Does anyone else do this?
I'm currently in transition(sort of) from 2*-3*, and since there are some **** covers like daredevil and when those or things i don't need come as cover rewards for pvp, unless my alliance needs them, then i will sit them out, and can win my next bracket with 400 points getting some nice covers

I'm well through the transition by now, so my answer may not apply...
My tendency was to still try to win the award even if I didn't *need* it or *want* it - because after I had won it I could still *sell* it and use the ISO for something else.0 -
I used to sit out PVEs occasionally....now it doesnt matter as its more roster strength based. For PVP, with the introduction of Seasons, the more veteran players tend not to do this anymore as they need the point totals to be competitive for the Season. Plus Alliance ranking removed some ability to sit back every so often as it hurts your alliance mates.0

I'm in a casual alliance so I'm not required to always put in the numbers. I would definitely like to sit out some pvp and will if I won't be able to reach a certain season progression reward. Unfortunately can't do it for anniversary cause I need to participate in all to try and get as much progression rewards as I can0

For me, sitting back in an event means being top 10 instead of top 5. I'm a Slytherin. It's in my nature to be ambitious even when I don't need to be.0

I pretty frequently set out events, or only play to certain Progression Rewards, assuming, of course, I don't need (or can't make use of it reasonably soon) the higher tier objectives. As you said, you seem to have a better chance of getting into **** brackets when you do, so when you do need/want something, it's easier to obtain.0

Or the 1000 for the ISO.
Oh look, T5 is in reach, that's another 5K!
...
Yeah.
Haven't sat out a PVP since seasons started.0 -
Ok, more realistically, 2* teams should be able to reach at least 600 fairly easily without actually burning any resources (other than maybe health packs)0

I see comments like this quite a lot.
Yet there seem to be plenty of us in the 2* sphere who have an awful lot of trouble hitting this wonderful 600 point mark. we all tank, as we have been told to, like good little soldiers. What is it that we are doing wrong, that we should hit 600 'fairly easily'?0 -

I have 7 maxed 2*. I will not say it is fairly easy to reach 600 even if you have all the 2* maxed. Although there is one problem. You can't reach that 600 mark so easy if you only have 2-3 2* maxed. You need more 2* in order to be able to push more points. And it is true that if you only have 2-3 2* you will run out of health packs fast and then just wait and hope you don't lose many points until you recover.
In my case though, I can and I reach 600 failry easy. In just 2-3 pushes I manage it. I do one push to usually 100-300 and then let the game be for the next 2 days. After that, I do my next push to 500-600. It depends on my luck how smoothly everything will go each game but I usually get there. MMR is a pain, but you have to lose some games. There is no better way to lower than to push to 300 the first day and let the retaliations bring you down. If you have a good defensive team (I use Ares/daken + featured) you might also get wins.
Bottom line, if you want that 600 mark to come easy you need some 2* roster depth. It just does not happen with 2-3 chars. It is not impossible, but you will work more for it. No I can go higher than 600 and I have some times. It really depends on my brackets and my luck. However, 600 secures me t100 most of the times (Not always recently) and there is no way for me to get in the t50 with EU times. You just have to make peace with some things. You just can't have everything to your side.0 -
I have 7 maxed 2* so I have plenty of depth.
And I'm sorry Okin but this sentence
"You just have to make peace with some things. You just can't have everything to your side."
Is absolutely HILARIOUS given your recent meltdowns0 -

Lol. Yeah, I understand how it gets hilarious. I deserve that.
But, to my defense, my meltdown was about the Heroic and the problems that came with it. (Don't want to re-post them here. I already have a huge topic about it).
But apart from that, PVP has never changed and I don't think it will change for many anniversaries to come. So you wont see me raging about PVP (Phew, right?). The thing is that PVP is straight forward. Nothing much to be said about it. That is why I said the thing that you quoted. Even though MMR is a pain most of the times, it is supposed to be PVP. So other players will come and take away your joy. Doesn't matter if it is big sharks or small tuna fish, you are in the pool with everyone.
The 600 mark for a 5+ char 2* roster is achievable with 2-3 pushes if you time them right. The real issue here is not reaching that 600 mark. The real issue is when that 600 mark will stop securing you T100 (Which is starting to happen already). Then we will see 2* having almost no way of progressing than just tokens.0 -

Play twice, once a little after it starts, and then a day and half before the event ends.
The first day it's hard because there's not enough available points. You might be able to get to 400-500, and get beaten down to 250-350 by the next day. With a bit of work, you can hit 600 and quit in the second day (or shield if you've got the hp). If you play with a day or less left, you'll find a few 166s have come out to play along with 3* transitioners. If you try to do it the last 1/2 day, good luck. Competition is so fierce that you'll get beat down quickly as one of the few unshielded targets with juicy points.
If you start (eg: win 1 battle the first day), it's probably also possible to get to 600 the second day.0 -
I am in an alliance, that motivates me to participate in every PvP, even in those which do not bear rewards interesting to me. But frankly, disregarding the effort my current roster doesn't allow me much to go much higher then 600-650 points in PvP - just because I am an easy target for already transitioned player. So I take it casually - climb to 600 pts, then shield for last 8 hours of the event.
And climb to 600 pts, is based on my experience casually achievable with 2* roster. All you need is combo of tank (Thor/Ares) + OBW or MStorm/MHawkeye + MnMags, or Daken + Wolvie with strategy to pile up red, then Feral claws, Adamantium slash (in this order) and Chemical reaction to finish the last man standing....0 -
I am in the middle of my 2-3* transition. I have 8 3* characters ranging in level from 100 to 125, all have 8+ covers. I have xforce (534) and devil dino (533) at 155. All but 2 2*'s are maxed (not counting bag-nasty). Roster diversity. I have found that "tanking" only works for me now than when I had 1 to 2 3* characters worthy of taking into the match. I should say pseudo-tanking. What works for me with little to no retaliations is a single push to 300 with just my 2*'s. Then wait 3 hours to half a day. Then a second push to 600 with my 2*'s. I have noticed that when I get closer to 600, I start seeing the match ups that I would not bring 2* characters into. However, any retaliation that I receive that resulted in my loss, I hit back with my biggies, which is what you're supposed to do when tanking. However, I don't use my weakest team that can possibly win in my last victory in each push. I would prefer to keep my losses to a minimum cuz you never know when that obw/ares will mess you up when you hit back - stupid ai cascades....
EDIT: forgot to answer the topic question: Roster diversity is more of a necessity now, so sitting out events can hurt you. there are usually attainable progressions or node rewards that you can get without the featured character that increase your diversity. Example: I love/hate lightning rounds. I hate them cuz pvp in an hour and a half can really suck for me, stressful even and I like the game when it is not stressful. I love them cuz I only really do 2 to 3 matches to get that first standard cover token at 50 points. sometimes you can get a good cover there.0
