Massive Flaw in Mega Scaled Events: Team Ups

The Team-Up system needs to be completely reworked in events like Combined Arms and Balance of Power (and any other similar event.)

Not only are teams already ridiculously powerful, but the AI gains a MASSIVE advantage over the player. Namely, their Team-Ups are scaled to the event.

Team-Ups are already incredibly flawed in that the AI gains access to every single possible TU (and has a penchant for pulling out the perfect TU at any given time, how awesome is that unpredictability from the AI that ruins multiple otherwise flawlessly played matches!). But beyond that, in an event like BOP, the AI gets to cast level 270 Team-Ups while players are stuck with whatever piddly Team-Ups they have (I'm going to ignore criticizing Team-Ups as a whole in detail here - they are terrible and one of the worst changes this game has ever had - and focus on this issue).

How is it fair that I can be chugging along doing well in a match when all of a sudden the AI busts out the perfect TU, boosted to an insane level, and instantly wipe out any progress I made?

Fix the system. Cap AI TUs at base level for a character REGARDLESS of AI levels. This problem is also manifest in PVE where mega boosted characters can also be found.

Aren't player-use teamups also scaled to 270? Also, AI team-ups are shown in the UI when the match starts, so you can take that into account during the match.

Pretty sure player TU's are level 270 also.
  • Yeah, sorry, both of your premises are wrong. While I agree that it's sometimes suspicious how serendipitous that Aggressive Recon was, oftentimes it's also Switcheroo, or Webslinger, or All Tied Up, or some other total ****.
  • Your teamups are subject to the same level boost but unless you spend all day asking for more TUs from your alliance, no player can possibly keep up with the AI's infinite supply of TUs every match. After all you only get 1 of them every 5 games or so, but the AI has one of them every game!
  • What's funny is my level 395 Team Ups from PVE are scaled down to 270.
  • isn't the massive flaw that powers aren't "balanced" ?

all the 4* are worse than Yelena… . . .ok close to yelena.

Should match damage be normalized and abilities scale at least somewhat?
  • I would be happy if I could at least see the TU given to the enemy team before you fight them. Would take some of the randomness out of things. Get tired of the random Rage of the Panther right at the end etc...

If you aren't bugging your alliance to send you GSBW teamups at all times what are you even doing

I have had the same Rage of the Panther TU lined up for 3 weeks now. Am I actually suppose to use it icon_question.gif
I keep waiting for the right time but I only get enogh TU tiles when there is 1 person left to kill and think what a waist.
I also have a ton of X-Force, but since I climb with Patch a lot these TU sit are locked and I forget about them.

Does anyone consistantly use TU or am I the only one too lazy to use them?
  • I thought that was just part of the meta, having multiple 2/0/0 OBW's on your roster list just to supply team-ups. I also like getting/providing Jugs for unstoppable crash.

It really does hurt more casual players who don't have that level of alliance coordination though.

I still have my original Fury/Panther team-ups, because I'm usually too lazy to use >10 AP team-ups.

Sometimes I think that when I am fighting Black Widow too

Seriously, never use them. When I bring them, I never get the AP because I bring teams with synergy and it is faster and more effective to get their colors.

Guessing you don't play on mobile. You must tap on the opponent, then scroll 3 times to the right. To hit the little buttons, without accidently leaving the opponent info subscreens, is a nice 30 second process (fingers bigger than the scroll button) I could do it, but it doesn't change the fact that I will get smacked with it, so I choose not to waste my time

I play on mobile. It's an annoyance that I also usually skip, but at least the info is there.

The OP rant was about the abilities being totally random and impossible to prepare for, which is clearly not the case.

Disagree with that. I know the 3 people I am fighting before I pick my team, boosts, teamups. I never know what teamup I am facing, so it is random and impossible to prepare for - I can only react to it during the game.

This is half true. I suppose this is more of a problem for competitive people. You plan ahead forgetting about AI TU and then it ruins your plans somehow setting you back several moves or even costing you your team mates. I think it's ok though. I need to check what AI has as a TU but sometimes I forget to do that.
  • You don't plan for TUs even back when the computer constantly loaded 3 Supernovas/World Ruptures because all you can prepare for is how to get bend over in a less painful way. This is pretty much the boost situation reversed as the computer can and does use TU in every possible match while a human player cannot and sure TUs are weak but if you got an advantage you can use every match it'll still help you, and it's more significant in an event like Balance of Power where TUs are generally pretty strong, though it's certainly not unheard of to get ruined by a lucky TU in any other event.

You see exactly the TU they get at the start of the match. Letting the AI collect enough TU AP to throw off a Rage of the Panther TU is no different than letting the AI collect enough Black AP to throw out an actual Rage of the Panther. Far from a "flawlessly played" match.
  • Huh. I guess I'm all wrong. I had no idea it showed the TU because they never announced it, it doesn't say it anywhere, and it's a stupidly hidden place to put that.

Hasn't that always been the case? I don't play on mobile, but my girlfriend does and I don't ever remember that not being the case.

Though I do concede to your point of it being very obvious.
  • Jozier, you are right in your statement. Also, I have not been receiving team ups at all. So for the anniversary I almost had none in inventory. Meanwhile, the AI was blasting me with all of the best. I absolutely hate this feature. D3 didn't ask for our input on this stupid change. At the very least, we should be able to disable it for the AI if we don't have any available.
