Is "hood-style" scoring a bug?

I hate to harp on this topic, but seriously, is the current PvP scoring system here to stay? I really dislike it and I'm waiting to know if this will change before I add any more HP to my account.

Has there been any response on this topic by the devs? Are there plans to change it?

  • It has been stated by IceIX that they did not intentionally change the tournament scoring, so the 'hood-style' scoring appears to not have been deliberate.

He also stated that, though he doesn't know why it happened, it would likely require a client-side patch, which won't happen till after the holidays.

    Ok. That's a relief. Thanks!
  • What is Hood-style scoring?

I don't understand scoring at all sometimes. I'd appreciate the assistance. Thanks.
  • 'Hood-style' scoring is the old scoring system, before they did a revamp. Basically, you hit and pass the break even point for point gain sooner. After the revamp, the break even point was around 800 points. It's called hood-style, because the Hood round of Lightning Rounds is the only one left using it. However, 2 weeks ago or so (maybe bit longer now?), players started noticing that tournaments seemed to have reverted to the old style of scoring, where the break even point is much lower (500?).

What do you mean by "break-even" point of scoring?

I do notice that tourneys these days are harder to score progression rewards in. After retaliations everyone is pounded to 200-300, while the table leaders are 500-600.
  • When you start, the people you fight lose less points than you gain. For example, you have 100 points, your opponent has 200. You gain 30 points for the win, but they only lose say 15. After a certain point, the break even point, they lose what you gain (or possibly more, even). This results in people tending to gravitate to the break even point. It's easier for people below it to reach it, and people above it get pulled back down to it faster.
