Triggered in thought by the recent 4* Thor only Lightning Rounds (LR), this actually started out as an idea for them and then... well, maybe regular PvP and then, well… why not try whole seasons.
There have been a variety of suggestions of the time about groupings for LR’s and desires for different forms of 2.5 day PvP but given there are almost endless ways of rotating possible team combinations, why not have it based on my all-time favourite document (not really, but it helps me ponder ideas for this game) - the official Marvel Power Ratings.
The ratings rank character characteristics out of 7 (the higher the tier, the more able) and the idea is that you could theme each season (or sections of PvP) around the characteristics – intelligence, strength, speed, durability, energy projection and fighting ability.
Characters who have particularly high rankings in a particular area are featured and could maybe even be used as the basis for Heroic Tokens. Multiple character variants are included and boosted in the one event, so more people can get involved. Some characters theoretically appear more and some less, but you can fidget with this a bit, so you get a decent spread of rotating characters. And yes, Juggernaut PvP!
Let’s take a look.
Intelligence (they all need a fancy name)
The ability to think and process information.
* The “super-genius” Doctor Doom and Iron Man are the highest on 6.
* Beast, Black Panther, Doctor Octopus, Loki, Magneto and Sentry are considered “genius” and come next on 5.
* Moonstone and Spider-Man are “gifted” and come in at 4 out of 7.
* Others are at 2 and 3, so not a priority.
These 10 character are featured across the various PvP models across the season.
Strength
The ability to lift weight.
* Hulk, Juggernaut, Sentry, She-Hulk and Thor come out on the highest level of 7.
* Colossus, Iron Man and Ragnarok get a 6.
* Ares, Captain Marvel, Doctor Octopus, Loki and Ms. Marvel are next on 5 out of 7.
* Beast, Deadpool, Doctor Doom, Moonstone, Spider-Man, Venom and Wolverine get a 4.
* Remainder share a 2 or 3.
Similar to the above description Hulk, Juggernaut, Sentry, She-Hulk and Thor feature and there is a lot of leeway with other characters here.
Speed
The ability to move over land by running or flight.
* Sentry and Thor share the top spot on 7 points.
* Captain Marvel, Doctor Doom, Human Torch, Iron Man, Magneto and Ms. Marvel come in at 5 out of 7.
* The numbers drop off then, so you might need to call up the 3 out of 7 characters - Beast, Doctor Octopus, Falcon, Hulk, Invisible Woman, Loki, Moonstone, Ragnarok, She-Hulk, Spider-Man or Storm to fill in some blanks.
Repeat the concept as above.
Durability
The ability to resist or recover from bodily injury.
* 7 – Hulk and Juggernaut at the top level are considered “virtually indestructible”.
* 6 – The “superhuman” healing are Ares, Captain Marvel, Colossus, Doctor Doom, Iron Man, Invisible Woman, Loki, Ms. Marvel, Ragnarok, Sentry, She-Hulk, Thor and Venom.
* There may be enough characters already, but if you need more, you can add the 4 out of 7 “regenerative” Beast, Daken, Deadpool and Wolverine.
And so on.
Energy Projection
The ability to discharge energy.
* Doctor Doom, Iron Man, Magneto and Thor and are the top group with 6 points and as they can “discharge multiple forms of energy".
* Captain Marvel, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Loki, Ms. Marvel, Psylocke, Ragnarok, Sentry and Storm get a 5.
* If you need to extend characters you can move into Daredevil, Hood and Moonstone come in with a 4.
And so forth.
Fighting Ability
The proficiency in hand-to-hand combat.
* Ares, Daken and Wolverine on 7 are considered “masters of all forms of combat”.
* Black Widow, Captain America, Deadpool, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Psylocke and Punisher are all on 6 (masters of several forms of combat).
* Black Panther, Bullseye, Daredevil and Yelena Belova on 5 out of 7 are “masters of a single form of combat”.
Whatever I said above, again.
So… some themed groupings for 90 min, 2.5 day, other new times and/or whole season PvP.
There are a number of characters that don’t make any appearances here, so they just have to be slotted in as best they can be, or given a special grouping of their own (SHIELD's Finest / SHIELD Underground / From the Files of SHIELD) or whatever. Side note triggered by thinking about Nick Fury - if you want to do any 4* characters and given that there seems to now be a critical mass of top level players, consider having a rotating 4* PvP tournament that is focused on the audience that has enough covers and levels for 4* characters. Playing a 1/0/0 Fury against anyone is a waste of playing time and this is going to increase as 4* characters all become more playable.
I would be interested in seeing others' ideas that come from this, such as could it work for PvE (though I imagine they will have more focused storylines), a PvP or PvE battle between the mightest of each character's abilities, etc etc.

No idea but apparently he can discharge "a medium range, duration, single energy type". Maybe related to his radar and/or senses?0
