New Characters!
I wanted to express the empty feeling that I get when a new character comes in the game. What exactly is the purpose of getting new characters? Except from the fact that we can collect them and throw them in the PVP massacre, where is the satisfaction of introducing new characters? Might as well just add them to the token drops right away with no PVE at all.
Please, when you bring in new characters, I would much appreciate it if you could sit down and come up with a decent way to introduce them. Don't just give us one character every 2 weeks. Sit down one whole month, design a decent new PVE story and in that PVE introduce the new characters. I don't care if they are progression rewards or rank rewards. Just make me feel like new content has just come in. You really think that an introduction picture will really set me in the mood of "New stuff, yay!"?
I understand that cash needs to come fast. But you make me feel like you act before you think. You just "throw" stuff in the game hoping it wont completely break.
Really, just sit down, think about it, make a new "Theme" for the game and introduce new stuff. Not just one hero but several changes. But give me that feeling that the game has changed for the better.
Just to be clear, I am not the kind of guy that is frustrated because he is not getting Otto in this PVE. I am #1 in my bracket and I am #12 in my main. I will at least get 2 covers for him with my alliance for sure. I always get the new stuff because my alliance is T50. So I am more than satisfied with the fact that I can get the rewards. I just want it to feel more... you know... "NEW STUFF"!

I have to agree with you. Last year when Hulk was introduced we had The Hunt. Thats was really cool because there was a specific PVE that was related to the new character. Now all we get is rehashed Heroics and other random events with them same dialog as the last time they were ran. Pretty stale. At least make Spiderman an available player in the event you are introducing Doc in. Minimal effort for the LT/LD/Steve/Mohawk friendly developer.0

Seems like a situation where the devs should sit down, decide which character they want to introduce next, make a 2* and 3* version (unless it's a 4* character, then maybe 3* and 4* version) and have those as the rewards of an event tailored to the character. Would be nice, involving and rewarding for all those involved I expect, especially if they did like the hulk and gave the character as one of the rewards for participation rather than a pvp reward.0

I definatly agree with the OP that a story for new characters would be very welcome.
I will also say that D3 is trying to put out new stories that now get away from the Dark Reign story line and are looking to have these new characters apart of it. We have gotten a new story with Deadpool, 2 new X-Men and Doc Oct. With these 4 characters I am hoping the Dev's have some stories planed that will help introduce new characters and bring more content.
If I remember correctly Sentry also had his own story once introduced. I can't remember if it was for his release or right after. I would also be fine with a small event for the release immideatly followed by a new story where we get to play the character.
Either way getting new stories out will be much appriciated if they can squeese them in with the 1 year aniversary comming up as well.0 -

I didn't get most of my Spider-Man covers until after his nerf and haven't bothered leveling him up because of that. When I saw Doc Ock was going to have a heroic event my first thought was I was going to have a reason to level him up. Imagine my disappointment when he wasn't a playable character.
The idea of introducing a 2* & 3* of a new character is interesting. Maybe top 150 get the 3* and 151 - 250 get the 2* version. It would require nearly twice the effort to create both versions but also diversify the roster a bit.
From here, make both versions practically interchangable. Both get buffs in events but obviously 3* gets the strongest buff.
Then in PvP, both are acceptable to use. Do you play your 2* with more covers, or the lower-leveled 3* who is tougher?0 -

This doesn't make any sense from a business perspective. Here's how Demiurge's studio works. They release one new event every two months, two new characters a month. You want to half the character releases and double the number of new events, but there are two key facts that make this seem really dumb money wise.
1. The difference between releasing a new character in a new PvE event vs releasing a new character in a rehashed one isn't much. Why do you think MPQ is the way it is now? They must have looked at the numbers for Hulk and thought "huh, we did all this work for a new PvE event, and yet revenue is exactly the same as revenue for Patch in last weeks rehashed event".
2. New character releases are worth far more in revenue than new events. Why do you think we're getting 1 new event every 2 months and 1 new character every two weeks?
Doubling the new events and halving the character releases would basically halve the revenue earned from this, so it seems like a really bad idea on their end. And how did I reach the two points above? It's obvious from Demiurge's actions. If new events were actually profitable, youd see biweekly new events instead. I'm guessing that right now, releasing new stories is barely getting them any new revenue, and the only reason why they're doing it at all is because everyone would throw a fit otherwise. You can tell from the lack of new story since Sentry/DP that they're doing the bare minimum they need to not piss us off.0 -
My idea was bigger actually. I would, of course, like the introducing of new characters to be accompanied by an event and the first cover can be given as a reward (This will force people to buy the roster slot too). However, I was thinking more of a bigger theme for the whole game. Like when they introduced Deadpool! There was a whole new theme going on. You could feel the new stuff was coming and it was in your face.
Similarly they can introduce maybe more than one character at a time. Discuss of an event with a new story and include more than 1 characters. You can take longer than 2 weeks to release a character, but after a month you can have something enjoyable rather than a HC DA that makes people want to pull their eyes off when they see it.
There can also be new PVE stories that stay permanently there and have progression rewards. That way there will be a story continuation rather than just repeated Heroics that bring characters that mean nothing to the game. Heck, if I was a new player joining in today, I would have no idea that a new char is being released right now. It's just a normal day like every other day.NorthernPolarity wrote:This doesn't make any sense from a business perspective. Here's how Demiurge's studio works. I can understand they need to profit in order to keep the game going. But, if we put that in the middle of every request or idea that we throw in here, then why talk at all? They are making money who cares what I think? Well, I care! I am the one who plays the game.
Of course, there are people that will pay no matter what. The game is fun in most parts, but we can agree that some aspects of it are very frustrating. I would be hypocrite if I came here just to complain. I like the game a lot. I just find some mechanics very annoying and I really wish they could be more enjoyable. The money aspect is always there. But it should NOT be the leader of everything. Loyalty from your clients is what you aim for.
I would pay $20 a month without even thinking it for roster slots and covers, however, the game does not allow me too. I mean I just hold myself back from doing that because I see no actual joy of spending that money. I just feel like I am going to throw myself in an exponentially increasing expense that is not likely to change.0 -

Because ideas exist that both make sense financially and be fun/satisfying for the players as well. Look at the new gauntlet event: that required even less work than a full new story event, and probably made demiurge more money than creating all of the cutscenes/dialog/etc for a new story. The problem I see with a lot of suggestions here is that they make perfect sense from our perspective, but make no sense from Demiurge's perspective, which means this amounts to a "would be nice, but we probably won't have the resources to implement this ever" idea. I guess it all depends on what you want out of this post. If you just want a place for your ideas, for all the other forumgoers to go "yeah, that sounds cool!", then sure, this post is fine. I personally would like to see Demiurge add full CGI cutscenes and voiceovers for all of the story events too. If you want to present ideas that might actually be implemented into the game, then that's a different story, and it's disappointing to me at least to see a lack of these types of discussions regarding what Demiurge can actually realistically do given their financial situation, resources, and goals.0 -
There are ideas that can be implemented right away, ideas that need some work but are achievable and ideas that are impossible to implement without changing the code of the game completely.
I would love a thread, I mean REALLY LOVE it, where we can post some ideas and the devs can read them and even give some feedback. I am not saying they should go ahead and implement them, but throwing opinions back and forth would be very fruitful in communication terms. At least this way we would understand the game's structure better and stop asking for unreasonable stuff.
Ideas are ideas. Realistic or unrealistic, some will like them and some will not. Threads like this, at least for me, don't aim to get something done. After all, we are in the General Discussion forum, so we are just discussing and why not find some people that are like minded with us. I have read the forums too much before I started posting. I make sure I do not come in here and post threads like "Give me back my money!" just to annoy some people.
On the other hand, threads like this are being read by mods and in a regular basis. So it's not a bad thing to share our piece of mind. Remember "The Gauntlet" thread? It was just an idea in the General Discussion. Well, we got to have it in game not 2 weeks after the thread was open. So, our ideas don't just get thrown away. If some of them the devs will find implementable, they will go ahead and "steal" some of them. All we can do is discuss them and hope for the best0 -

And wouldnt be swell to be able to upgrade those 2* covers into lazy 3* counterpart? (or the whole character) For example for 10 Hc tokens or 100 standard tokens? That would also give veterans some use for tokens, almost worthless now.0
