3* never needed as an essential character?

Pretty much what the subject says:

Is there any 3* character who has never been an essential character for a PvE event?

Because of self-imposed I-aint-buying-HP roster limitations, Wolveroach sold a GSBW cover and then suddenly she's needed in Venom Heroic. (Sold before Deadpool vs MPQ which foreshadowed her imminent essentialness, and of course there was no chance he'd finish high enough to get another GSBW cover (especially as he doesn't have Spider-Man either).)

He's got a Psylocke cover waiting but no room, and knows she is used (Dark Avenger Heroic earlier this month, for example), so he'd welcome any guidance as to who could be safely dumped / not recruited until enough HP for another slot is amassed.

And now I feel as if I really am channelling the Merely Magnificent Moon Roach with his multiple personality disorder.

Good Guys are more often the required characters in Heroics and other PvEs. I think Simulator is the only time they really get mixed in.

I don't think I've ever seen a PvE with Ragnarok, 3*Magneto, Hood, Doctor Doom, or Loki as the essential.

I've been playing over 300 days and I haven't seen Ragnarok, Doom, or Loki as an essential character. At the very least I don't remember. The best 3* essential a few months back was CMags, which I didn't/don't have. Through some glitch though, the PVE event allowed MNMags to be used in place of CMags on the essential nodes - WINNING! Though that was the only time that happened...

All 3 of the above were in the simulator with Devil Dino. Just buy slots, thats my advice. If you want to play this game an investment of 20.00 to buy HP for slots is well worth it.

as I recall Loki was essential in the first Simulator.

This was the days when Lightning round still gave out guaranteed cover of the featured villain in the Purchased pack.

Unfortunately, I would not sell any 3* character if you can help it. I have been the victim several times of selling a character, then needing that character. Finally, I just made the decision, if I wanted to compete on a consistent basis, I needed to keep all my 3*'s.

I think every 3* has been featured at some point but since DAs are never featured in any event where the enemies are themed DA and there are a lot of these events, that'd mean Ragnarok is least likely to be featured since he can only be featured in a neutral event like Simulator Basic or a DA event like Prodigal Sun. Generic villians, like Dr. Doom, can never be featured in the heroic themed events since the heroic roster never includes the bad guys from what I can tell.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I should have clarified the initial conditions.

Wolveroach is the "don't buy HP" account. He built up his 1*, increased his roster size, sacrificing 1* to make room, and focussed on a core 9 2*. He sacrificed 3* covers because single covers are useless compared to even a moderately built 2*. (Except for essential nodes, hence the question.) He saved up HP and now has a roster of 24, including 3* with up to 6 covers. He doesn't want to drop any more 1* or 2* because of events. But he really doesn't want to buy HP, but now it's 350 for a single roster slot.

He's wavering. Perhaps he's found the point that was in my signature for a while:

Honestly, to be 100% ftp there's no real shortcut, only patience and being extremely miserly. I have spent exactly $0.00 on the game, just time. I use all hp earned only on 1 3hr shield per pvp and roster slots.

Is he in any alliance, even a small one? Any alliance will supplement additional iso and tokens to build your roster, and if you're lucky, hp. I was in a small 5-person alliance that I started myself with iso for the first 4 seasons, I think (I have no alliance fury covers)? And still scraped together enough hp for 37-38 roster slots by the end of it.

When I realised I was getting 600 in pvp regularly and that not all top 100 alliances demand 1000 points per pvp, I found my current alliance. ♡ That got me additional covers, and even more iso/hp. It really speeds things up.

At the moment, I have 51 roster slots with all existing characters, plus enough hp to keep me in pvp ending-time shields and Moonstones from the daily anniversary discount tokens for the rest of the week. Plus open one more slot at 650hp cost. So it can be done. Just not quickly.

He needs to review his roster very critically. Which are the 2*s and 1*s he actually uses? Keep those. Make a priority list for the rest for what can be dropped and in what order. Keep as many usable 3*as you can, not just the top tier ones. You never know which ones you will get enough covers of to become viable first.

One thing is for sure. LCap is the essential for the next PVE. So make sure to grab some of him. Don't try to dump 3* that are not featured or essential. They all rotate at some point. Try to follow the next essential char and then place high enough to get a cover for the one after that.

What I did for the Spiderman essential, is to get 1 cover of him in the PVE knowing he is the next essential one. After PVE was done and got my GSBW I dumped Spidey because I don't have huge roster (30 slots) and for the moment I don't want him. So I made space for the next essential one. If you find yourself cornered for space try rotating the essential character to try and do good in PVE. But some of them you will have to make space for because then you are not progressing.

The road to find the balance is in your hands. Main suggestions are:

- Join a T100 alliance for the extra cover
- Save your HP only for slots
- Try to dump as few 3* as you can (Or none if you can help it)
- Throw away all your 1*. You will only need them in CA or BoP which do not run often. But when you do need them you can easily get one jugs cover to help you take place in that event. It's what I'm doing.
- Dump 2* such as moonstone, lcap.

Wolveroach got a yellow Fury from an anniversary token. He then:

Bought HP without even considering dumping anyone. Recruited Psylocke. Resolved to never sell a 3* or 4* cover again (unless the character's fully covered and / or already has 5 of them).

So, the reason behind the original question has became moot, and thanks to anyone who replied.
