MMR or bracketing change in PVP ?

This anniversary (actually Tex Mex PvP) I noticed something new to me.

Top 5 in my bracket:

1st - 2044
2nd - 2035
3rd - 1585
4th - 1444
5th - 1320

Where 600 points generally secure top100, and often Top50 were tonight not enough. I needed to grind to 658 pts in last minute to at least end up in Top100 to get the cover.

I checked with my alliance and most of us did have crazy brackets , where 2000 pts was not very unique number.

Second thing I noticed was that after hitting the usual 600 mark, I did not encountered much of 166 wall, still there were players with 94 rosters to fight with (and I did not even need to skip much to find them).

Did something change or MMR works as designed and people were just hungry for that Dino and double ISO rewards??

  • Anyone who usually gets 1100+ pushed harder to get top spots because of Dino and the SWEET double ISO rewards in the top 10.

Anyone who gets 3000 points in the 3 anniversary events gets an anniversary 10 pack. That made people who usually stop at 700-900 push for 1000.

The above combined created many more points for the usual 700 and below crowd to feed off of, so scores were raised everywhere.

    My hypothesis anyway. icon_e_smile.gif

I thought that way too, but 2000 pts is still generally very difficult to obtain if you consider that above like 1000 pts you already face opponents worth less 10 pts per fight. Unless those top guys feeded each other while shielded...

Anyway I certainly hope that this PvP was unique and such scoring will not become regular. If yes, than I am afraid that casual play for transitioning guys (2* -> 3*) will no longer secure you top 100 and therefore possibility to progress in deck building...

I hope that scores will come back down as Dino isn't directly available. The thing that worries me is that the reward for this mini-season is 2-10 packs for the top 5. People may still be pushing to T5 and get the extra pack. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
  • This was a weird PVP; I wouldn't look at the scoring as in any way normal. Devil Dinosaur, plus people running up their scores for the mini-season top award, means that you're going to see much higher scoring than usual.

No one would do 10 pointers after they crossed the 1k mark. I myself I was doing high 40 pointers flights all the way from 1,000 to 1900. You pick and choose your targets, normally from the X-Men alliances as they lead the way.

Oh and most people would have given their right arm to be in a bracket like that. There were 6 people fighting for top 5 in mine and poor Thorfinn696 finished 90 points behind 5th on 1841 points and I know alliance members that had it harder than I did.

Season 7 will be giving out 4* Lady Thor for top 100 alliance so scores will continue to stay high. Shield hoping is here to stay and when the prize is right scores will go through the roof. It is cheeper to shield hop and stay top 5 than buy a cover for 1250.
  • top 100 alliances isn't nearly as hard a fight as this past pvp however. But all scores are inflated when more people shield hop at the top because of the trickle-down. It's a lot easier getting to 2k if you're doing 120-150 every hop instead of 25-75

There is something going on with MMR as well. I was barely top 10 with ~1200 points while my buddy who is more casual was first in his bracket with ~700. While we didnt start at the same time, it wasnt too far apart and neither of us was last minute.

That is normal. There are easier and harder main brackets and even the odd death bracket when just a few too many veterans find themselves in the same one.

Well aware of the sharting. Its possible the disparity is due solely to the Anniversary "season" but this seemed a tad extreme.

I think it was that particular event + Season awards. Until yesterday, I had never attempted shield hopping and I had never scored north of 800 pts. With 3 hops, I made it to 1200 (and then got knocked back down to 1000 in the last 5 minutes). I won 2 more icon_deadpool.png covers than I would have otherwise. Thank you, X-men!

I hate to say it, but I might just be a shield hopping convert.
