Who are these people on my bracket leaderboard?

I'm completely puzzled by how my bracket in a PvP tournament is related to the leaderboard that I see.

For the last many PvP tournaments, the names I see on the leaderboard never, ever show up in the matches that I am offered, regardless of where I'm placed (and I generally work myself up to top 10 or top 20 in the bracket). In fact, I don't even recognize the names. On the other hand, I do recognize many of the names on the match-ups that I'm offered (a goodly number of them are forumites).

So who are these people who are in my bracket? Are there really two types of brackets -- the leaderboard bracket that is essentially a random grouping of X number of people who are stacked up according to points earned and which determines your tournament standing, and an ELO bracket that is based on your wins and that determines who you get matched up against? That seems kinda crazy.

  • The people on your leaderboard are set by when you finish your first match . The people you fight against are determined by your matchmaking rating.
  • your leaderboard and the 200 people competing on it are based on when you play your first match. basically, whoever is else playing their first match at the same time gets lumped with you, until there are 200 people, and then it starts making a new group of another 200 people.

the people you see when you skip through targets, are based on your personal matchmaking score, which is a function of how many attacks / defeats you have

they'll probably tweak the details as we go along, but this is more or less how it works.
  • If I see John Courage again I am going to scream...I see the same 5 to 10 people every time...so basically I have given up on PvP...

Same here. And your name is among them...
  • So basically, the leaderboard and the matches have nothing to do with one another. Sigh.

It's entirely possible to get matchups for people on your leaderboard. That's a double edged sword though. But if it was restricted to only your leaderboard then I hope you'd enjoy fighting the same 3 people that are near your MMR over and over and over and...

Some people already have this joy. It's not fun.

It would be no different than it is now for me. Every PvP tournament I can list ten names I will see over and over. with at least 60K active players based on The Hulk numbers there should be more variety than that. Everyone is complaining about the grind of The Hulk but PvP is no fun when it is just the same people over and over too. You just keep grinding away and I don't like whacking away at the same person 5-6 times. Although some of my regulars don't seem to have that problem as I often feel picked on. icon_e_smile.gif There really should be more variety in matchmaking than what we are seeing.

You didn't read my last sentence, did you?
