Skipping in PvP Question

Does skipping opponents that aren't worth many points until you get one that is early in PvP cycle you through that tier of opponent toughness faster? Meaning, are there just a certain number of easy opponents available that you could end up getting to medium strength opponents sooner by skipping through all the easy ones?
Whenever I play PvP I get really easy opponents first, thanks to tanking, then at a point they move up in toughness and later do so again until I'm fighting just mostly maxed teams. I know MPR affects things, but I'm wondering what causes me to move on from one tier of opponents to the next in a particular event PvP. It can't be just MPR, because while having started to get tougher opponents in the event, in the Season PvP I can still be at base level opponents. Plus, tanking further in season PvP no longer lessens the toughness of the event PvP.
I'm wondering if opponent toughness increases at some set amount of points reached for each particular event, or if there's a set number of available opponents at each tier (and thus skipping easy ones would be bad even if for only a few points,) or if it's based on something else entirely.
If anyone has any insight into this they'd care to share I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

There are a couple of invisible switches that are triggered seemingly regardless of your MMR. At 500 points, 1* opponents disappear. At 700 points, 2* opponents disappear. Between 700 and 850 points, I hit what I call Point Purgatory, where my opponents are overwhelmingly worth less than 25 points (often less than 22 points), and I have to hit those low-value opponents until the mid-800s, at which point I start seeing 1100+ scores.

Of course, when I'm at 1100+, I regularly get sniped by people with less than 600 points (ahem, Slarow -.- ), even though I rarely see such juicy targets even when I delay my climbing, so YMMV depending on climb timing, MMR, etc.

What about when I was ranked high in a PVP and skipping just cycled through the same two opponents perpetually, that doesn't seem like a fair cost for iso.

Man, I just returned from a 3-PVP-long trip to MMR Hell, and let me tell you, there "point purgatory" starts from the moment you defeat the third seed team.
  • It depends on where your placement is, relative to the rest of the field, and when. If you played like a mad demon and zoomed to the top of your bracket the first day, the AI will have a tough time finding the "right" opponents to match up with you. So you might end up hitting MMR hell earlier than otherwise.

I personally start playing w/ a 2* roster on the first day, climb slowly, get hit a bit, and then switch to a 3* roster on the third day. Helps me tons in avoiding MMR Hell. icon_cool.gif
