Won 20k HP at NYCC. How to spend it?

I posted a similar message over at Reddit, and was advised to bring my question over here.
So, I won $100 worth of Hero Points from the fine folks at the D3 booth at New York Comic Con last Friday.
I don't have the best roster, and it's becoming increasingly harder to place in 3* cover-winning positions (sometimes it's hard to even place top 100), so I wanted to use my winnings to pump up my roster and become more competitive.
My roster is here: http://imgur.com/a/hdFBj
As you can see, I'm in the transition phase, and a lot of the stronger characters on the MPQ roster are stuck at 1-2 covers (Daken 1/0/1, LazyThor 0/1/1, Sentry 0/0/1, Steve Rogers 1/0/1). But I have characters like Hulk (4/1/4), Patch (4/2/2) and Classic Mags (1/3/2) who would be easier to max out. And, I have X-Force Wolverine at 1/1/2.
What I've been leaning towards is building up X-Force (if not maxing him, then at least getting him to 4/4/2 or something) and a complementary character, to make it easier to generate *** covers and HP on my own.
Any advice? Assume that I don't need roster slots (I can trim some of the fat from my existing roster).
Thanks again to Joe Fletcher and the rest of the D3 team at NYCC who were really cool about giving stuff out at the raffles!

Personally, I like your idea of maxing X-Force. He's a great character and if you're still in the 2* to 3* transition it's going to be a long time before you can win his covers the regular way.
More importantly, I don't personally like to buy covers with HP. Some on this board will probably disagree with me but I don't see the point in purchasing covers in order to improve your roster which allows you to win covers that you no longer need. I can at least see the argument in the case of an MMO where buying gear allows you to compete to win better gear but in MPQ you'd be buying the exact same covers you'll eventually be competing for. If you dump your HP into X-Force he'll allow you to better compete for new 3* covers without taking away anything from the normal game since you're not able to compete for 4* covers yet.
That said, 4* covers are expensive--2500 HP each--so even with your winnings you'll only be able to afford 7 of them with another 1400 HP left over. It might not be the best way to spend your HP. However, it will allow you to seriously be able to compete for future covers which I think is the entire point of the game.
Another consideration that you may or may not have taken into account is that you currently have about 100K ISO. This will only let you take your X-Force up to around level 167. He'll be pretty darn good at that level but you'll want to raise him to somewhere between level 200 and 225 pretty quickly which will take another 80K to 155K ISO.0 -

Agree. Then run him with patch.
XF is an excellent character, but hellishly expensive and not as effective without 5 covers, and he'll need support. Better to deepen your 3* roster first, then see what comes naturally.0 -
I think you max X-Force, and it's not even remotely close. It's unfortunate that you seem to have spent a little of your 20k HP, because 5 green / black is very important for him to function well. A 5/5/2 X-Force is infinitely better than anything else you can be doing with your roster right now: Hulk is a mediocre option because he needs to take damage in order to be good on offense, leading him to not be very sustainable at all. X-Force, on the other hand, is a total monster on offensive sustainability with his yellow regen (even good at 2 covers since you can prologue heal) and ridiculous abilities. If you can somehow scrounge up the HP to get a 5/5/2 X-Force, I would dump it all into him. I don't really agree with X-Force needing much support either: your roster has plenty of outlets to use the AP obtained from surgical: C. Storm for blue, MN Mags / OBW for purple, Thor for yellow, Ares or A. Wolvie for red, and X-Force himself for green / black.
A 3* character like Patch or Hulk will be useful until you get the top tier 3* characters, whereas an X-Force will be useful basically forever. 20k HP gives you the option of either 16 3* covers or 8 X-Force covers, but the thing is that X-Force is such a dominant force in this game (amazing offensive capability with sustainability to boot) that he'll carry you through events far better than honestly every other single character in the game. And yeah, he's even better than Sentry for a transitioning player due to his sustainability.
The one downside is that this might increase your PvE scaling, and your roster would have trouble in PvEs where you couldn't use X-Force, but honestly X-Force is so strong in PvP that it's probably worth it despite this.0 -
I would buy the 3 other blues for hood and level him up then save the rest for shielding. I finally broke down and bought 2 blues for good a month ago and he made life a lot easier. Being able to shield is going to help a lot as you level. You are really far away from leveling X force and it would cost 20,000hp to buy the green and black covers you need to make him useful for you.0

Isn't a maxed 4 character going to throw him into the deep end of MMR hell with all the lava sharks that the rest of his rooster cannot hope to even scratch?0

I don't think how that's how PvP MMR works. The same thing would probably happen if he maxed out 3*s instead, and X-Force gives his roster much more of a fighting chance compared to other characters.0 -

I would say if he really want to buy XF, then go ahead and get him to 552. But don't max him out, just level him in step with whichever 3* he wants to partner XF with. This allows him to contine playing pve, and XF is much stronger than a 3* of the same level.0 -
Thanks for helping to make this an easy decision. Went 4/5/2 XF and this is like a whole new world for me. Easily got the Magneto event token which netted me an IW cover (wish it was XF green, but hey, she'll be buffed eventually).0
