New Use For Extra Covers

Hi everyone! icon_e_biggrin.gif

I got really hyped up as the anniversary event finished, and my brain is just exploding with random MPQ ideas. I posted my idea about a new game mode, but I also had another idea that was more random.

I was just thinking... with all the tokens I got from the GT LR's, I'm finally reaching the point where about half the covers I receive for my 3*'s are for characters that are already maxed. Now, it's fine that we can sell them for 500 ISO, that's great. But what if there were another reason to collect extra covers? What if you could trade covers for some sort of cosmetic enhancement? The roster background is the same ol' boring blue light thingy. What if you could trade in like 3 covers of any color for a cosmetic enhancement to your roster background? Kind of like the Steam wallpapers.

It could some other cosmetic enhancement, too, but I think it would really be neat to, when I look at other people's rosters, see maybe a background wallpaper of their favorite characters. I think that plenty of end game players would willingly trade 3 or so covers of characters they already have maxed to dress up their roster background a bit.

Anyway, that's my idea. Let me know what you guys think.

The devs explicitly removed the HP award from selling 3* covers because top players that no longer needed older 3* covers continued to target them for the HP.
I'd say chances are slim that any additional worth be re-attributed to covers.

I still say that the best way would be to give just a little bit extra iso8.png by letting a dupe cover just give you a "free" level up
  • I'd like extra covers to be attributed to some sort of "resource" system, or even that you could "remake" them.

Alternatively, I'd like to see a "cover swap" function where you could take 1 cover for a character and swap it for another. I think especially non-random(read: rewards, non-standard tokens) rewards should always feel like rewards, so they'd have the special ability to be "changed" to other covers. EXAMPLE: I just got Captain America 3* Yellow, from winning the Super-Duper-Marvel vs DC tourney, this sucks because I don't want it. Oh cool I can change it to Red or Blue since I won this cover in a special circumstance! I guess this could also be a "cover choice" system, where when you "win" you can choose 1/3 covers.

    For instance:

-Take X trash 1* covers and upgrade/transmute them to RANDOM 1*
-Take X trash 1* covers and upgrade/transmute them to RANDOM 2*
-Take X trash 2* covers and upgrade/transmute them to RANDOM 2*
-Take X trash 2* covers and upgrade/transmute them to RANDOM 3*(of course this would take alot of covers, or maybe the process would have a chance of failing)
-Take X trash 3* covers and upgrade/transmute them to a RANDOM 3*(of course this would take alot of covers, or maybe the process would have a chance of failing)
-Take X trash 3* covers and upgrade/transmute them to a RANDOM 4*(This would have to be a ridiculous amount, but I'm also fine with this route not being available if 4* covers are that 'sacred')
-Take X trash 4* covers and upgrade/transmute them to a RANDOM 4*(This would have to be a ridiculous amount, but I'm also fine with this route not being available if 4* covers are that 'sacred')

I really like this function in another F2P game I enjoy, DOTA 2, but I'm sure I've seen it somewhere else but I'm just forgetting...

That would be pretty cool to basically save up covers and "turn them" into another random cover down the line. Would have to make it tough, but would be fun.
  • Why does it have to be a huge amount?

3 Seems ok, on the expensive side event. How often are you going to end up with 3 useless 3*.

So you go transmute those 3 covers you don't need into....Daredevil Purple! From the developer's perspective you just traded 1500 Iso for 500.
  • When I say 'huge amount' I only say that as a precaution...this option should not become the go-to outlet for getting new covers or anything. In DOTA it is generally 3:1 ratio on 'items'(Here that would be covers).
  • TF2 does something similar with weapons/metal.
