I hope you are having a great anniversay week and all.

So, I've been diligently playing PvP (again, you think I would learn by now) and I've reached 500 - 600 points (which is not bad for me) and you see... I've got a problem.

All my opponents are far far far above where my roster is. Not just a bit, but a lot. Usually a max 3* per team, sometimes 2 and if not max, they are close. Considering I don't have anyone anywhere near level 166 at all, this kinda poses a problem. (Believe it or not, I actually want to play your game). Hey, I've even seen a few high level X-Force's - I mean, why wait to get one of my own! I mean OBW can handle almost anything, but even she has limits. I tried skipping. I just got another variation of that. I tried another node. And again and again. I found one eventually that I could almost manage, but alas, an unlucky board and "rage of the panther" was the start of the end of that short-lived experience - it happens.

Seeing as I can't be here for the last few hours, maybe luck will lead me to my first 3* for about 6 matches since you stealth nerfed your match-making and I kept getting the points beaten out of me. Did you know I've had two 101st places recently and a couple of others in the 10X's?. True! It's always a good feeling that one.

Well, that's all for now.

Yours sincerely,
me

I'm in a similar boat roster wise to you Yogi (though you have beaten me a couple of times in recent PVPs you scoundrel).

Haven't tanked as much the last couple of days, yet strangely this Panther PVP hasn't been too bad for crazy opposition. Managed to pass the 500 mark without having to pay a single ISO in skips (though like you at one point I thought I'd chance my arm against a XForce/Punisher duo both in the 120s. That went well...)

From that point on, there was a sea of 166s but I spent less than 200 ISO in order to get three sets of 2* guys that I could beat fairly quickly.

Given that I've tanked less for this one than the last handful, I'm not sure what conclusion to draw, if any.

First appearance of the 166s for me came at about 475 pts yesterday. Full blown wall at 550.

Now, MagCStorm plus the purple/blue boost can destroy anything once, including max Thor/XF. But it's a little ridiculous that I'm tapped at around 650 now.

I guess it's tanking time for me, but it would be lovely if W/L record could be removed from the MMR algorithm.

Just remember when you are boosting and beating bigger teams you MMR is going up and you will get to fight bigger teams as well.
On the other hand if you tank too much you get lesser opponents that are worth less points and you have to win more fights to place. You also open yourself up to bigger losses in retaliations. 2* land kind of sucks for PVP especially when you start scoring well.

Meh, more fights wouldn't be an issue. It'd be one thing if the 166 wall were at least the teams worth 35+. I'm getting a wall of 166s worth 22, have to spend a lot of time skipping to find a good one.

I know my MMR is currently screwed, I read enough about the various strategies, etc. I'll fix it in time for LadyThor, but it doesn't make it less annoying at present.

Clearly, the addition of these thresholds to matchmaking is an attempt by the devs to counter tanking. So, you can try tanking, but I think it will only decrease the level of your opponents before ~600 pts.

Unfortunately, whether you tank or not, 600 pts. is a hard stop for 2* and under-leveled 3* players. It's true that you could try and take on one of these teams and maybe win a match or two, but during that match 10 max teams have seen you and put you below the threshold. So what's the point unless you shield immediately?

If the devs keep this format, I hope that they space out the thresholds and make it more of a gradient, at least.

    Black Panther PvP was weird.

I was encountering max 3*/4* teams almost right from the start - now this isn't too unusual, although I can normall break 250-300 before they start. But then, at around the 500 point mark, suddenly 2* teams + loaner everywhere. Some of those teams weren't even fully levelled (I think one was 94 Ares, 60 Daken, Loaner BP)! For ~300 points this went on, then back to business as usual.

    Anyway, more of that, please.
  • I'm in that same boat and the result is I am not playing as much anymore. I have 1 toon lvl 128, rest are 94's. I dont have the toons to get up to even think about taking on 166s. So, i'm just not even trying anymore. Its really annoying because for a while I was able to score 600 rather consistently and i really felt like i was making progress, then this change happened and the wall of doom hits...and i cant be bothered. Just cant be bothered anymore and i think my time w/ MPQ is finally at an end.
  • The worst is not hitting the 600pt wall, but not shielding & getting the snot beat outta ya back to 450pt & still pulling topped out 3* worth 20 pt so you have no hope of getting back up to where you where nevermind getting a cover
