Transition from n00b 2 intermediate (leveling assistance pls
Happy upcoming New Year everyone in this supportive community!
The past weeks have been quite good for me (I have been playing for over 8 weeks now); placing well in the events (2nd-3rd tier prizes in events like The Hulk, No Holds Barred; Top 50 in Lightning Rounds). These results were built on the back of maxed out Thor and Wolverine (whereas in previous events I relied more on Classic Storm), and then a vastly improved Classic Magneto.
I wish to build on these results and break through the next threshold (top-25 or higher finishes). These thresholds aren't formalized yet, but I do believe they make sense, ceteris paribus (brackets and matchmaking wise).
If I do well enough in the Black Widow tournament, and meet my progression rewards in The Hulk tournament, I would have enough HP (currently at 1,010) to purchase a *** hero cover. This is what I need guidance on.
My strategy is, I believe, tried and true for those who have broken through and successfully built strong *** teams: farm Lightning Rounds for Diabolic Tokens. To implement this strategy, I need to ride my Classic Magneto, but should I begin to invest in supporting him?
Here are the relevant pieces of my roster:
Classic Magneto: 102; 2/3/5
Ragnarok: 41; 3/1
Black Widow Grey Suit: 15; 5/4/4
Spider-Man: 15; 2/1/1
Doctor Doom: 15; 4/2
The Punisher: 15; 1/0/1
The Hood; 15; 4/3/2
The Hulk: 15; 2/1/1
Iron Man 40: 15; 5/3/3
Iso: >40,000
I can buy ONE cover for any of the above within the next 5 days. My thinking is that it is really between a Classic Magneto blue cover, or a Ragnarok red cover. Magneto is carrying me with some capability in the LRs, but I have a very weak opening given how I only have 2 blue covers -- and I find it difficult to open with Magnetic Field as it often reduces the blue tiles that I need to keep the MT damage high enough to kill Ragnaroks in one shot. I don't know if bringing him to level 3 yields dramatic improvement. OTOH, with a 2nd red cover for Ragnarok's Thunderclap, I at least get to bring him to level 50+ which makes him fatter and I get to activate the ability more -- albeit still not as scary, and comes at the cost of Thor's Mjolnir's Might (5 red).
My support team:
Wolverine: 85; 5/3/5
Thor: 85; 5/5/3
Classic Storm: 85; 4/5/4
In the past LRs, I fielded Magneto, Ragnarok, and Wolverine. Attack Tiles plus MT = Dead Buffed Villains. In SHIELD Training, the team is Magneto, Thor, and Wolverine.
Underdeveloped ** with potential:
Black Widow Original: 6; 5/5/3
Magneto: 30; 5/5/3
Daken: 30; 5/5
I'm leaning towards more of the same: Classic Magneto, Ragnarok (which will get a second red cover), and Wolverine; while switching in Thor for Ragnarok in non-LR environments. But given my roster, what are other possibilities (I expect my Hulk to get more covers, as I'm doing his event a 2nd time)?

Well normally I'd suggest red rag, but since you already have so much invested into c. mag, I'd say go for it, and try to push into top 8. Once you get him maxed out, getting rag should be perfectly doable, just ask dumdumdugan0

Rags imo since Mags lightning rounds are easier.0

Thanks both of you.
I scored well in The Hulk submissions and got my HP total to 1,160. I'll get my *** soon enough.
What do you guys think of Spiderman? Assuming that I get 2 covers of him via the Powered Up packs I keep getting (LOL who am I kidding? They're all going to be Captain America pulls) should I start leveling him?
In any case Spidey seems to be a more natural fit with Magneto.0 -
well the thing is for me, magneto is probably better than rag in a vacuum ... but once you throw in black widow and her 3.3k damage to the entire team green, it shifts to rags. basically i get 12 red then win next turn because 12 red will turn into 19 green no problem.
that being said, your magneto is so high now, and your widow/rag so low that it would take too long to really make up the difference, so I agree you should just make your team around magneto. it's not any worse, its just a bit slower.
so for that, i would recommend spiderman, magneto, and ironman. spiderman because since it'll be a slower to win without black widows team damage, his stun will be valuable. ironman because he can provide the mid-game blue that you'll need to keep up the stuns. and also because you dont really need to even invest iso into him since his yellow does the same thing no matter what0 -

This is cool. Thanks.
However, both my Spidey and IM40 are lvl 15, and I only have 1 blue cover for Spidey. In the medium term this will be excruciatingly slow to build, and perhaps more difficult than running with a 51, 3/2 Rags. So I don't know.0 -
You need to build up your spidey and play the hell out of lighting rounds to farm for that iso. I say that as my mags is a 128 my spidey is 141 and rag is 115. Mags is the best guy for total damage but you need that heal power and quickness of Spidey/rags. especially in pvp tournaments toward the end to stay at the top.
Hope this helps0 -

Which do I level 1st? I think Rags will be easier because there's some Iso in him already... Unless I win Spideys in Powered Up packs...0 -
Rags I forgot your stats for him or spidey0
