of my alliance mates that a disproportionate amount of the time if I am in a match and I get one of those crazy AI cascades where they just wipe the floor with you that I come out of the match having gotten hit for a loss as well. So it ends up being a double loss.

For example last night I had been doing very well in PvP, gotten to 1300 so all the rewards and could have stayed shielded to the end as I wasn't going to catch Worldrunner2.0 who was over 400 points in front of me. However I was bored and figured a last match or two at the end to help season score might be good. So went in with green/black and yellow/red boosts and it was all bad. The AI got enough cascades and criticals to cast WR on the second turn and wiped Hood on the third turn. Then got enough cascades to cast every ability that he could on the 4th turn, it was impressive to watch one ability after the other. Anyway I obviously died and when I came out found that I had been hit for 45 as well, very frustrating.

This is not by far the first time this has happened to me. If I get a more regular loss where the match took a bit or the AI got one or two small cascades then I usually don't find that I have been hit but if there is one of those crazy cascade losses I think the percentage of a simultaneous loss is over 70% or that is what it feels like to me.

Is this something that others have noticed or am I just getting paranoid, and no I don't think this is a conspiracy to sell more healthpacks I was wondering more if it was some kind of crazy bug. I would be interested to know if the person that is beating me while I am getting beat by the AI is getting crazy cascades for them the way the AI is. Some kind of cascade bug anomaly?

Thoughts?

Confirmation bias. You don't notice so much when you get a huge cascade, beat the AI, then exit the match to find that someone's attacked you and lost.

While some of it is confirmation bias, for matches where the AI gets a massive cascade it will be longer than your average match, due to the cascade and the attacks the AI uses, so you are more exposed.
  • There are more cascades it seems, but I see more cascades FOR me than AGAINST me. It may be an impression though, and I'm using XF so much also.

It is because there are less Team Up tiles than there used to, right ?

I see more defensive wins in the last weeks. It happened seldomly before.

I probably am getting paranoid, if you play the game long enough sometimes you feel like the AI is out to get you icon_eek.gif

However I have been trying to monitor as objectively as I can and I'm mostly talking about the crazy cascade losses. I'm just commenting that when I get a crazy cascade loss that I usually have a loss waiting for me when I am done as well. When I have a "regular losses" then occasionally I will also have a loss coming out as well. Happens sometimes when I win as well but it seems disproportionately high when I have had a crazy cascade loss.

And this hasn't been for being unshielded, this was my first match after unshielding and it was over in under 2 minutes so I was hit pretty quickly. Mind you it was at the end of a PvP so more people are active then but I had gone 3 matches twice earlier without getting hit.

But if others are not seeing the same thing then I will go back to my little corner icon_redface.gif

    Thank you all,

My ai cheats. Ask anyone in xmen. I had about 200 defensive wins in BoP icon_e_wink.gif

Thank you all for the +1. They really add up and are very much appreciated!

CA/BoP were events that leveled the field a bit so it was much more even on off/def resulting in those increased def wins.
  • A move like Surgical Strike leads to better cascades for both sides by increasing the number of tiles of the remaining colors.

We've had a dev specifically say that the AI does in fact not cheat and have a higher chance at cascades: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15895&hilit=AI+cheating&start=20#p220699. This type of post appears enough that I kinda want them to just sticky Demiurge Will's response so we get less people wondering about this.
  • i am pretty certain World Runner's AI cheats. Numerous times right before my world rupture is about to go off his AI magically cascades my sacrifice tile away and somehow has enough red for not one, but two supernovas to blast my team into oblivion from countless match 5's. Also when I am ready to throw out rupture and sac tile his AI somehow every time throws out aggressive recon team up and kills me. I can go on and on but I will break my keyboard just thinking about this guy. I have probably lost to him a good 20-50x even before team ups were introduced. You're welcome for the +1's and +2's. I did get a few defense wins against him recently, don't know why he's wasting his time on me when i'm worth 1-7 points to him.

This wasn't intended as a post about whether or not the AI cheats. I definitely try and acknowledge when I get a crazy cascade that allows me to wipe the other team on the second or third turn. This was about losing a match to one of those crazy cascades and then coming out and finding you had been hit for a loss as well. It seems like crazy cascade loss = another simultaneous loss.

I have been seeing it for awhile and have been trying to see if it happened after crazy cascade wins or "regular" losses but I just haven't seen it to the same extent. So I figured I would post to see if others had seen the same thing. To see if it was a bug or something.

Apparently not and this is my own little paranoia showing through.

Although I'm pretty sure it was an Xman that I lost to so maybe it is an Xman conspiracy after all... icon_e_biggrin.gif

The end of BOP was one of the most active events I've ever seen. I unshielded and won a quick match with 15 minutes left. Between shielding and the end of the event, I had at least 30 bounces of my shield/defensive wins. (I say "at least" because the game only shows a maximum of five attacks and just says "and others" when there are more than five.) People were desperate for points, so if you had decent points and were exposed near the end, they would have jumped on you. So it's not shocking that you were hit during your shield hop.
