Alliance Tournament

I do not know if this should be here on in the suggestion forum. But I just wanted to share this idea and see if anyone else is interested in it. I did not put it in suggestions because I will not provide a lot of specifics. It is just a general idea to start with.

I was thinking of having something like an Alliance VS Alliance arena. An event where all alliances can enter (Maybe with a fee) and compete with each other.
- Alliances will battle directly with each other in order to take the players down. Example would be: I attack one player of the other alliance and take him down. He has the chance to retaliate. Whoever has the best time (Or maybe some other stat as a metric) is the winner. The defeated one is eliminated from the list and cannot participate anymore. That leaves one Alliance with -1 players.
- The battle continues and alliances take each other down to progress to the next one. The alliance that wins and goes on the next fight has all of its members back again.
- The tournament goes on up to the Final game which will decide the big winner of the big price. Semi finals will also give some prices but smaller ones.

Now this idea is not perfect. I am just brainstorming here. A problem that comes to my mind is that an attack should have a specific amount of time for the other person to retaliate. If he does not retaliate the attackers wins.

Now I know there will also be unfair games as 5 slot alliances cannot go against 20 slot ones. There can be some sort of bracketing or MMR here as well. So we can have several winners for the different bracketed alliances that are somehow equal to each other.

I think this would add lots of excitement in the game and will also create some direct rivalry (Not the bad kind) against alliances. Strategies and other stuff will rise up and alliances will become a bit more solid.

The most important thing is that no matter how many times you run this event, no one will be bored, because fighting each other is never the same. Alliances change and people learn from their mistake and will want to take revenge on the next round.

  • As attack > defense, this wouldn't work. First alliance to sentry bomb the other alliance wins.
    You'd need some change in mechanics to make this work.

    I took this into consideration. The attacked player has a chance to retaliate. Then there should be a metric (Time of fight, Damage done etc.) that will decide who is the winner from the two fights. It would be not fair at all to decide the winner in one fight. Clearly then it would be first attacker wins.

    I have to say I have limited interest in an event that looks specifically tailored to give the X-men(#) Alliances even more rewards.

    Unless you bracket the hell out of it. Use Season standings to push top alliances together. Then, of course, there would be collusion.

    Alliances already compete against one another indirectly. I would think a more direct confrontation that offered substantial rewards would just breed more contention. That is just the nature of the beast.

    An alliance PVP would need to be something like Clash of Clans war. You get matched up with an alliance with a similar MMR and each person in the alliance gets 2 attacks against the other alliance. You can set a defensive team ahead of time so you know who will defend. The winning alliance will be the alliance with the most victories.
    The problem with a PVP like this is 1) this would be a big programing project for the Dev's to do and a major strain on the current servers. 2) the game is set up for the player to win so in an event like this so if you are matched with similar MMRs you will get a lot of ties. In strategy games like Clash of Clans it is a lot harder to completely destroy someones base compared to winning a match 3 battle in MPQ.

    I definatly think doing something more with the alliances would be very good. I think smaller alliances are getting left behind by 20 person alliances and that is something I think the Dev's should look into. You do have to earn alliance rewards, but alliance rewards are very pay to win as the commander who has a 20 person alliance usually paid $$ for the alliance while the 5-15 person alliance is usually F2P and is trying to add slots while they can.
    Sorry for going off topic but I think it sucks that it costs soo much for a 20 person alliance and if you don't have someone who can fork over the cash you basicly can't get top 100 alliance rewards.
  • as mentioned in a different post, I want to see mass raid events with alliance versus AI (boss) with loads of hp and everyone takes turn attacking him until he dies. And depending on how many times you defeat him would rank against another alliance teams for top tier rewards and also individual achievement rewards for taking the boss down in a certain amount of time, last kill, most damaged dealt and best cascading/combo ratio etc.

    I play TFL and they have it, Brave frontier will soon have one as well. Why cant MPQ do it too
