Hey all,

The folks at Demiurge Studios have another cool blog post up. This time around the topic of discussion is the creation of art assets for Doctor Octopus.
There's some excellent artwork on display and an inside look at Marvel Puzzle Quest development- so head on over and enjoy.

You can find it here:

Quote:
"Three unique visual effects animations are created for each of the character powers. These layered 'moving comic-book' style effects are authored in the software package FXStudioDesigner. Character poses are combined with graphic effects and unique sounds to support the narrative of the underlying of the power."

+1 on the continuing the game dev blog.
While the art asset creation process is interesting, I think I prefer the discussions about new skills.
    Still, keep 'em coming!

I don't know about everyone else, but in the standing pose, it looks like Doc Ock is giving a "The Shining" style Jack Nicholson smile.

Gonna just put it out there. That art for A... It should have been his standard pose. Some of beginning artwork looks so much better than the final product.

Someone might want to correct the title of the blog post. The URL is fine, but on the page it has an extra 'S' in Octopus.

Pedantic note out of the way, the blog article is otherwise cool to see some of the art drafts besides the finished product.

    I love these. Thank you.

I also really enjoy reading about the thought behind each character's skill set. Dr. Octopus's skills are interesting and I'd like to hear more about it.

The art-centric post was nice, though.

Oh man, the ability animations highlighted in the final character art sheet look awesome!

But, I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the army-surplus-raincoat costume.

Man, now I reaaaally want them to implement skins so I can have classic Doc Ock. I have lots of trouble picturing him as other than a stocky, middle-aged, careless about his appearance, sour-faced villain of my childhood. This thin, smirky, slick-haired, leather-clad clown does very little for me. (This is not to say that the art is bad, I just cannot relate to it.)
  • Great stuff! The process behind Doc Oct is pretty interesting to look at. Details, Colors, How its animated... I can go on. Keep it up!
